HVG Today
HVG: We deliver the natural product hops from Germany.
Cooperative and EU recognized producers’ group.
In the Bavarian town of Wolnzach—at the heart of the Hallertau hop-growing region—iswhere HVG Hopfenverwertungsgenossenschaft e.G. has its head office. The marketingassociation was founded in 1953 in the Hallertau region, and the growers from the Tettnangand Elbe-Saale regions have been members since 2001. This led to the world’s largestconsolidation of hop growers within a cooperative. HVG pools the activities of the HopGrowers Associations of Hallertau e.V. (PGI Hallertau Hops), Elbe-Saale e.V. (PGI Elbe-SaaleHops), Tettnang e.V. (PGI Tettnang Hops), and the HVG Spalt (PDO Spalt Hops). They havejoined forces, representing hops from German growing regions, to establish an informationand sales promotion program for the European protected designations PDO and PGI. The goalis to provide information about the meaning of the Community regulations and the high valueof the EU-protected Community products. HVG guarantees the international brewing industrythe reliability of supply for German hops of the highest quality and diversity. The oldestmarketing cooperative for hop growing has become a global player within a few decades.Today, breweries from more than 100 countries on all continents purchase German hopsdirectly from the grower through HVG—with excellent natural quality and processing methodsas well as at fair conditions.

Traceability transparent production from cultivation to delivery
Agricultural products and foodstuffs from the European Union stand fortested quality. This is ensured by the strict requirements of the Europeanquality policy.
Many products that comply with the particularly high standards for
cultivation and production carry one of the three quality labels of theEuropean Union. Hops from Germany are one such product.
Quality assurance has a long tradition in Europe. Already in the 16th century, for
example, German hop growers wondered how they could protect their high-qualityproducts against false declarations of quality. The answer was the first German hopseal, which was introduced in the city of Spalt in the year 1538. Little by little, other important hop-growing regions also marked their products with a seal.Almost 500 years later, quality seals are still in high demand. Today, the EuropeanUnion quality labels provide more transparency.
Traceability inspires trust
The traceability of agricultural products and foodstuffs is at the core of Europeanquality assurance. It is ensured by the continuous documentation of all the stepsfrom cultivation to processing through to the delivery of goods. This transparencyinstills confidence in all those who buy this product for further processing orconsumption. Because it is possible to retrace when, where, and by whom thegoods were harvested, produced, processed, stored, transported, consumed, ordisposed of at any time.
