Letters to the Editor
Dear Ms Rivers,
I really enjoy every issue of Geechee One Magazine.
Every issue seems to be full interviews and articles
that I can relate to. Keep up the good work.
Lauren Simms
Dear Editor,
Thanks for showcasing some of the underground voic-
es in SC. There isn’t as many outlets that can say they
are actually opening doors for the artists in SC.
Geechee One is doing the damn thing.
You guys need to keep doing beauty of the month. the
last one I saw was ok. Diamond Mack was the best
beauty you guys had in awhile. I know it’s hard to find
pretty females in Charleston, so I applaud you guys in
your attempt.
Brian
I normally don’t write in to magazines but I had to let
you know how I feel about doing the Breast Cancer
Sucks issue. I almost cried after seeing the cover. So
many young people should be aware of these issues. I
hope Winter, reads this and she keeps on spreading
positivity through her artwork.
S.S.
Thank you all for voting for last month

Bennett from Columbia, S.C. She wins $50

For those who forgot, this year is another Presidential election year. Are you prepared to go get out and vote?? Here is one of the organization designed to help you this year: Get Out the Vote.
So what is GOTV and how can I get involved?
Get Out The Vote, or GOTV, as it is commonly called, is the culmination
of any organizing campaign. Both electoral campaigns and issue driven
campaigns plan GOTV efforts to ensure that their supporters get to the
polls on Election Day. GOTV is also the most exciting and energetic part
of a campaign when volunteers come out in force, the public is watching
and we're just days away from victory!
Get Out The Vote begins in force the weekend before the election and
lasts until the polls close on Election Day. In many states, campaigns and
organizations have weekend door knocks to remind people to vote on
Tuesday, but GOTV efforts usually culminate in massive "day of" opera-
tions to get people to the polls. Some of these efforts include, door
knocking in low voter turn-out areas, volunteer phone calls reminding
people to vote, mailings, door hangers, visibility, rallies, special speakers,
the possibilities are endless!
The non-profit community is also a great way to get involved in GOTV
efforts. Many non-profits work to encourage and strengthen civic partici-
pation through non-partisan organizing efforts to educate new or infre-
quent voters on their rights and get them to polls on Election Day.
All of these activities, whether part of an issue or electoral campaign, or
by a non-profit organization need volunteers. There are so many ways
you can help, from volunteering for a national effort to sending an email
to your friends. In this Organizing Corner, we've come up with five easy
ways you can get involved and we've put in links to national and local
efforts, including Wellstone Action's GOTV program in Minnesota. So
find a volunteer opportunity that works for you, and help Get Out The
Vote in your community!
Come out to the 2012 Geechee One Awards and meet Hip-Hop Politician
Tez Figaro from Orlando, FL for more info.

“I’m calm. I’m calm.” Is what I keep telling my-
self. As I walk down this aisle in this church I can
feel all eyes on me. I looked up at him standing
next to his pastor and I quietly smiled inside. I
am about to be his wife. Ms. Courtney Tip
Jamerson. As I got closer to the pulpit, I can see
his baby mother and his two daughters staring at
me. It’s my day!!! Even thou my family wrote me
off for wanting to marry a black man; in my
heart I know this is right.
“So you are now man and wife. You may kiss the
bride.” said the pastor. I kissed my husband and
I think God at the same time. We have been to-
gether for eight years and I’m never going any-
where.
Tip picked me up and put me in the passenger
side of his brand new 2012 champagne purple a8
Audi. It seemed like everyone waved bye to us
and we drove off in the sunset. We pulled up to
our brand new downtown luxury duplex. I felt
like a Queen and he was my King. We made love
like it was the very first time.
A Month Later
It was a raining morning. I woke up to cook Tip’s
breakfast. His usual, three scrambled egg white,
(he doesn’t like the yolk because it gives him
gas), two turkey sausage links, grits with cheese,
and some butter wheat toast. He came down-
stairs with his football scrimmage uniform. I
looked at my man. He is FINE. 6’2, dark-brown
skinned, muscular built, with a ceasar fade. He
quickly choked down my homemade breakfast in
a hurry and kissed me to leave for training. Mo-
ments after he walked out the door, while I was
washing the dishes, his daughters ran down
stairs. “Good morning Courtney”, said his five
year old daughter Jasmine. “Jasmine and his
eight year old daughter Yaz walked up to the
table and sat down to eat. “Morning”, I said.
Jasmine approved by nodding her head while
Yaz, as usual never barely acknowledges me at
all. Tip says its going to take time for Yaz to ac-
cept me as her stepmother. These girls was an-
other reason my family couldn’t accept my rela-
tionship with Tip. I can still hear my mother
screaming to my father in shame, “She wants to
marry a man that already has kids. A black man
with a baby mama.”
As the girls finished they ran back up to their
rooms to get ready for their mother to get them. I
sat back and thought of how stupid I am for al-
lowing Tip to cheat on me so many times. He was
my high school love. Throughout high school he
played football and I was a flute player in the
marching band, always watching from the side
lines. I admired him then and he fell in love with
me. “Beep Beep”, my day dream was interrupted
by the loud car horn blow and then the car door
slam.
“Mommy”,. The girls rushed down screaming
GeeChee One Magazine www.geecheeone.com Page 13
with their over night bags Yaz opened the
door. Tip’s baby mama “Tonya”, smiled at
the girls and hugged them. “Yaz and Jas-
mine get in the car babies.” She looked up
at me with a snare on her face, and said
rudely, “Where is TIP?”.” He is at training
all day.” I said politely back. “Well, you tell
him that the girls need double the amount
this month for school expenses.”, she said
as she walked away. I stood there and watch
her. She was full figured, short, brown
skinned with short curly hair. I watched her
drive off as I thought to myself “Why her?”
After moments of thought, I stopped. Why
do I even care? I got my man and he loves
me.
Over the next couple of weeks, Tip and I
seemed happy. Very happy in fact that we
had a daily routine we did. It started with
breakfast, him going to training, him com-
ing home with gifts, him eating my dinner,
and us making love. We made love every
night it seemed like. I was enjoying the
marriage life.
Tonight, I thought would be a usual night. I
decided to cook some lasagna. It was a little
too over cooked but I know he still would
eat it. I saw him pull up and I smiled to
myself and wonder if and what new things
we was going to try tonight. He walked in
and kissed me and sat at the table. He
looked a little puzzled, and I was hoping he
didn’t get kicked off the team. “Baby, what’s
wrong?”, I said. “Courtney, I went to the
doctor today.”, he said looking at me. He
grabbed my hand, and continue to say, “ I
want you to have my son. We have been
working on him for months and it’s not
working.” My heart skipped a beat. Tip and
I never discussed having a baby. I thought
to myself, do I even want children? Unlike
his daughters, I can deal with every now
and then, but my own child. “I thought the
problem may have been me. So I went to
the doctor. Courtney. I need you…. I mean
Courtney we need to go to the doctor to-
gether.” I didn’t know what to say. I was
shocked to even hear this now…today…from
Tip. I had a secret to tell. I thought to my-
self is this the right moment? “ We can go to
the doctor together Tip.”, I said even thou I
already knew what the problem was. We ate
in silence. I felt that he knew I was lying.
We finished up and started preparing for
bed. He laid on his side of the bed, not even
close to touching me. Our every night rou-
tine of love making was no more. I thought
to myself if he loved me he would under-
stand. I got up and went in to the bathroom
to pump myself up to tell my husband my
secret. As I look in the mirror, I came up
with a thousand ways to say it. I also came
up with a thousand excuses to use. He did
have two kids while we was together. I did
accept him. I did leave my world for him.
He should still love me.
I came out the bathroom. He sat up on the
bed looking at me, like he was waiting for
an answer. I sat down and looked at my
husband. He had a serious face, and my
face was wet from crying. I had to tell him
now. “Tip. I can’t have kids.” I said softly.
He eyes opened up in disbelief, “So when
were you planning on telling me this?” My
mouth opened but words wouldn’t escape.
He stood up and then sat back down,
“Courtney. Tell me why?”. “ Baby…I had sex
with someone else in high school.” He start-
ed to bug out. “You lied to me. Who?”, he
asked. “Brian from the band. Just once Tip.
Just once. Unprotected.” Tip stood up like
he wanted to be in tears and put on his
shirt. ”Baby..please”, I said. Tip walked
downstairs and put on his shoes. He looked
back at me while I was crying on the carpet
and walked out the door,

There are a lot of worthy causes in the world.
More than can possibly be listed, and every one of
them serious and important and potentially life-
altering. And we all have a limited amount of time
and energy to dedicate to our causes and beliefs
and battles, so we can’t all contribute to every-
thing. Working towards a positive, peaceful, ac-
cepting body image may seem like such an insig-
nificant goal, comparatively speaking. But here’s
why I think that cultivating positive body image
matters.
Because we cannot love others, help others, or
support others if we hate ourselves. Because we
cannot achieve to our fullest, realize our dreams,
or conquer our fears if we hate ourselves. Because
we cannot change who we are, grow stronger, or
realize our potential if we hate ourselves. Because
we cannot thrive and blossom if we hate ourselves.
And hating ourselves includes hating our bodies.
Our bodies are integral to our selves.
Because the world is full of messages about “good”
and “bad” bodies. Because we are told that a cer-
tain weight, a certain set of proportions, a certain
body type or shape will unlock happiness, and that
we should do everything in our power to achieve
those things. Because there are forces and indus-
tries that benefit when we hate our bodies. Be-
cause we should fight against anything that tells
us we must conform or live in misery, that if we
don’t conform we should hate ourselves. And
hating ourselves includes hating our bodies. Our
bodies are integral to our selves.
Because happiness is difficult in so many ways,
and becomes even more so if we lunge at it from a
place of self-loathing. Because understanding
ourselves, loving others, and changing the world
can seem utterly impossible if we linger in a place
of self-loathing. Because many of the most re-
warding experiences in life feel just beyond reach
when we hate ourselves. And hating ourselves
includes hating our bodies. Our bodies are inte-
gral to our selves.
Learning to love your body may seem small or
selfish or pointless at times, especially when com-
pared to fighting for larger causes and reaching
out to help others. But to fashion yourself into a
powerful, effective, whole being, you’ve got to
come at life from a place of strength. Your body is
your home. If you hate your home, if you flee from
it, disrespect it, and wish it were fundamentally
different... your strength will be diminished.
Whether you want to help others or simply find
your way to happiness in your own life, loving
yourself is absolutely vital.
And loving yourself includes loving your body.

Located: Greenwood, S.C." Dope Man
Murder City. (nicknamed that since 1991)
Label: Money Green Music
Most Known for: Up Coming WorldStar Hip Hop
cipher "They Want EFX video.
Also ranked #8 video for coast to coast mixtapes,
title" 2Occasion".
How long have you been a rap artist and who
inspired you?
I’ve been rapping over 10 years . I never took it
serious, until after my best friend died. People
kept pushing me to keep doing the music, espe-
cially since I was the hype man for him.
What projects do you currently have out?
My current project is a mixtape on Coast to Coast
titled "Too Hard".
When someone picks up your mixtape what type
of impression would you like to leave?
That I'm not a rapper stuck in one box. Thats what
messed up about the game. My biggest influence
was 2pac. He could make seventeen kinds of songs
for everybody. Also I have major features from
Bohagon and Blood Raw of CTE on the mixtape as
well.
What are you doing to keep your buzz up?
I’m making moves in other parts of S.C.: I’m try-
ing to branch out. Right now I’m even working on
this "Dope Man Murder City Remix) with Fatboy
from Charleston.
How did you get the connect to the artist Fatboy?
Through my manager, Tyron Andrews, which was
recently dealing with cats like Pachino Dino and
Crane. I started listening to Fatboy and I was dig-
ging his music. I instantly became a fan. I am also
working with 44Waters out of Anderson, S.C.
Any upcoming shows?
I’m just playing by ear. I have a show every week
somewhere. They always hit me at the last minute
GeeChee One Magazine www.geecheeone.com Page 33
and tell me that they have that bread. I have to
move where that money go.
When is your next mixtape dropping?
My next mixtape is called "Real Nigga S***"
hosted by Dj Chuck T & Canyon Bangon. It’s
coming out the end of the summer.
What is your major goal behind your music?
Showing the real side of South Cak. Hopefully we
can respresent it the right way. We have our own
style of music.
Describe your style of music.
I can describe in two words: Soul and Struggle.
My definition of Struggle is: Everybody I know is
working or hustling. I never grew up around a
lawyer or a doctor. Everybody was either work-
ing or hustling. Either selling dope or working in
a textile plant. My definition of Soul is: Being in
the south under the bible belt, everything is reli-
gious. My church was one mile away from the
crack house. I would see crack heads go get saved
and come back and do the same thing.
How do you plan to change the image?
I just want to expose the world to what I grew up
from. “The Soul and the Struggle.” You can’t do
nothing without God.
What are you doing in your community?
I’m focusing at trying to calm the violence. There
has been a lot of beef from one side to the other
side of Greenwood. So I will be performing Au-
gust 6 at a Stop the Violence convention in
Greenwood.
Do you feel your music influences violence either
good or bad?
My music has a big buzz around here because I
am actually talking about what’s going on.
I don’t’ influence anybody to do anything. No
matter what type of music I make it will be up to
that individual to do what’s right.
What’s your attitude towards the high violence
rate in Greenwood?
Greenwood, is a small city. We are #1 state for
crime rate and #1 for murder rate. It seems like
the police can’t figure out who is killing every-
body. When you are selling dope they know eve-
rything. From your mama house, your cousin
house , to even the girl you creeping with, but
when it comes to the murders they don’t know
nothing.
You seem to be very passionate about the vio-
lence rate.
I lost my best friend, Lil Jimmy, his buzz was
bigger than mine. He is the reason why I’m here.
I’m not knocking anyone, but people are dying
on each sides of the town it seems like they are
about taking the dope off the streets then
handling the violence.

All the way from Greenwood, South Carolina, Money
Green Music is another label making a making a
major buzz in the Carolinas. Behind any good label is
the CEO that keeps the business on point. Money
Green Music CEO, Madoff Da Boss, started the label
to keep the memory of his cousin who was a rapper
that died. When asked what made him come up with
the label name, he said, "There is no other true state-
ment. All money that counts is green. Most people die
by dollars. You can't change the color, it was green
before we got here."
"I'm a street dude and I love counting money and
making good music." Madoff Da Boss
What is different from when the label first started in
2009 to now in 2012?We are now in the grinding
process. A lot of people know our music. My dog
Money and I both dropped a album and a mixtape.
We have people reciting our music and I suggest the
whole world does the same.
NAME: MADOFF DA BOSS
CEO OF MONEY GREEN MUSIC
LOCATED: GREENWOOD, SC
CEO: SINCE DAY 1, 2009
HOW MANY PEOPLE ON LABEL: 4 PEOPLE AND
A LOT OF ASSOCIATES
SLOGAN: If the money ain't green then we don't
want it"
What are some of the labels main accomplishments?
First Buddy Boi mixtape, "Too Hard", came out on
11.11.11 That established street creditably. A lot of
people say they can rap and they really can't rap. The
mixtape showed the world that he could rap. It also
featured all of us on it. I feel that whenever people
from the street can recite your verses, that's a big
plus.
What are your 2013 expectations?
Dropping our new mixtape called "Dinner Time". It's
by the entire label, so everybody is on it.
When it comes to your label, what are the main
things that our readers need to check for?
We have a lot of music, we just dropped the remix to
Rick Ross song called "Stay Skimming". We remixed
it to "Stay Dreaming". It's about Money Green Music.
We stay dreaming about being on and handling busi-
ness like a real stand up G.
What has your label done to give back to the commu-
nity?
Due to the high crime rate, for the last two years we
used to do Monday Green Sundays, we fell back due
to the violence in Greenwood.
When is your next scheduled event?
Our next event is February 8, 2013. It's a R.I.P. event
I'm doing for my cousin. We plan to bring the kids
out during the day time, and at night we go HAM in
the club.
Any videos where the readers can check you out on
Youtube?
We just did a new video called "We the Best". Look it
up under mgm1000 on Youtube.
Everybody always says that they are the best. What
makes your label the best?
We are just coming from nothing. That would define
the best. When you take nothing and turn it in some-
thing. Most cities have plugs that tunes in to their
music. We started our own plugs. We have our own
management, our own security, our own rappers.
There is not a lot of rappers that can go to another
state and do a paid show off word of mouth like us.
How can the readers contact you?
Just get at us at facebook type in Money Green Music,
reverbnation, email us at
Shout Out to: Mr. Swag2DT, Money Boy Montana,

ALBUM/MIXTAPE REVIEWS BY DUBB SLIMM
Skinnie Gray Long Bread: Hosted by DJ Chuck T -”Already Hollywood”
This mixtape is a look into the life of Mr Long-
bread. From tracks like “Bandz”, that attest to
Skinnie Grays lust for the green stuff, as well as
“ Kokaine” and “Loud Pack”, you know what
life is like in Mr. Longbreads neck of the woods.
Another standout is the lady themed, and
dancefloor friendly, “Girlfriend”, ft. Chuck
Town's own “Mr. R&B”, Suge tha Nasty Boy,
this mixtape is sure to please Skinnie’s current
fans, and earn himself a few more with his
poignant tales of the life of a Southern Gentle-
man. There's no need for a book or movie deal,
because Longbread proves with this release that
he is... “Already Hollywood”. Be sure to check
out these and other jams, and rock out with
Skinny Gray this summer.

Mr Fool Up: Hosted by DJ Kub- “Split Personality”
Mr Fool Up, as well as a zany cast of
“personalities”, round out this latest release
from Mr. Fool Up. This mixtape is a hilarious
look at the life and times of Mr. Fool Up. The
concept for the mixtape was a fresh approach
to the mixtape project. Not one to follow, Mr.
Fool Up leads the way with a comedic spin to
the hectic trials in the life of Mr. Fool Up. I had
the pleasure of catching up with Jro “Beatman”
Harris, at Str8 Drop Studios, as he was putting
the finishing touches on this release, and believe
me when I say, you are sure to enjoy this one.
With a radio show theme, Fool Up takes the
listener on a journey through the mind of Mr.
Fool Up, a humorous trip that will have your
head nodding, and your funny bone flicked. This
one is a MUST have.
