Design, off-design and transient simulation of gas turbines including SAS and thermal effects
Gas Turbine Performance Simulation
Performance simulation
Off-design calculations
User defined or standard maps scaled to cycle reference point
Modeling of heat transfer and SAS with main gas path
Analysis of the interaction between the core engine and accessories
Simulation of gas turbine deterioration and failures (e.g. suspension of cooling
flow, flame out, …)

SAS connection ports
• can be defined at rot. (inner) or
stationary parts (outer).
(transition between the ref.
frames is also possible)

Secondary Air System
• Interaction of bleed/cooling flows
and main gas path performance
Heat transfer link
Flow splitter
HEAT TRANSFER AND SECONARY AIR SYSTEM
Flexibility for combinations of the secondary air system
and thermal network due to object orientated structure
Transient simulation to model thermal response during
fast start and load changes
Bleed flow can be either user specified or it can be a
simulation result depending on the geometry and back-
pressure of the turbine
Components of the secondary air system:
• Splitters (co- and crossflow)
• Mixers
• Valves
• Ducts
• Seals
• Orifices
Heat transfer simulation:
• Convection, conduction and radiation among components and/or with ambient
• Convection based on Nusselt-correlations (default equations or user-defined)
• Build complex thermal networks interacting with the gas path and SAS
