Communication Processes

The Five Points of Power

Operating from the I-in-NowObstacles and dynamics from Theory U

♦ Obstacles to being in the present = “I - in Now”✭Dynamics of Connection

• Horizontal connection (outer) - Yourself to the world, people and organizations

• Vertical connection (inner) - The lower self to the higher Self

This deeper level of awareness allows us to break habitual patterns and respond differently in situations. This process of cultivating heightened awareness is called “Presencing”. This transformation in response-patterns changes individual and collective consciousness.

Theory U - The Eight Principles of Presencing

1. Energy flows to attention - Where you put your focus in a system is where your energy goes.

2. Flow through the three movements of the “U” - a. going down - observe, immerse yourself in the place of most potential. b. Going through the eye of the needle - place of stillness and knowing comes to the surface. c. going up - act in an instant, iterative process - prototype - small and quick to get max feedback.

3. Go to the edges of the self - open mind, open heart, open will - put yourself in other shoes - empathize

4. Pass through “the eye of the needle” - rebirth from death - the threshold - off load all that is no essential to bring new vision.

5. Transform the three enemies - a. Voice of doubt and judgement (stops open mind) b. Voice of cynicism (stops open heart) c. Voice of fear (stops open will)

6. Start by attending to “the cracks” - The openings, challenges, disruptions, where we feel past ending and future beginning.

7. Hold the space to transform debate to dialogue - This is the transforming quality in systems, relationships.

8. Strengthen presencing to avoid absencing - Absencing is “us vs. them”, one right way, fundamentalism, this is our blind-spot. Presencing is operating from our highest future potentials
