All businesses have access to a wide range of opportunities in the Building Our Skills supporter’s toolkit and
we hope that company champions will share the toolkit with other departments throughout their business.
At the same time Champions should look to share the same information with their customers and suppliers so
that they too can benefit from the opportunities in the toolkit and help to spread news about the campaign to
attract new entrants and career changers to the Fenestration Industry.
THE ROLE OF A BUILDING OUR SKILLS CHAMPION
Ideally, a Building Our Skills Champion will be employed by a Building Our Skills Industry Supporter and have a role in Sales, Marketing,
HR or Customer Services within the company. They should have a level of authority or presence within the company to enable them to
influence the business, its customers and suppliers.
THE PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The purpose of the role of a Building Our Skills Champion is to:
• Communicate with staff, customers and suppliers the products, services and
opportunities available to them through the Building Our Skills campaign.
• Promote news and information to engage with and encourage young people and
career changers to think about joining the Fenestration Industry.
• Engage with local schools and colleges to try to introduce the Fenestration
Industry to them. This could be done by getting involved with the Building Our
Skills ‘Inspiring the Future’ or ‘Inspiring Governance’ Campaigns.
• To work with staff, customers and suppliers to champion the ‘Challenging
Stereotypes’ campaign being promoted by Building Our Skills to get employers in
the industry to encourage and embrace a more diverse workforce by challenging
typical stereotypes of what jobs are open to which gender or age groups.
• Support upskilling in their own business by gaining an understanding of the types
of training and development needed within their organisation and to access their
requirements by working with Building Our Skills to help create a better qualified
workforce for the future.

• Building Our Skills will provide initial training on their
appointment and will provide on-going support so that they
are always fully familiar with everything available for them to
use.
• They will have access to all new partnerships developed by
Building Our Skills and will have the opportunity to meet and
network with other Champions at various times throughout the
year to sharer best practice, news and information.
• Champions will also be asked for their feedback and to share
their opinions on how the campaign is being driven and how it
can be improved.
SUPPORT FOR BUILDING OUR SKILLS CHAMPIONS
• Champions will have full access to the entire Building Our
Skills supporter’s toolkit, marketing materials, and will be
the first to receive all NewsDesk up-dates about new and
current news relating to the Education sector, Apprentices,
Training, Funding and Development.
• Champions will have access to free of charge training
opportunities from Building Our Skills to help them with their
own professional and personal development.
• There will be opportunities for PR and promotion through trade
press, social media and other marketing channels to support
their involvement.
