The President Speaks
Nov. ........................ There will be no November meeting. We will have our December meeting early. Dec. 5...................... After the Santa Cruise in Stayton, OR at Laren & Betty Srb’s.
Special thanks to our supporters: Team Chevelle and ACES
Another November is upon us, seems last week it was July. Time seems to fly by and there is never enough of the time. Just today I realized I had not vacuumed out the inside of my pickup truck in a few years, yes it has been cleaned, but by a drive through car wash. I used to take pride in cleaning my own car, spending a day washing, waxing, vacuuming, pol-ishing, changing the oil and rotating the tires. Seems those days are gone. I used to wonder why people hired other peo-ple to do things for them, when it seemed so simple to do yourself, like yard maintenance or painting your own house. I now know why, not enough time in a day. I struggle with this as I now watch my shop now being built by someone else. My kids won’t be kids forever, and as many parents have told me, they grow up fast, so I am prioritizing my time with them. I have always been a do it yourself person, enjoyed taking on the big challenges and getting it done. Not always quick or completed to industry standards, but in the end it looked good to me. Kids would help, but their enthusiasm is over in about 10 minutes. Our pregnancy is coming to an end, by early December there will be a baby boy joining us. His bigger brothers are ex-cited and can’t wait to play with him. Mom is enjoying pregnancy in the last few weeks, me, I am enjoying it too. Soon our lives will change, but for the better! Feature Car 1970 Chevelle Malibu. This 1970 Chevelle only has 10,460 miles on the odometer. It includes its original tires and exhaust. Updated items include the air cleaner, spark plugs and wires. The Chevelle has been garage kept its entire life and is an east coast car. I was reluctant to acquire an east coast based car, but the photos provided showed the rust had not been a factor. And the Chevelle had been stored winters to avoid the salted roads. The story that came with the car shows a single older gentleman purchased the Chevelle new, since he lived at home he often took his mother around town and she did not like the color. So he only used the Chevelle to take out his significant other. He bought another car that his mother liked and that was what was mostly used as the Chevelle sat in the garage under cover. The mother passed away and shortly thereafter so did her son, the original owner. The Chevelle was sold in 1990 as a part of an estate sale, and it only had 9,980 miles at that time. The second owner purchased the car, showed it for awhile and away into storage for 14 years. He eventually sold it to the third owner who intended to clone it into a Su-per Sport. The third owner realized he could buy a clone already completed as the muscle car market was down, so I bought the Chevelle from him last year. The Chevelle is in excellent shape, except for some minor storage wears and tears. It is a great unaltered example of what Chevelles’ looked like as they rolled off the assembly plant. As for me, I will keep the Chevelle as original as possible. Gene Bolante

Classic Car Club Donates $5,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities®
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington (RMHC®) will receive a $5,000 check from the Chevelle and El Camino Club of Oregon (CECCO) at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds in Canby on Thursday, October 22. This past July, the club raised money through admission to its annual car show. Proceeds from the event supported the “Special Day for Special Kids” at the Clackamas County Fair in August, a free day for seriously ill children and their families who have stayed at a Ronald McDonald House®. CECCO raised enough money to underwrite the Clackamas County Fair’s “Special Day for Special Kids” and to present $5,000 to RMHC.
The $5,000 gift from CECCO will help operate Portland’s two Ronald McDonald Houses. A donation that size can underwrite one of the Charity’s 40 rooms for nearly two‐months. Donations like CECCO’s cover 85% of RMHC’s operating costs. Last year, RMHC hosted 1,550 family visits from residents of 36 counties in Oregon and Southwest Washington, as well as other states and beyond.
“We can never say thank you enough to groups like CECCO,” said Tom Soma, RMHC’s Executive Director. “Their commitment and creativity are incredible gifts, and the families they support are deeply grateful.
About RMHC
Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington provides a “home away from home for families and their seriously ill children who travel far to receive treatment at Portland area hospitals, and awards grants to non‐profit organizations that offer children’s immunizations and dental care. For more information on Portland’s Houses, visit www.rmhcoregon.org.

This is a special memo about the Chevelle and El Camino Club's Christmas Party. This year the club will be paying for a catered meal to be held at the home of Betty and Laren Srb in Stayton, Or. The date is Sat. Dec.5th at 1:00p.m. Since this is a catered affair, YOU MUST R.S.V.P. to Betty no later than Nov. 5th!!!!!!! Contact Betty by phone 503-769-6550 or by e-mail [email protected] Information that I need in your RSVP is how many will attend and of them how many are children as well as their ages so that we may properly prepare for their Christmas goodies. Other details for the day are the Santa Cruise at the Stayton Fire Hall which we will attend as a club. Breakfast starts at 8:00a.m. and is $5.00. Entry fee is an unwrapped new toy. The Club will again be supporting this event. We will again use Jan Vander-vort's El Camino to fill with toys. Our club did an awesome job last year; your generosity in the toys you gave was just wonderful. ALSO please bring non perishable food items for our charity, THE RONALD McDONALD HOUSE...bring these to the party not the Santa Cruise. Stayton has a craft fair at the middle school as well as Jensen's store down-town, which is quite charming, will be having a sale worth stopping in. At the Club's party, we usually play the stealing gift game. Price range is $25.00 and this MUST BE WRAPPED. You do not have to do this game if it's not your thing. WE MAINLY WANT TO SEE YOU COME TO THE PARTY. I am proud to be a member of this club that is so generous in it's giving. I'll look forward to your RSVP's, Betty Srb ... note..contact our activities chair, Bob Dutro for directions and info on traveling together.
