Logical Argumentation


Intro Questions:

• What is an “argument”?

• What is a “position”?

• What is a “point”?

• What is “support”?

• How do you make a “strong argument”?

• Introduction:

• Conclusion:


Impromptu “how-to”

• Identify 3 answers/examples/etc.

• Identify at least one theme:

• Usually comes from: Why is this important?

• Outline answer in logical order

• Think of connections


3 Parts of Answer

• Introduction

• Support

• Conclusion


Introduction

• Restate the question and a answer with a clear statement that you can support later.

• Inform how you will support your answer:

• “I will use three examples to support this point...”


Support

• Explain and support your first point.

• Remember to introduce and conclude:

• “my first example of this is (point 1),.... and as you can see from this example (connect to theme).

• “my second point is... and you can also see how this supports...”


Conclusion

• Close by simply restating your answer and the three reasons simply stated for why you believe what you believe.

• So, in conclusion, the reason for (your answer) is supported by three points: (1, 2, 3). Thank you.
