1st July 2020, Term 2 Week 12, Roll 386 Tena koutou, greetings to everyone, The end of the term is close and will give children and staff a chance to recharge for two weeks before heading into term 3. I am conscious that for our teachers much of the April holidays was taken up with new learning and prepa- ration, as we headed into this term under Level 4 Lock- down. Teachers have effectively had back to back terms, which has been chal- lenging. I wish to thank all teachers very publicly for the huge amount of work that I know you have all put in. I also wish to acknowledge all support staff who rallied behind our teachers, assisting where possible in the classrooms or keeping the school cogs turning in so many ways. A top team of people. Our children overall have been amazing this term, getting through their weeks of learning in a positive way. This week we have deliberately buttoned off some of the formal learning as tiredness and sickness has become increasing- ly prevalent over the past couple of weeks. We are con- scious of the need for children and staff to go into this break in a good mindset to get the best out of term 3. Through all this a Rutherford Camp is being organised. Well done Rutherford team and our communication manager. Thank you to those who completed the COVID 19 Response Survey. Attached are the statistical results and overarching comments in each section. We sincerely hope we never have to go through something like this again, however if we do then we will be in an even strong- er position to deliver an education model that caters for all. In the circumstances I think we can be pleased with our overall response. Thank you all for what you did for your child/ren to help deliver education over this time. The staff I know, gave it their all. A reminder that our holiday programme this July has some great additions with the STEAM laboratory and Arts room both being opened up for use. The children are going to have a great time. Booking can be done through the En- rolmy link HERE Yesterday we sent out a brief survey for parents whose children use our Four Peaks Before and After School Care Programme. If you could fill this out it would be greatly ap- preciated. We surveyed the children and staff over the past month and have made changes to the programme based on that feedback. All feedback helps us continually improve our programmes. A reminder that we have parent interviews coming up in week 2 of next term on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th July. It would be great to talk to every parent over these 2 days and give you a sound update of where your child/ren is/are tracking. Reciprocally, it would be great for the teacher to hear from your perspective how you feel your child is coping socially and emotionally, coming out of Lockdown. Please click on the HERE to book. If neither of these days suit, please make contact with your child/ren’s teacher to organise another time. The gate drop off and pick ups seem to be working well. People are generally coming in at their correct pick up time, picking up and going. It has made our road cross- ing far less congested and allowed many more people to find parks closer to the school; far safer overall. As like any system, it's as good as the users. Again if you need to see a teacher or access the site for a particular rea- son then please do so. We have our final assembly this Friday at 2:00 pm (please note this has been brought forward 15 minutes) Room 8 is running assembly and term 2 Principal Awards will be handed out. Winter Sports under the school’s umbrella will begin at the end of the first week back next term. All children have been placed in teams. Thank you to those that have put their names forward for coaching or managing; legends and hugely appreciated by so many. Any clarifications please contact our Sport Administrator Marie at; [email protected] This holiday more than ever, we wish children a restful break in readiness for term 3. Thank you all for your support and understanding over these past 3 months. We know there are stresses and challenges out in our community and as a school have tried to react to these in a manner that fits the circumstance or need. Also just a reminder that school due to our teacher only day on Monday 20th July school for the children will begin on Tuesday 21st July. As someone I knew once said; “it is better to be kind than to be right”. Be kind, take care and we look forward to seeing everyone next term. Ngā mihi nui Mike Pettit, Principal

Tena koutou, greetings to everyone,

The end of the term is close and will give children and staff

a chance to recharge for two weeks before heading into

term 3. I am conscious that for our teachers much of the

April holidays was taken up with new learning and prepa-

ration, as we headed into this term under Level 4 Lock-

huge amount of work that I know you have all put in. I also

wish to acknowledge all support staff who rallied behind

our teachers, assisting where possible in the classrooms or

keeping the school cogs turning in so many ways. A top

team of people.

Our children overall have been amazing this term, getting

through their weeks of learning in a positive way. This week

we have deliberately buttoned off some of the formal

Last week our CPS teaching staff participated in a

moderation meeting for writing.

Our moderation meetings, whether whole school or

within syndicates occur regularly and help support our

teachers to:

Unpack and better understand our CPS

Progressions (our curriculum)

plan and prepare future lessons based on

student needs

help teachers to make Overall Teacher

Judgements (OTJ’s).

Our meeting last week was facilitated by Karen Jack

who is our Head of Literacy.

During this meeting, all teachers were asked to bring

samples of their students' work and/or books. Teachers

then set about placing the books in designated areas

that were assigned curriculum levels.

Teachers then proceeded to work through a bus stop

activity where they rotated through the different areas

comparing the students writing and assessing them

against our CPS Progressions. These rotations always

lead to healthy debates as teachers analyse a

students writing and try to identify where they are at,

and what their next steps might be.

Whilst it gives us a chance to look at individual work, it

also provides our Literacy team with an opportunity to

hear and see syndicate and whole school trends that

we can work on internally and through our literacy

contract through Dr Alison Davies and Vision

Education.

Education is a collaborative endeavour for students

and for teachers : )

Many thanks to those who have volunteered to coach

or manage a CPS Sports Team. Your help is greatly

Appreciated. Without you we would not be able to

have so many CPS Sporting superstars playing each

week.

ing/practices. Payments for Miniball, Netball, Rugby

the netball court at school.

GETTING TO KNOW OUR FOUR PEAKS STAFF

Phoebe Pettit - Assistant

Hi my name is Phoebe Pettit and I am an ex pupil of CPS.

I graduated level 3 at Cambridge High School (CHS) last

year. I thoroughly enjoyed and valued the opportunities

during my time there. My favourite subjects were Sports

Science and Outdoor Education. I thrive on leadership

opportunities and have had many experiences to display

this through my sporting achievements and work ethic. In

my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and

friends as they are very important to me! I love doing

many outdoor activities, road tripping and exploring our

beautiful NZ backyard. My plans for this year didn’t work

out as I’m meant be on my Contiki right now in Europe.

Therefore, I am currently working multiple jobs including

Four Peaks. I have worked at Four Peaks for the past 2.5

years. Over this time, I have really enjoyed working with

the children, building relationships and seeing them transi-

tion through their years at CPS.I look forward to continuing

to ensure that the children at Four Peaks have a fun and

adventuress time while in my care.
