Many students are not rightfully aware that there are several institutions in this country, offering specialized postgraduate programmes in various disciplines along with attractive scholarship schemes to those who qualify through GATE.

Almost all Government Engineering colleges specify GATE as a mandatory qualification for admission to post graduate programmes.

A number of PSUs; HPCL, PGCIL, IOCL, BHEL etc. are recruiting through GATE GETs and MTs. Average annual CTC for GATE qualified GETs and MTs is 7-10 lakhs CTC.

• WHAT IS GATE??

GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING - GATE 2014• Each paper contains 65 questions carrying 100 marks.

• GATE 2014 question paper will consist of both MCQs and Numerical type questions ( Numerical type questions do not have any options, but the candidate will have to key in a number as answer).

• All 22 papers will be conducted ONLINE as a Computer Based Test (CBT).

• GATE 2014 will be held during forenoon ( 9:00 am to 12:00 pm) and afternoon (2:00 pm to 5:00 pm) sessions on weekends between 1st February 2014 to 2nd March 2014.

• Out of 65 questions 10 questions, carrying 15 marks will be from General Aptitude (GA) section.

• 72% paper will be from Engineering ( i.e. Qualifying branch) and 13% paper will be from Engineering Mathematics.

• Negative marking:- for 1 mark question 1/3 mark is deducted; and for 2 mark question 2/3 mark is deducted.

OBJECTIVES OF GATE:-

1. Identify, at the National level, meritorious and motivated candidates for admission to Postgraduate Programmes in Engineering or Technology.

2. Serve as a mandatory qualification for the MHRD scholarship.

3. Serve as mandatory requirement for applying in PSUs for recruitment.

An emergence of PSUs as a stable job and career provider has provided relief to a number of aspirants.

All PSU recruitment is through GATE examination.

Experts predict, that companies will be requiring people with an advanced level of skill set for their business analysis and modeling.

This skill set level is possible through a Master’s degree in Engineering from a highly reputed institute/ university.

How to prepare for GATE ?

• Solve ONLY previous GATE papers

• All Subjects are important!! Start with the one in which you have interest. This way you will gather confidence.

• Study standardized books and notes. Also make your own notes- helpful for last minute revision.

• Join a dedicated classroom instruction program.

• Join public forums on GATE; to get a peer group for discussion.
