Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV). MERVratings are used to rate the ability of an air conditioning
filter to remove dust from the air as it passes through thefilter. MERV ratings range from 1 (least efficient) - 16(most efficient)
Materials & Resources (MR) and Indoor EnvironmentaQuality (IEQ)
The ISO 14021 series standards, Environmental Labelsand Declaration, are communication tools that conveynformation on environmental aspects of a product orservice to the market. This standard is used for recycledmaterials to label their pre and/or post consumer content.
The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct 1992) covers mproducts and services related to energy. It also setsstandards for toilets and other water fixtures in bothcommercial and residential models.
Green-e is a program established to promote greenelectricity products and provide consumers with anationally recognized method to identify those products.

Certification means forest managers have adoptedenvironmentally and socially responsible forest
management practices. And certification allowscompanies to manufacture and sell products made fromsustainable wood.
The ENERGY STAR rating is a measure of a building'senergy performance compared with that of similar
buildings, as determined by ENERGY STAR PortfolioManager. A score of 50 represents average buildingperformance.
They are designed for technical and administrativeguidance for MPR, Prerequisites, and Credits. They maybe submitted any time after the project is registered andmust be completed using LEED Online. Do not write as aetter. Include only the inquiry and essential information.CIRs can contain maximum 600 words. The CIR mayNOT include attachments, cut-sheets, plans or drawings.
Chain of Custody refers to chronological documentatioor paper trail. CoC is important in LEED when dealingwith certified wood. Companies that process, manufacture, and/or sell products made of certified wocan earn CoC certification by having an audit done oftheir documentation. This certification shows the FSC tthe name and logo are being used correctly.
The project team. CIRs are use to ask one clear and concise question fotechnical and administrative guidance on MPRs,Prerequisites, or Credits.

The heat island effect is a situation where the absorptionof heat by hardscapes, buildings and dark materials thenradiates to surrounding areas. The term describes theevent where radiant air and surface temperatures in
urban areas are higher than rural or suburban areasnearby.

The ratio of the radiation emitted by a surface (i.e. thesurface of an object or material) to the radiation emitted
by a black body at the same temperature. It measures material's ability to radiate absorbed energy.
The SRI index is a numerical representation of amaterial's ability to reject or reflect solar heat. SRI isdetermined by measuring temperature changes or byusing an ASTM standard based on the solar spectrum.
Albedo is synonymous with solar reflectance. It is ameasure of the ability of a surface material to reflectsunlight in forms of visible, infrared, and ultravioletwavelengths, which is measured on a scale of 0 to 1.Black paint has an albedo of 0 and white paint has analbedo of 1.

They are nonnative to the ecosystem and likely to causeharm once introduced. These species arecharacteristically adaptable and aggressive, have a highreproductive capacity, and tend to overrun theecosystems they enter. Collectively, they are among thegreatest threats to biodiversity and ecosystem stability.
They are adapted to a given area during a defined timeperiod and are not invasive. In North America, the termoften refers to plants growing in a region prior to the timof settlement by people of European descent.
Potable water meets or exceeds EPA’s drinking waterquality standards and is approved for humanconsumption by the state or local authorities having
jurisdiction; it may be supplied from wells or municipal

Plants that are adapted to local conditions and are easierto grow and maintain. This low-maintenance approachmeans savings in both time and money. Onceestablished, native plants better withstand variations inocal climate such as droughts and freezes.
Potable water
