CANDIDATE INSTRUCTIONS You MUST make sure that your responses to the questions in this examination paper will show your achievement in the criteria being assessed. ANSWER EACH QUESTION IN A SEPARATE ANSWER BOOKLET. It is strongly recommended that you note the time allocations given for each question. This paper is divided into FOUR sections. You must answer FIVE questions in total. Answer ALL questions in Sections A and B. Choose ONE question from Section C and ONE question from Section D. Use the planning grid to ensure that you answer from TWO different options in Sections C and D. Planning Grid:

SECTION A
Answer ALL questions from this section. You MUST refer to and use the accompanying Information Sheet when answering both questions. The World Population Data Sheet may assist you with your answers. Use a separate answer booklet for EACH QUESTION. It is recommended that you spend approximately 1 hour on this section. This section assesses Criteria 6, 9 and 10. Question 1 (30 minutes) This question assesses Criteria 6 and 10. Refer to the Information Sheet. (a) Table 1 in the Information Sheet gives data for Gross National Income PPP (GNI PPP) and Total
Fertility Rate (TFR) and employment data by sector for both Less Developed Countries (LDCs) and More Developed Country (MDCs).
Identify and account for the relationships in the data for both LDCs and MDCS. (b) Figure 1 in the Information Sheet shows World Population Density. (i) Referring to the map, explain the concept of population density. (ii) Why do some particular areas of the world have clusters of cities with populations over
one million?

Section A (continued) Question 2 (30 minutes) This question assesses Criterion 9. Refer to the Population Pyramids – Figure 2 in the Information Sheet. Country A and Country B are experiencing demographic challenges. Select one of these countries and, referring to data from the population pyramid: (a) Briefly describe one demographic challenge facing the country’s government. (b) Outline policies the government could introduce to respond to this challenge. You may refer to
case studies you are familiar with. (c) Comment on the likely success of these policies.

OPTION B – THE ATMOSPHERE Question 5 Choose ONE of the following: either enhanced greenhouse effect or El Niño/La Niña or ozone depletion or acid rain.
