What is Gifted and Talented Education?In 1961, the California Legislature established the Mentally Gifted Minor (MGM) program for students scoring in the 98th percentile or above on standardized intellectual ability tests. By 1980 California established the GATE program allowing districts to set their own criteria for entrance. In 2000, EC requiring that GATE programs be planned and organized as differentiated learning experiences within the regular school day.

One Product from each of the following curricular areas

English/Language Arts/Technology Due 12/5/08

History/Social Studies/Geography Due 3/6/09

Science/Math Due 5/29/09

These are not an additional assignment

Student Products

Student’s highest level of productivity is reflected in the complexity and thinking level of the final product.

Should be creative and multi-dimensional and reflective of differentiated classroom instruction.

Student should feel the product represents his/her “best” classroom work
