Year 11 Studying the content for the terminal examinations. Understanding and creating non-fiction texts (Language) Students are required to read and understand a range of non-fiction texts, identifying the writers’ crafts and transferring these skills into their own writing for a range of genres, audiences and purposes. 60% Poetry Across Time (Literature) Students will study an anthology of 15 poems and answer two questions asking them to analyse the questions. They will also answer a question demanding their immediate response to an unseen poem. 35% Exploring Modern Texts (Literature) Students will study a collection of short stories and an ‘other cultures’ text to help them prepare for the examination which will test their analytical understanding of the writers’ presentation of themes, ideas and their use of language. Year 10 Controlled Assessment. Extended Reading (Language) Students will study a modern text and complete a controlled assessment in response showing their critical understanding of it. Creative Writing (Language) Students will complete two creative pieces of writing to demonstrate their skills in description and persuasion. Spoken Language Study (Language) Students will write an analytical essay focussing on analysing the nuances of everyday speech. The significance of Shakespeare and the English Literary Heritage (Literature) Students will study a Shakespeare play and pre 19 th Century poetry comparing the methods used by the writers in an analytical response.
