• Examples of all the local rock units are at the back of the lab to help you identify the rocks you saw in the “field”.

• Plot each point on the map provided (each square is 100 x 100 m).

• Answer the questions.

general area in which it occurs (each column on the legend refers to distinct area of NS). Find the specific locality on the map.

• c, i) Identify the plant fossils common in the Horton Group of NS given at the back (use the separate Plant Fossil handout).

• c, ii) Identify which group of marine fossils occurs in each of the Windsor group samples.

• Note that the sequence of rock units is not the same.

• This tells us about the age of the faulting that brought these two parts of the Province together.
