AIESEC provides its members with an integrated development experience comprised of leadership opportunities, international internships and participation in a global learning environment.

“The United Nations has long recognized that the imagination, ideals and energies of young men and women are vital for the con-tinuing development of the societies in which they live. Since its inception in 1948, AIESEC has contributed to this development by serving as an agent of positive change through education and cultural exchange. In an era of globalization, your programmes have helped young people around the world to develop a broader understanding of cultural, socio economic and business management issues.” Kofi Annan, Former Secretary General, United Nations

“AIESEC has admirably met it’s objectives of providing students with the opportunity to interact with the business community inter-nationally, thus giving them necessarily industrial exposure, so vital to their future careers. AIESEC in India members have played an important and commendable role in actively pursuing AIESEC’s objective in India.” Ratan Tata, Chairman, TATA Sons

Growing up around how the Indian education system is designed was always diffi-cult for me. Hours of studying things I didn’t really find interesting, redundant course materials &the pressure of countless examinations were just some of the few things that weighed me down.

All of this got me thinking, is education from a school/college really preparing me for what I want to pursue in life? I’m passionate about building brands & reputation for social sector organizations. How do I learn about that?

I was 19 years old when I found the answer to this, through AIESEC. I took up the Global Citizen program after learning more about it through my friends who had taken up the program. The process was very smooth and within two weeks I was selected for an Entrepreneurship development program in Italy.

I worked on the project ‘Create Your Business’, where I coached a group of 8 high school students and helped them develop a socially relevant business plan for their city. Since I spent a lot of time with the teachers at the university, they gave me insights and direction from time to time as to how entrepreneurship & innovation works. During my time in Italy, I was always supported by members of AIESEC in Italy.

By immersing myself in the vibrant culture of Italy, I got to rediscover my talents, pas-sion & purpose in life. This was one of the most beautifully challenging & rewarding experiences of my life. To anyone who is thinking about how you can learn more and grow more as a person - this program is crafted for you.

I am Ravi Sobhan, a very proud father of Spatika Surapaneni. Spatika has been involved with AIESEC for some good time now, but for us she was with AIESEC right from 2009. It all started when she went for her first AIESEC recruit-ment drive at AIESEC Hyderabad, where she got rejected at the last stage due to her age constrains, as she was only 15. Spatika always had AIESEC at the back of her mind, so was silently following its activities. On turning 18, i.e. in 2012, she first wanted to go through AIESEC’s exchange program before join-ing it to get first-hand experience on what she would be dealing with! She asked for our consent for which we had to readily agree seeing her interest also that we also heard about AIESEC from different sources, apart from her. Spatika then went on an exchange program to Shanghai-China. This trip also happens to be the first time she was travelling abroad alone. Without any known acquaintances there except her AIESEC Chinese contacts, which she shared with us before leaving, she just flew off for 45 days, leaving us con-cerned. The Chinese AIESEC team helped her out right from picking her up at the Airport to fixing her accommodation and pooling her up with other AIESEC-ERS, some of whom happened to be from India. She thought Old people & Ortisen kids English there and that experience she got out of it made Spatika what she is today for which we are all grateful to AIESEC. She travelled along with her colleagues across China and became a leader today. Spatika then joined AIESEC as one of the youngest member, with in a couple of months went on to become the Youngest Vice Presidents of Hyderabad chapter and the very next year i.e. 2014, she was chosen to Lead the Business Development wing of AIESEC-INDIA by being a part of Member Committee, India. Today she represents our country in organizing one of the biggest youth events of the world: International Congress, being held this year in Delhi. We are all over joyed and with great pride we salute AIESEC for making our daughter what she is today.

HOW DOES AIESEC DIFFER FROM OTHER ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE INTERNSHIPS ABROAD? AIESEC provides you with an international experience; the emphasis is on providing cross-cultural experience and complete overall development. AIESEC provides you a platform that students can use to for personal and professional development. AIESEC is a completely student run organization that focuses on creating positive impact and helping students tap into their leadership potential.

WHAT DOES AIESEC OFFER STUDENTS IN THE GLOBAL CITIZEN PROGRAMME?AIESEC offers you a platform to find an internship experience of your choice. The members in the organization provide guidance and assistance through out the course of your association with AIESEC. The members will ensure you are inducted into the organization, help you search and find the internship experience of your choice, assist you with documents and visa processes, ensure you are fully prepared for the experi-ence in the country you have chosen. The AIESEC host committee, country will guide and assist you once you reach the host country. The host country will make sure of the pick up, accommodation, internship experience and all other networking events with the other interns working on the project with you.

WHAT DOES AIESEC NOT PROVIDE YOU? AIESEC does not offer you tailor made internships as a product, that is it does not pro-vide you a particular internship in a particular country. AIESEC is present in over 120 countries in the world and has a number of opportunities for students to choose from. The student enrolling in the Global Citizen program should be flexible and accommo-dative with the various internship experiences available in a variety of countries. WHY CHOOSE AN INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP OVER AN INTERNSHIP IN INDIA?Through our Global Citizen Programme you will gain a diverse and international team experience, develop a global mindset ,entrepreneurial outlook and become a Global citizen. It is a unique experience and cannot be compared with a internship in India. Being a participant of GC you also get exposure to AIESEC’s network of corporates and universities.

CAN ME AND MY FRIEND/FRIENDS GO FOR THIS INTERNSHIP TOGETHER?There might me a small chance that two people can take on AIESEC experience together but there is not guarantee that you will get the same project. AIESEC believes in diversity and we believe and encourage students to take this up alone as it helps one’s individual experience and helps you get out of your comfort zone. We strongly suggest taking up the Global Citizen Program alone. We will ensure you have a fantas-tic experience and make friends for life! WILL I GET A CERTIFICATE? Yes! You will get a certificate for your internship experience from the local AIESEC chapter.

An AlumnusE x p e r i e n c e

I became a part of AIESEC in 2002 and took up various Leadership roles such as Vice President and President of a Local Committee. I decide to take a up an interna-tional internship because the world is rapidly becoming a global village and having seen the benefits than an AIESEC experience provided to our interns, I decided that an internship would be an ideal way in which to understand the global economic scenario. LEARNING The exposure that I had during my internship in Poland cannot be summed up in words. The work ethics and culture have been an eye opener to me. Each day brought with it something new to learn-the language, the culture, the economy, the people. However, my biggest learning would have to be to respect different cultures, different people for who they are and that would earn me their respect. IMPACT An AIESEC internship is the perfect way to understand and experience different cultures in one program. There were interns from 16 different countries in Poznan during my stay there and we became like family. It was here that I started to think about how we can transcend the physical boundaries with our human emotions. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Very few people get an opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life. Only in AIESEC did I get an opportunity to interact with my peers, my seniors, people whom I have looked up to in business and also people from so many different nation-alities. My experiences have made me a more focused and determined individual but it has also given me the courage to admit mistakes and seek advice from people who are more knowledgeable than me. Although one’s personality is an intangible asset, I believe it is also one’s most valuable asset and that is what an AIESEC experi-ence develops in people. CAREER DEVELOPMENT The most difficult task of being an entrepreneur and businessman is to handle people. More often than not I have to deal with people who are either far more senior and more experienced than myself or are from a different cultural background. The ethics and values that I have seen in my internship have helped me shape my business into a more people friendly environment. I find it far easier to negotiate and communicate with people due to the practical exposure that I had in my AIESEC career. My intern-ship has given me an understanding into the global thought process and has enabled me to use these in the Indian environment. - Varun MimaniCEO, Allied Wires Pvt LTD
