He served as General in the Mexican War.

He spent July 4, 1850 at a ceremony at the Washington Monument he got sick from the heat and died five days later, the second president to die in office.

Abraham Lincoln gave the eulogy at his funeral.

He was a general in Civil War.

He was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives in 1868, but he was later acquitted by the Senate by one vote.
