Through Lens of Major Stakeholders: Progress of Faculty of Business, Northern University Bangladesh (NUB)

(An Evaluative Study Proposal)

Exploratory study on Governance, Education Programs, Teaching Learning, Related Aspects

The study will be an evaluative one on the performance of Faculty of Business, Northern University Bangladesh (NUB). The university was founded in November 2002. This will be the first comprehensive internal evaluation on the major aspects of governance, curriculum (contents, design and review), pedagogy, teaching resources, learning assessment, internal process control (quality assurance etc.), students selection procedure and related issues, physical facilities and structure, staff recruitment and development, student support services, research and extension services of the faculty. The study, basically an exploratory one, will list lessons learned on the important issues of governance curriculum, pedagogy, learning assessment, teaching resources, physical facilities and suggest ways forward for Faculty of Business, NUB. Five major stakeholders of NUB will be asked to give their opinion on different relevant questions on the abovementioned issues of NUB’s faculty; the five major stakeholders will be employers (the firms who employ NUB-graduates), alumni (from the earliest year of graduation to the latest year, i.e. December 2015), current students (belonging to different semesters), non-academic staff-members and academic (faculty) staff members.

Data for the Study-Sample SurveyThe study will be based on a random sample survey of respondents of 300, and the sample will be selected from the above mentioned five categories of employers, alumni, students, non-academic and academic staff-members. The respondents will be randomly selected from each of the category. For each type of the respondents, a structured (mainly qualitative) questionnaire (for primary data) will be applied. The sample distribution of the respondents will as follows:

A committee was constituted to customize the survey tools proposed in the SA Manual for program self-assessment. The proposed survey tools are thoroughly discussed, reviewed, customized and finalized by all the members of the sub-committee. The templates are essential for carrying out the self-assessment exercise in all programs of the Bangladesh’s universities. However, these are samples and very generalized. Program offering entities may customize these templates depending on their individual and specific requirements and context.
