One Product One PatientEvery year the Pennine team produces over 2 million
Procedure Packs, over 25 million meters of tubing,
manage over 8,000 product codes and work with over
300 suppliers worldwide.
Whilst these numbers are incredibly impressive, our
focus has always been on ensuring that everyone
product we produce is of world class quality and
performs exactly as required to safeguard the
wellbeing of the one patient it is used on.
- That meets stringent quality and regulatory standards.
- That’s made with care, skill and attention.
- Who needs our help.
- Who’s life may depend on it.
- That’s of equal superior quality to the millions produced before and after.
- Who needs consistency throughout their care.
- That is vital to a patient’s wellbeing.
- Who could be one of us.
One product, One patient embodies our guiding
belief with our business partners and their patients.
It reflects our expertise in manufacturing high quality
medical products and emphasises the dedication of
our team members to the on-going support of patient
safety worldwide. Every One product we provide to our
customers is manufactured with that One patient and
their family in mind.
We are proud of the work that our employees
undertake, proud to be supporting healthcare
professionals and proud to pledge our commitment
to saving and enhancing lives, One product and One
patient at a time.
One Product. One Patient.

Latex Position StatementPennine Healthcare is committed to providing
life-sustaining medical products that safely and
effectively meet the needs of our customers and their
patients. As part of that commitment, we provide
products made from appropriate materials, taking
into careful consideration the unique performance
characteristics required, and scientific data available.
LatexWhat is it?
Latex is rubber, it’s a natural substance refined from
the sap of the rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis Natural
rubber is used extensively in many applications and
products, either alone or in combination with other
materials. It has a large stretch ratio and high resilience,
and is extremely waterproof.
What is the Problem with Latex?
Allergic reactions to natural rubber latex are
recognised to be a common and serious concern, with
the highest prevalence found in those with the most
frequent exposure, including healthcare professionals.
Reactions can vary from mild skin irritations to runny
nose & eyes, throat irritation and in severe cases,
anaphylactic shock. Fatalities have been reported.
ConclusionAll Pennine Healthcare products are LATEX FREE.
We do not use Latex in any form as a raw material in
the production of our products. During the production
process, to the best of our knowledge the products
do not come into contact with latex. Our products are
packaged in latex free materials.
Pennine Healthcare have been manufacturing
safe medical devices for over 50 years and remain
committed to maintaining the highest possible safety
standards for its customers and their patients.

DEHP Position StatementPennine Healthcare is committed to providing
life-sustaining medical products that safely and
effectively meet the needs of our customers and their
patients. As part of that commitment, we provide
products made from appropriate materials, taking
into careful consideration the unique performance
characteristics required, and scientific data available.
DEHPWhat is it? Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is one of the most widely
used plastics in medical products. Because this type
of plastic is naturally hard and brittle, chemicals are
added to make it soft and flexible. Medical products
made of PVC are usually softened with a plasticizer
from the family of chemicals known as phthalates. Di(2-
ethylhexyl) phthalate, or DEHP, is the specific phthalate
commonly used in PVC to provide flexibility and
resistance to temperature fluctuations.
What is the Problem with DEHP?
In addition to the characteristics that make it useful
for medical devices, DEHP is also highly lipophilic (fat
soluble). When used in PVC plastic it can leach into
blood or other lipid-containing solutions in contact
with the plastic. This leaching of DEHP into humans via
the solution with which it is in contact may increase the
risk of certain adverse health outcomes. Animal studies
show that exposure to DEHP can damage the liver,
kidneys, lungs, and reproductive system, particularly
the developing testes of prenatal and neonatal males.
Government ActionsThe EU Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly-
Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) report (2015) stated
that the potential for replacement of DEHP in medical
products should be considered.
The Medical & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency
(MHRA) has published guidance “DEHP Phthalates
in Medical Devices” (Sept 2015) which encourages
industry to consider the recommendations of the
SCENIHR report and to seek alternatives to DEHP
where possible. The Medical Devices Directives require
any materials presenting a hazard to be replaced as
soon as alternatives are available.
Government agencies in USA & Canada have
concluded that some patients are likely to be
exposed to potentially unsafe amounts of DEHP while
receiving medical care and have recommended using
alternatives. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) has issued an FDA Safety Assessment and a
Public Health Notification urging health care providers
to use alternatives.
ConclusionPennine Healthcare have removed DHEP from all of the
medical products it manufacturers. Pennine Healthcare
have been manufacturing safe medical devices for over
50 years and remain committed to maintaining the
highest possible safety standards for its customers and
their patients.
