The following guide provides detailed instructions on how to access and complete the Doing the Right Thing courses available through Skills@Columbia.

1. Access Skills@Columbia on the Learning and Development website at http://hr.columbia.edu/learn-dev/e-learning. Click the Skills@Columbia link or use the Online Learning link in blue font on right side of the screen.
2. Click Launch to log into Skills@Columbia.

Skills@Columbia website.
4. Click the Columbia Catalog of Courses folder.

6. Select appropriate Doing the Right Thing course.

7. Click the blue arrow to launch or continue the course.
NOTE: the course will open in a separate pop-up window
8. If you are accessing the Skillport using Internet Explorer 10 or 11 you may need to check compatibility settings.
9. With the Internet Explorer Browser open, go to Tools>Compatibility View Settings

10. Then you can either, add related web addresses to the list of those to be displayed in Compatibility View OR check the third (last) box at the bottom of the window:
11. You may see the following additional warning message when launching some Java apps:

Doing The Right Thing – Web Based Training General Navigation Guide If this occurs, click Allow, or the applet will be unable to communicate. Additionally, you may click the Do not show this again for this app and web site checkbox in order to suppress the message on future applet launches.
12. You may get a pop up message that says Your Java version is insecure. If you do, click Later and also check in the box below that says “Do not ask again until the next update is available”. (If you do not get this message, please proceed to step 10 in this document, which is the first screen of the online training session).
13. Another pop up message will automatically appear once you complete the above steps. Here, please click on Don’t Block.

14. Brings you to the First Screen: The first screen that appears will provide users a list of recommended technical settings to complete the Doing the Right Thing training course. If you experience any technical issues in completing this course, please contact the HR Service Center. You can log an incident or request a service by using a self-service web form, or you can contact the Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm; Wednesday 9:30 am – 5:00 pm; Friday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.

15. You have the option to turn the audio off by clicking Turn Audio Off.

16. Advance to the next screen by clicking the forward arrow. (The arrow will flash in green once the course narrator has read all text on that screen).
17. To return to a previous slide or text click the back arrow.

18. The course will provide a number of hyperlinks to Columbia University policy. These policies will open in a separate pop-up window.
19. To advance to the next screen when the next arrow is blocked by a pop-up window, close the pop-up window by clicking the close link at the bottom of the pop-up window screen then click the next arrow.

Skills@Columbia will bookmark the last screen you viewed upon exiting.
21. To access the last page you access, click Ok. To play the course from the beginning click Cancel.

progress in all course topics
NOTE: the Menu will appear in the left frame.

terms that have been defined throughout the course
NOTE: the Glossary pop-up window will appear. Click the “x” in the upper right corner to close the menu screen (see below).

24. Access Resources option at the bottom of the screen to print copies of the job aids presented throughout the course.
NOTE: a pop-up window will appear. Click the “x” to close the menu screen (see below).

25. To receive credit for completing the course, click Exit in the upper right side of the screen after you have opened and read each screen.
If you reach the last slide in the course and did NOT page through each screen, you will see the following screen below. This screen appears for learners who will need to revisit content they missed.

26. You can verify the system recognizes you have completed the course by clicking My Progress (located in the Shortcuts menu on left side of screen)
27. Click the Completed tab to view courses you have completed.

28. Change the default Date Range to ALL.
29. Click the Certificate icon to a certificate of completion for the specific course completed.

30. A separate pop-up window will appear. Click the File option in the main menu to print the certificate.
