The group in that photograph is the organization that eventually became the Greene County Fish & Game Asso- ciation. All the subjects in the photo (200- 300) were participants at the organiza- tion’s Annual Picnic dated August, 1921. Women in the photo are dressed in full length skirts and frilly blouses with period appropriate hats. Men in the photo are wearing white long sleeve shirts, neckties, caps and jackets with most holding firearms . The photo is one of the most treas- ured in our club archives and the source of much frustration as it relates to current day club events…………. In spite of threatening rain our Annual Picnic Weekend went on as scheduled. The clouds may have been responsible for the lower numbers at the Kid’s Fishing Derby, Top Gun Shoot and Clays events on Saturday. They did not hold down participation at the Night Card Shoot enjoyed by regulars and a lot of new people. On Sunday the weather was better and those attending were treated to good mu- sic, games and lots of good food. It looked like lots of people brought super side dishes to share this year for which we are all very thankful. Our wonderful Women’s Auxiliary once again made a lot of kids very happy; (Cheer up moms you can donate all that glassware back next year). A list of happy raffle winners is listed in another section of this newsletter. Oh! By the way; the Top Gun winner this year was Tom Cryder, (Does this seem like Groundhog Day?), Congrats Tom. Our Constitution states that the Asso- ciation will hold various events annually such as fish fry’s, picnics, dog trials, etc, The purpose is to educate and enlighten the membership on conserva- tion / sporting matters while creating an opportunity to meet other members that could then form a stronger group. Entrusting that group with protecting our rights from the anti-groups when the need arises as it does, over and over. The overly simplistic explanation states the club will create the “Opportunity”, but it is the “Duty” of the members to attend these events and to take part for these programs to work. At this time planning is already under- way for the 2015 Fish Fry and Annual Picnic. If you have suggestions that you think could improve these events send them to me by e-mail, snail mail or phone and I will share them with the appropriate commit- tees. If attendance at these events continues to drop this could be the last of those great events. This could be your last chance to help keep them alive. Do we really want to drop such worth- while activities due to a lack of interest? If so, what could the next activity that gets scratched be? Congratulations go out to Robert! This involves the whole campground for a good turn-out, so let’s all pitch in. We are still having trouble with people not following the rules. Gary Hunsucker and Er-win Stickley who handled the money very well, also Mike Molitor and Phil Ayers on the Sporting Clays Trailer. These gentlemen were with us the entire day. Tom Cryder and Gary Smith helped guide the Top Gun Shooters. Brad Sabo for his help in getting so many new members out.
