Geography Final- The Heritage Project Due ____________________ This is a 300-point project grade. Your assignment is to create a project that shows your heritage. This is an in & out-of-class assignment. Students will have 3 days to work on this in class and will receive 100 points total for their work those days. Any work not completed during research/workdays will be homework. This assignment also requires out-of-class work , such as the family interviews and family tree. This assignment is a long- term project and is due May _____. If a student is absent, the completed assignment is due the day they return to school. No additional time will be given to complete the assignment. Oral, in-class, presentations will be from May _____ to May _____. The first part of the assignment is to interview family member(s) and complete a family tree. This is necessary in order to be able to move on to the next part of the assignment. Family interviews and the completed family tree should be completed by May ______. You will then research your ancestry to determine the artifacts, history, foods, and journeys that have made you into who you are today! After completing your interviews and research, you will create a final product to showcase what you’ve learned. You will organize your final product in a folder (three-tab paper folder). Students will be graded on all parts of the project & presentation. The final product should be typed or very neatly handwritten. See the attached rubric. Note: Sometimes, researching your own family might be impossible for a variety of reasons. In this case, you may interview someone significant in your life. Or, you may broaden your research to an entire cultural group with whom you align yourself. If you have any questions about this, please talk to your teacher. Coat of Arms/Family Crest Illustrate your coat of arm or family crest. If you already have a family crest, you can create your own version of the crest on one of the crest templates. Your crest must be colored. If you do not have a family crest, you will create one. You can Google your last name and crest (example: Smith Family Crest). Find one you like and recreate it, or combine elements from several crests to create a new one. Your family crest should be cut out and glued or taped to the front of your folder. Your crest must be hand drawn, NO printed crests. Country of Origin Learn about your ancestors’ country of origin. You will research the language, economy, religions, government, etc. for the country where your ancestors originated. Complete the attached worksheet. Interviews Interviews with people will be a great source of information for this project. You might interview family members like parents and grandparents. You also might interview someone who lived in the same country as your ancestor. Consider anyone who might have insight into your ancestors’ lives. You should handwrite your interviewees’ answers during the interview. An interview worksheet is attached in this packet. You may also ask any additional questions you feel will help you with the project.
