Great Barrier Reef

What is the Barrier Reef?A Reef is an underwater wall formed by

rock, sand, or coral. The Barrier Reef is located in Australia, it is

the largest reef in the world.

The Barrier Reef is a Popular Place for Tourists.

People get to the Reef on seaplane, boats, and by helicopter. People go scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, boating, and swimming. Many kinds of coral and sea animals live among the coral.

A scuba diver reaches out to tropical fish in the Barrier Reef.

Brazilian Rainforest

Where is the Brazilian rainforest located?

The Brazilian rainforest is in South America in Brazil in the southern

hemisphere.

Ant birds, army ants, fruit bats, hummingbirds and frogs all live in the rainforest.

The Brazilian rainforest gets 6.5 feet of rain a year.

In a rainforest it is warm and rainy and there a lot of trees and plants.

the Andes Mountains?Some people that live at high elevations have darker skin,larger lungs ,a quart more blood

in their bodies and many more red blood cells.

People in this region also have to use Yaks to pull plows.

Where are the Andes located?The Andes are located in South America and the mountain range goes through many countries.

Mt. EverestDo you know how tall Mount

Everest is?It is 29,035 feet (or 8,850 meters) tall. It

is the tallest mountain in the world! Mount Everest is located in The Great

Himalayan Mountain Range in the country of Nepal. Clouds cover the top

of Mt.Everest.

Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay (picture at right) climbed to the summit of Mt.Everest in May of 1953. Climbing attempts began in the early 1920’s. Climbers pay Sherpas a lot of money so the Sherpas will carry the climbers gear. Today climbers take many risks to climb to the top of Everest.

The Giant’s Causeway is in Ireland.There is a folktale about the stones. Long ago, a giant put them down so he could use them as stepping stones in the Atlantic Ocean when he fought with a Scottish giant.

The Giant’s Causeway was really formed when lava flowed and cooled very fast.

Actually there is, it’s called “Choctaw” which means “Father Of All Water”. It is also called “ Old Man River”.Is the Mississippi River used for transportation?The Mississippi River carries soy beans, corn, and wheat. The goods get transported by ships, and barges pulled by tug boats. How long is the Mississippi River? The Mississippi River is 3779 km ( 2348 mi ) long and is the second-longest in the in the United States. The Missouri is the longest.

What are the pointy things coming out of the ceiling and floor? They are called stalactites and stalagmites.

What are caves? Caves are large hollow holes in the ground. When you go into a cave someone will take you on a tour because if people went into the cave by them selves they might damage it.

stained the top of the volcano.Small eruptions went on into late April,

stopped, then started again on May 18th.

Mt. St. Helens impacts peoples lives because it impacts weather. Sometimes after a volcano erupts it will make dark days, severe winds, mud, ash, and rain showers.

A Fabulous Rock…Uluru is a popular tourist spot. Uluru is sandstone. Uluru is two miles wide and is 1,000 feet above the earth. Uluru was previously known as Ayers rock.

started going to Bar Harbor in the 1870’s.

Everglades are?

Some people want to drain the Everglades

and develop the wetlands into houses, shopping centers and

build buildings.

The Everglades are in Florida which is in the USA. It is a wetland. A slow moving river full of saw-grass empties into the Gulf of Mexico and the Florida Bay.

Many animals live in the Everglades.There is fresh and salt water, and food so it is a good habitat.

About 200 of Florida's Seminole Indians live in the Everglades.
