Publications are configurable processes for making data available from a GeODin database in a different compilation or structure, for use by other software. Publications are based on SQL commands in the current database (similar to a SQL scripts). There are a number of customized publication elements available for specialized data availability requirements.
Publication definitions are saved in configuration files (.GPC) in the CONFIG folder of the GeODin installation. The methods <New publication>, <Delete publication> and <Edit publication> are available when the ‘Publications’ node is selected under the System tab. Depending upon the specified requirements this publication is available for the user at different objects in the GeODin Object Manager (e.g. databases, projects etc.). The method will be shown if all the conditions are met for a selected object.
The actual running of the SQL commands or special functions are defined by a collection of publication elements; at least one element must be defined for each publication.
Edit publication
Here you can define the display properties for the „Publish and export ‟ method.
This includes the method name and an explanatory text. By clicking on the button at the end of the name entry field you are shown possible translations for the name. The explanatory text can also be entered in several translations. Which translation is shown depends on the current GeODin user interface language. A method symbol can also be defined (in PNG format, with dimensions 48 x 48 pixel).
Publication methods
Requirements
Use the method “Publish and export” to define the requirements for the publication display.
First define at which object the publication method should be available. Multiple selections are possible, though the user will expect object related publishing. Hence if for example a SQL command is carried out which creates a new table based on a GeODin table and has no project or object restriction, placing a publication at a single object may be confusing!
In addition to the object definition, further conditions can be set that affect the visibility of the publication. This can be used when the publication will not work with all GeODin databases, because it has been developed for a particular object type. This avoids having the method visible when no meaningful results can be generated or prevents error messages that the user may not understand.
The possible conditions are described in chapter Requirements for system.
SQL command
The publication element "SQL command" runs are user definable SQL command in the GeODin database. You can name this publication element and add an explanatory text.
If the option is [activated] it will run during the publication process. In a long series of SQL commands you can temporarily de-activate commands, without removing them from the publication.
Choose the option [ignore errors] to ignore possible run-time errory when using the command in the database. If this is not chosen then the publication process will stop.
The actual details are entered in the SQL command node. Often one SQL command can be used in different database types - choose the „all databases“ database type option for this. If you need special SQL syntax add another SQL command node and select the database type. GeODin then uses the appropriate SQL command for the current database type.
If your SQL command contains table names or views, add all these in the “Tables“ node. GeODin automatically adds the owner in the SQL command string if necessary.

Availability in GeODin Object Manager
SQL Command name and hint text
Macros can be used in the SQL command, in the “Tables” node and the name of the publication element. These are then filled (replaced) with current information from the selected object in the GeODin Object Manager in the publication (e.g. a project name). The following macros are supported:
$PRJID$ - This macro is replaced by the current project ID
$LOCID$ - This macro is replaced by the current object ID
$INVID$ - This macro is replaced by the current measurement point ID
Export ground descriptions
The publication element “Export layer descriptions” extracts layer information for the object type location in a new table GEODIN_EXP_G1GROUND in the current database.
The data collection standard can be defined for this export.
Unpack data sequences
The publication element “Unzip data sequence“ extracts compressed data sequence files to a table containing raw data (individual files). Note: this may produce large amounts of data and take a considerable amount of time!
Close database
The publication element “Close database” closes the current database. This may be necessary to restructure GeODin tables for a publication. You need to re-open the database in such cases so that GeODin recognises the changed structures.
This element should always be used as the last element of a publication. Once the database has been closed, the user may have to manually re-open the database.
