Instructions for safe use and avoidance of danger.Keep this safety note/manufacturer's declaration for the entire utilisation time.

•Applicationisonlyallowedforslingingandliftingloads. •Itistobemadesurethatthesafeworkingloadsindicatedontheattachedtagsarenotexceeded. •Changesinthesafeworkingloadindependenceofthetemperaturetareasfollows:

Usewithintheadmissibletemperaturerangemeansnopermanentreductionofthesafe workingloadsafterreturntoroomtemperature. •Useinacidsandalkalisorapplicationinacidoralkalinevapoursisonlyadmissibleif thematerialisresistanttocorrosion. •Anyself-effectedmodifications,suchasexchangeofcomponents,thermalorgalvanictreatment, willinvalidatetheproductliabilityofKettenWälderGmbH. •Inthecaseofparticularlyendangeringconditions(liftingofpersons;causticsubstances; liquidmetals;etc.),thedegreeofendangermentistobeassessedbyacompetentperson andthesafeworkingloadistobeadjustedaccordingly. •Oncontinuousoperation,i.e.atautomatedproductionlineswithhighworkcyclesandoftenrepeated similarmovementsandwaysoftransportation,ahighdynamicstrain(=>20.000stresscycles)occur. Thereistheriskofdamageoftheproductsduetothehighdynamicstrain.Inthesecasesitisessential toreducethetensioni.e.correspondingtomechanismgroup1BmM3acc.toDINEN818-7byusinga highernominalthicknessorsize.

Priortothefirstapplication,itistobemadesurethat •thechainslingdeliveredisexactlytheonethatwasordered, •thetestcertificatehasbeenprovided, •thechainslingiscompletewithmarkingsandindicationsastothesafeworkingloadand thatthosedataareconsistentwiththetestcertificate, •allthedetailsconcerningthechainslinghavebeenincludedinthecardindex.

Prior to each use the chain has to be visually inspected to check if there is any apparent damage or sign of wear.

•Anyparticularspecificationsregardingtheloadhavetobeobserved. •Beforestartingtheliftingoperation,ithastobemadesurethattheloadisfreely movableandthatitisnotanchoredorfixed. •Themassoftheloadmustbeknown.Ifnot,itcanbetakenfromdocumentsor shallbedeterminedbycalculation. •Thelocationofthecentreofgravityshouldbedeterminedwhenchoosingthesling pointsandshouldmeetthefollowingconditions:

•Toensurethestabilityoftheloadwhenusingmulti-legchainslings,theslingangleßshouldbe>15° andshouldbewithintheindicatedrange.Itmust,however,notexceed60°(seeexampleinFig.1).

•Pulllooseunloadedchainthroughcircularopeningtodesiredlength. •Hookthechainintothepositionasshowninthephoto.

•Ensurecorrectfitwhileliftingprocess. •Neverloadshortenedloosechainstrand. •Payattentiontoloadpeaksduetoasymmetricweightdistribution. •Chainlegsmustnotbetwistedorknotted. •Whenusingamultiplelegchainslinginaverticalhitch, thehooksmustfaceoutwards.

•Chainlegsmustnotbetwistedorknotted. •Aloadshouldalwaysbeattachedtothehooksaddleandmustneverbeappliedtothetipofahook. •Hooksandsuspensionlinksmustbefreelymovableinordertopreventdeformationduetobendingstress. •Whenusingamultiplelegchainslinginaverticalhitch,thehooksmustfaceoutwards. •Whenusingthechokerhitch,thesafeworkingloadisreducedto80%. •Inordertoavoiddamagetochainsortotheloadwhenusingchokerhitches,itmaybenecessary touseintermediatelayersoredgeprotection.

•Inordertoavoidthataloadswingsinadangerousmanner,itisrecommendedtouseaholdingrope. •Donotshock-loadchainslingsorjerkloads. •Inindicatingthesafeworkingload,itisassumedthattheindividuallegsofthechainslingareloaded symmetrically.Symmetricalloadingcanbeassumedifallofthefollowingconditionsaremet: u theloadislessthan80%oftheratedsafeworkingloadand u theangleofinclinationforeachchainlegisnotlessthen15°and u theanglesofinclinationofthechainlegsdonotdeviatebymorethan15°fromeachotherand u theslingattachmentpointsfor3-and4-leggedchainslingsarelocatedinasling planeofnotmorethan15°. •Forunsymmetricalloading,theclassificationoftheliftingoperationaswellasthedetermination ofthesafeworkingloadistobeentrustedtoacompetentperson.Alternativelyinthecaseof unsymmetricalloading,thesafeworkingloadshouldbereducedto50%oftheratedvalue. •Whenusingmulti-leggedchainslings,thefollowingistobeobservedifnotallofthelegs arerequiredforlifting: u Individuallegswhicharenotbeingusedshouldbehookedbackontothemasterlink. u Insuchcases,thefollowingloadfactorsapply:

•Allinfluencingfactorsaretobetakenintoaccountwhendeterminingaslingtypeandchoosing theappropriatechainsling,withthesafeworkingloadtobegreaterthantheloadtobelifted. •Safetyduringliftingoperations: u ISO12480 -1istobeobservedintheplanningandcarryingoutofliftingoperations. u Handsandotherbodypartsaretobekeptclearwhentauteningthechainsling. u Nootherpersonsmustbeputindanger.

•Theplacewheretheloadistobeputdownshouldbepreparedandmadesufficientlyaccessible. •Thegroundmusthavesufficientload-bearingcapacity. •Itmaybenecessarytostabilisetheloadbyusingwoodenblocksorthelike. •Inordertopreventdamage,theslingchainmustnotbewedged,norpulledoutbymeansoftheliftinggear. •Storageofchainslingsthatarenotinuse: u Inordertominimisecorrosionattacksonchainslingsthathavebeenusedinacidsoralkalis orinacidoralkalinevapours,thosechainslingsshouldbecleanedthoroughlyalsobeforeremoving themfromoperationtemporarily. u Chainslingsshouldbestoredonspeciallydesignedandprovidedracks. Ifchainslingsarelyingonthefloor,thereisariskthattheymightgetdamaged. u Chainslingsremainingonthecranehookshouldbehookedbackontothemasterlink. u Ifchainslingsarenottobeusedintheforeseeablefuture,theyaretobecleanedandprotectedagainstcorrosion.

Inspectionsshouldbeperformedbyacompetentpersonatintervalsofnomorethan12months.Ifnecessary,theseintervalsshouldbeshortenedindependenceofthecircumstancesofuse. •Priortoinspection,thechainslingsaretobecleanedthoroughly. •Anycleaningmethodthatdoesnotattackthebasicmaterialisadmissible,whereasany processesorproceduresthatmaycausehydrogenembrittlement,overheatingormaterialabrasion orwhichmayhidesurfacedamagearetobeavoided. •Sufficientlightingistobeprovidedduringinspections,andallcomponentsofthechainsling are to be examined. •Bymeansofvisualinspections,thechainslingsaretobecheckedforunmistakable identification(tags)aswellasforanyvisuallynoticeabledefects.

If any of the following defects are found, the chain sling has to be removed from operation and inspected by a competent person or serviced/repaired: u Marking/identificationillegibleormissing. u Deformationofsuspensionorslingparts. u Inadmissibleelongationofchainlinks,differencesinleglengths.

u If,asaresultofwearandtear,thenominalthicknessofachainlinkis<90%(seeFigure2).

u Damage(cuts,notches,grooves,cracks,discolorationduetoheat,excessivecorrosion, bentortwistedlinks,orotherdefects). u Signsofwidening(excessivethroatopening)ordeformationofhooks. Thewideningmustnotexceed10%ofthenominalmeasure;ifhookswithsafetycatchareused, thecatchmustnotbecomedisengaged. •Inspectionsaretoberecordedandprovedinwriting.

•EachindividualpartofthechainslinghastomeettherequirementsofDIN5687, DIN5688Part1andDIN7541. •Individualchainlinksarenottobereplaced-replacecompletelegsinstead. •Anyindividualpartswhicharebroken,noticeablydeformed,seriouslycorroded,orshow depositswhichcannotberemoved,aretobediscardedorreplaced. •Minornotchesorfurrowsinpartsofchainslingsmaybeevenedoutiftheremainingmaterialthickness inthispointis>90%ofthenominalthicknessandnosuddencross-sectionalchangeisnoticeable. •Weldedchainslingsmayonlyberepairedbythemanufacturer. •Ifweldingoperationshavebeenperformedonchainslings,eachindividuallegwhichhas beenrepairedhastobetestedsubsequentlywithtwicetheSWLvalue. •Replacementofmechanicalconnectionlinksrequiresnoloadtestingiftheindividualparttestingis certified.

u CELabelforcompletelyassembledchains. u ThelabelguaranteesthatthetechnicalrequirementsoftheECguidelinehavebeenmet.

It is prohibited to assemble chains and components of different grades.

8. When performing maintenance work, the following is to be observed:
