About Barthauer Software GmbH:

Professional infrainformatics-solutions.Leading Software to design, operate and manage water, sewer, natural gas and cable infrastructure networks.

For over 25 years the medium-sized company Barthauer Software GmbH is a market leader in German-speaking Europe. More than 1,000 customers are using BARTHAUER software for their everyday businesses. With his unique „multi-platform concept“ provides BARTHAUER a uniform user interface for integration in GIS / CAD systems from the world‘s leading manufacturers such as Autodesk, ESRI, Intergraph or Bentley.

GeoDS – Geoobjects Design Studio

With GeoDS, the Geoobjects Design Studio, BARTHAUER is bringing a novel solution pack-age to market for the efficient implementation of individual information systems and GIS modules. Great emphasis was placed on integrating the BARTHAUER multi-platform concept, which is unique in the world, during the development of GeoDS. This ensures that the objects and mod-ules created with GeoDS are universally usable with all conventional NIS, GIS and CAD systems regardless of the platform.

BARTHAUER multi-platform conceptOnce GeoDS applications have been created, that means they can be used in numerous dif-ferent combinations of database management

systems and GIS/CAD platforms (including Arc-GIS, AutoCADMap, Geomedia and Microstation). This feature clearly sets GeoDS apart from other products on the market, allowing users to optimise costs while maximising flexibility with the freedom to choose a suitable NIS, GIS or CAD system to solve their tasks.

Versatile use of GeoDSGeoDS is versatile in application. For example, GeoDS can be used for the development of municipal cadastres, such as road, water or small sewage treatment plants. Other possible fields of application include the development of cadastres and mainte-nance plans for green spaces, mobile

Model and manage any geoobject easily with GeoDS – the Geoobjects Design Studio.

Illustration: The five stages of the GeoDS design process

Structure designerThe design process begins with the creation of the database structure. Enabling the straightforward and intuitive implementation of real world models in spatial geodata management without any know-ledge of SQL, the Structure Designer forms the foundation. The object model is defined includ-ing all relations between the various objects. All units of measure, reference lists, validity rules and other process logic fundamentals are centrally established. Based on this information, the Struc-ture Designer automatically creates all required

database structures for data management in the database management system (ORACLE, MS SQLServer or PostgreSQL).

radio towers, wastepaper bins, photovoltaic and solar-thermal plants, street lighting, street inlets, automobile charging stations and wind power plants. Whether the underlying cadastral maps come from the landscape sector or building man-agement does not play a role here. This means that GeoDS also supports the possibility of cre-ating facility management solutions. Even exten-sive management systems such as pavement management systems (PMS) or pipeline integrity management systems (PIMS) can be created with GeoDS. Integration of planned or recurring workflowsThe new generation of GIS modules created with GeoDS features the integration of planned and

recurring workflows, even in existing GIS and IT landscapes. Properties required for administrative processes and operating tasks can be assigned to the geoobjects as soon as they are created. For one thing, selecting suitable predefined workflows from the areas of operation and maintenance, asset valuation, cost estimating and profitability analysis does not pose a problem. For another, entirely new workflows can be defined as well. Another special feature is the implementation of standard interfaces for data migration and the smooth exchange of data with existing data sources. The dynamic, platform-independent modeling of the data model of GeoDS is future proof and allows sub-sequent extensions with ease.

User interface designerSubsequently the Form Designer makes it easy to create an alphanumeric data entry interface. Functional applications for both – data input and data management – can be designed with a few clicks of the mouse. The pick lists and object re-lationships established in the structure are auto-matically taken into account. Next to navigation trees and menus, context-specific synchronised calls for hierarchically nested data structures are automatically defined.

A version for use with a web application or on mo-bile devices can also be created at the push of a button in addition to the classic version of the data entry interface for desktop applications.

Query designerThe Query Designer prepares table views that are made presentable with the Report Designer. Straightforward data processing tasks can be automated without programming using the DML module. Comprehensive data filters which can be combined help maintain an overview of the geoo-bjects that have been created.

Graphic designerThe Graphic Designer is used to establish what theme maps and which planning and analysis tools can be used and what they should look like.

This means they are useable in all applications supported by the multi-platform concept. A sepa-rate graphics platform is not even required for sim-ple applications because the “Network Navigator”, an interactive graphics application, is integrated directly in the form application.

Interfaces & integrationFinally the interfaces that can be used for the module are selected, followed by integration into the existing systems. A freely definable ASCII/SHP interface as well as SHP and DXF export are available for data exchange.

Multi-platform investment safetyThe worldwide unique BARTHAUER multi-platform concept enables usage of all of its products or ap-plications created with GeoDS with various graph-ical user interfaces and data base management systems - even with parallel usage within the same project! This allows you to keep your independ-ence and free choice of CAD, GIS, Web Map Server and DBMS. Moreover this increases your flexibility and ensures that you can always use the most appropriate programs for your tasks. Among other things this can result in significantly reduced training and investment expenses because users can continue to work with their existing and familiar programs.

GeoDS optimises process chains, expands the range of applications for GIS and CAD systems with previously unheard-of possibilities and

provides room for the universal and creative gen-eration of any desired geoobjects. Thanks to the consistent use of BARTHAUER technologies, nu-merous mature tools in the product range of the advanced Network Management System BaSYS are also available for GeoDS applications – for example for operational management, cost esti-mating or asset accounting.
