About German• The German language family includes:

• Dutch, Flemish, Afrikaans and English

• “High German” became the standard in the 16th century (Martin Luther’s Bible translation)

• Spoken as an official language in four countries (100 million people)

• It has official status in 3 other countries and regional status in 8. It is also spoken in several American communities.
