EQUIVALENCE TO THE GERMAN ABITUR!
GERMAN LANGUAGE DIPLOMA (DEUTSCHES SPRACHDIPLOM)
In accordance with the IB programme, the German International School Beirut also offers a second IB Diplo-ma, which is equivalent to the German Abitur: the German-Mixed International Baccalaureate, also known as GIB, with German as a response language in Biology and History and the German Language and Literature course. Students with German speaking background have the opportunity to complete a secondary school program that provides them with the competencies to feel comfortable and at home in the German language and to study at German-speaking universities. This curriculum is based on a cultural cooperation between Germany and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) with its founding office in Geneva, Switzerland, and its regional office in The Hague,Netherlands. The German side is represented by the Central Agency for Schools Abroad located at the Federal Office of Administration in Cologne, in cooperation with the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) and the German Embassy in Lebanon.
Through a constant and progressive school development, we are able to offer our German and foreign students the German language diploma (Deutsches Sprachdiplom), a diploma that is recognized as a language certificate for access to German speaking universities. The language diploma examinations are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Students who successfully pass the DSD I/DSD II (Deutsche Sprachdiplom) examinations, which are developed by the Central Office For German Schools abroad (ZFA) in Cologne, will be able to communicate effectively in the German language. Students sit for the DSD I examinations in Grade 10 and for the DSD II examinations in Grade 12.
