MINES ParisTech (Ecole des Mines de Paris) was founded in 1783, when mining was the high tech industry and raised major issues, like worker’s security, economic planning, and even geopolitics (access to scarce or strategic raw materials). Since the 19th century, the institution has evolved with the development of the industry and today, MINES ParisTech develops and teaches all the engineering techniques, as well as economic and social sciences.
The Geosciences and Geoengineering Department
heads all research and teaching activities in the field of earth sciences at MINES ParisTech. Its activities include exploitation of mineral or energetic resources, underground storage of waste or carbon dioxide, water resources and polluted areas and finally natural and post-mining hazards.
