Genderless Kid Wear

Unisex kids clothes—and toys, rooms, and environments for that matter—allow kids to behave and adapt untouched by societal assumptions. I think it’s a great idea. Plus just imagine, you could have one giant wardrobe for all the kids, allowing them to mix and match creatively. And hey then they’ll even learn to share! They’ll have simple, comfortable clothes and won’t be pressured to compare themselves to their siblings. Differences will be eased. The pieces above can be mixed and matched, are comfortable, and completely free of gender orientation.

I adore this bigfoot shirt. Black is a great color. Many see it as dark but I see it as humble, simple, clean. On a boy this may look like… well a boy shirt. On a little girl, it might draw some eyes of surrounding parents but they’ll probably all be thinking nothing more than her cuddled up with her dad or big brother watching finding bigfoot on a Saturday night after a long day of learning to ride her kick ass two wheeler. Parents love tomboys, there’s nothing wrong with tomboys and black is not just a masculine color.

These outfits are really fun. Kids are kids so I’m not sure why parents dress their kids as little businessmen and divas when a juvenile look is the greatest style in the whole flipping world; especially for doing juvenile stuff in, like making a fort out of couch cushions or doing cartwheels in the living room.

I can’t get over these slouchy pants. And I love this visual because it shows how completely gender neutral the outfits are. Neither kid looks odd in what they’re wearing. Even imagine flipping their outfits and they still look totally natural. These wouldn’t even get a second glance from passersby—well maybe a second glance for “oh my goodness those outfits are so cool”, but not “does that woman seriously have her little girl dressed in baggy boys clothes? Talk about hand-me-downs”.

Paired together this would be a perfect fall outfit. Just imagine your little munchkin helping you rake leaves and then coming inside to hot soup and a catalog of unisex Halloween costumes. Precious. The trousers are adorable on. On the website it featured them on a little girl. Now I bet you took a look and subconsciously saw a little dude in them. They actually look totally feminine on a little girl, and would look just as masculine on a boy. And you can’t go wrong with the happy sun noodie. That’s the thing about all of these. You can’t go wrong with genderless clothes. Unless you get the wrong size but that’s a whole other issue.

Is this a boy or a girl? I can’t even tell isn’t that awesome! This outfit speaks for itself so let me take this space to talk about John Jolie Pitt. Their birth name is Shiloh and little Shiloh was dressed as a freaking Gucci princess until they were about 3 then all of a sudden People magazine started publishing photos of the Jolie-Pitt family where Shiloh blended right in with the boys. They were wearing cargos and t-shirts and leading their parents to the action figure section of the toy store. A lot of folks thought dear Angelina and Brad were gearing them towards this to foster their own image of a completely diverse family. Turns out that Shiloh was just a skip and a leap ahead of anything I was aware of because by the time they were seven they were asking to be referred to as “them/they” instead of “her/she” and change their name to John. What a righteous little baby. Here’s a few photos of the beautiful John over the years. (p.s. in my opinion, “Shiloh” is a totally wicked gender neutral name.)
