ApplicationGroup members: Suhas Mehta, Rachit Raj, Manali Sharma

Problem to be addressed:

•The graduating semester of a student can get really hectic because of the coursework and the many requirements that need to be completed as a part of fulfilling the graduate requirements.

•Diverse information is provided via emails from the concerned department or webpages linked to the UF grad student website to fulfill these requirements.

•This information is not tough to comprehend but is scattered and is associated with hard deadlines that are important.

•Missed deadlines, manually entering data to form checklists or notes, keeping a tab/bookmarking important links and emails are some of the problems faced.

Study Rationale

•The number of participants involved in the study was 32.

•To calculate the first metric of ‘user satisfaction’ we initially asked the participant what they used to maintain a checklist and how satisfied they were with their method.

•Next, we let the participants install the app in their phones and use it for them to test the app for its ease of use, simplicity, comprehensive nature or other factors that they may desire. Later, we asked them how satisfied they were with the performance of this new interface.

•The second metric was ‘how often the participants chose to use the proposed interface during the study period’. To do this, the participants were asked to test the app over a period of 7-10 days and to use it as and when they would feel the need to. They were asked how often they ended up using the app after the study period was over.

Conclusions

• The proposed interface was an attempt at providing a solution to the problem addressed, by consolidating all of the related data in one place in order to increase user efficiency and providing an organized way of handling these tasks.

From the p-values we obtained for each metric the following conclusions can be made:

• The participants were more satisfied with the performance of the proposed interface over their initial method of handling a checklist to fulfill the requirements of the graduating semester.

• It can also be noticed that the participants used the proposed interface more during the study period than they used their original checklist method this semester.
