TAMPA – ST. PETERSBURG, FL DMA

The Tampa-St. Petersburg Designated

Market Area hosts a population of

4,526,463 over 11 counties in the state of

Florida. White Non-Hispanics make up the

majority of the total population (68%),

however this segment has remained

relatively unchanged from 2000 to 2014.

Hispanics witnessed a growth rate of 127%

during the same period and account for 18%

of the total population.

Hispanics in the DMA are highly acculturated

as 75% rank in the HA1, HA2 and HA3

Hispanicity™ categories. In total, three-

quarters of the Hispanic population within

the DMA is of Mexican, Puerto Rican or

Cuban descent. Large Mexican communities

can be found throughout Hillsborough,

Pinellas, Polk and Manatee County largely

due to employment opportunities in

construction, agriculture, manufacturing and

transportation.

Residents of the Tampa area stand to gain a

lot if the United States’ relations with Cuba

continue to ease up. Hillsborough County’s

Schultz Ferry Park has been selected as the

future location of a ferry terminal since it has

the least environmental impacts of all the

sites considered for its development.

Residents of the Tampa/Hillsborough County

area have struggled with a public

transportation system that has failed to meet

the transportation needs of a rapidly growing

population, and ferries represent a potential

increase in revenue from tourism, less

congested roads and reliable mobility.

Members of the Hillsborough Commission

plan to offer ferry service from Schultz Ferry

Park by 2018.

Three of 2015’s Fortune 500 companies are

based in the Tampa Bay market ― they are

Tech Data, Jabil and Wellcare Health Plans.

In addition, the “Tampa Bay Times” is

Florida’s largest newspaper ― it reaches 1.4

million adults every week!
