GeN2, the ideal solutionThe flexibility of the GeN2 system provides the ideal solutionboth for buildings with low to medium traffic (residentialbuildings) and those with heavier traffic requirements(offices and hotels). Its comprehensive duty range extendsfrom 630 kg (8 passengers) at 1.0 m/s up to 2000 kg (26passengers) at 1.6 m/s.

The REM system RemoteElevator Monitoring is the mostadvanced of its kind for ensuringlift reliability. Twenty-four hours aday, the REM system continuouslymonitors lift functions-detectingdeteriorating components, inter-mittent anomalies, and small nui-sances that might otherwise gounnoticed. It provides immediate,two-way voice communicationbetween passengers and trainedOtis personnel at the OTISLINEcentre, simultaneously deliveringgreater peace of mind.
ServiceOtis maintenance systems reflectthe philosophy that the best timeto resolve problems is before theyarise. Otis technicians pursue arigorous service programme tomeet a building's requirements.Working with the REM system's24-hour monitoring capabilities,Otis service technicians can moreeffectively locate performanceanomalies and correct thembefore they affect lift service.

Steel reinforced belts: revolutionary technology at thecoreThe GeN2 system marks theunveiling of an entirely originalhoisting technology lightweight,flexible reinforced steel belts,enveloped in a tough polyurethanejacket that improves the tractionand requires no lubrication. Eachbelt actually contains more steelwires than a conventional ropewith equivalent hoisting capability.The coated steel belts are quieter,20 per cent lighter and have a lifespan two to three times longerthan conventional ropes. Yet theirsuperior flexibility allows the beltsto bend around smaller diametersheaves resulting in more efficienttransfer of power from themachine to the car. Flat belts alsohave more surface area at thepoint of contact, which signifi-cantly reduces noise and wear onthe sheave.
The machine: compact and energy-efficientThanks to the coated steel belts,the machine takes up only 30percent of the space of a conven-tional geared machine. Its reducedinertia combined with a synchronousmotor with permanent magnets of radial construction, is as muchas 50 percent more efficient thanconventional geared machinesand 15 percent more efficientthan machines with axial construc-tion design. Reliability is enhancedby using a maintenance-free discbrake. The GeN2 system is one ofthe most efficient and thuscost-effective lifts to operate.
Controller and drive: reliable andaccurateDesigned for up to a five-cargroup, the controller uses a newgeneration of printed circuitboards and software that provideoptimal passenger responsetimes. The digital, closed-loopvariable frequency drive, with vec-tor control technology, furtherincreases system efficiency andaccuracy. A digital speed encoderensures accurate car speed andpositioning. The overall result isimproved system reliability and asmoother ride.
Dispatching: optimal performanceWhen a hall button is pushed in a multi-car group, Otis' RelativeSystem Response Plus (RSRPlus) dispatcher selects themost eligible car to answer a hallcall. It achieves this by instantlyanalysing a set of parametersbased on response-time estimatesand ideal group-control practices.The RSR Plus dispatcher reducespassenger waiting times andmaximises system performance.
Door systems: smooth and reliableFor medium traffic buildings, thedoor operator's variable speedwith DC control is the ideal choicecombining smoothness and comfort. As an option, for heavier traffic requirements, the digitalvariable frequency closed loopcontrol provides unmatched performance and reliability overthousands of door opening andclosing operations. A slotted sillprevents debris from inhibitingdoor movement, further improvingreliability.
Safety features - extra benefits forowners and usersThe GeN2 system complies fullywith the European lift directive(95/16/CE). In fact its safety fea-tures go far beyond the directiveto protect passengers and main-tenance technicians equally. The machine's permanent mag-net motor and VF drive ensureprecise levelling. A door entranceprotection immediately reopensthe lift doors if an object isdetected. If the car is stoppedbetween floors, evacuation deter-rents prevent passengers fromexiting. Hoistway access detectionprevents a car from operating innormal conditions after opening a landing door. Emergency andInspection Controls have beenpositioned at the landing for swift,easy access.
Smooth and quiet rideThe system's features have beendesigned to produce a ride expe-rience of unsurpassed smooth-ness. A digital closed-loop vectorcontrol ensures consistentlysmooth acceleration and deceler-ation. The polyurethane coatedbelt eliminates the metal-to-metaleffect of conventional ropesagainst the sheave. Lacking thespiral 'lay' of wound ropes, theflat belts help reduce vibration.The sheaves have been speciallymounted to minimize the vibra-tions transmitted to the car. Rubber padding isolates the carplatform from the frame, furthershielding passengers from noise.
Emergency and Inspection ControlsThe GeN2 system's compact,vandal-resistant Emergency andInspection Controls cabinet islocated at the landing. If buildingpower fails, an authorised personcan gain control of the car fromthe Emergency and InspectionControl unit and guide it safely tothe next landing. One panel con-tains all the functions needed fora trained techinician to controland maintain the lift - simply andquickly.
LAMBDA 3D entrance protectionAs an option, the GeN2 systemoffers LAMBDA 3D entrance pro-tection. Using 56 infrared emittersand detectors, the LAMBDA 3Dsystem creates an invisible safetynet of beams across the liftentrance. A secondary protectionsystem projects into the hallway,to detect passengers before theyenter and as they leave the lift. If a beam is interrupted, theLAMBDA 3D system reopens thedoor instantly, without touchingpassengers.
Clean and efficient - a range ofenvironmental benefitsThe GeN2 system representsanother step forward in Otis'commitment to develop environ-ment-friendly products. The beltsand the gearless machine which has sealed-for-life bearings require no oil or grease. Thesynchronous permanent-magnetmotor, with a radial air gap, con-sumes less energy than geared or other machine room less sys-tems. An electromagnetic filtereliminates interference with thebuilding's other electrical systemsand complies with all relevantEuropean regulations concerningelectromagnetic compatibility(EMC). Packaging is constructedof recyclable material. And, finally,the GeN2 manufacturing facility isISO 14001 certified for envi-ronmental production methods
Installation: streamlined and efficientWith all major components locat-ed inside the hoistway, the GeN2system's streamlined installationprocess standard worldwide has minimal impact on buildingconstruction or other trades.
