The Good Directions story begins in 1982

when John Lodato decided to expand his

regionally renowned relics and restoration

business - United Housewrecking - to establish

a company devoted to enhancing the home

with affordable, uniquely crafted products

that would reflect a homeowner's particular

style and personality. Combining his expertise

in historical design with his son Michael's

background in manufacturing and materials,

the two created Good Directions.

They began with a line of weathervanes and

cupolas, becoming the first in their industry

to implement wide-scale production and

design. Sticklers for quality and customer

service, Good Directions sought out the

finest artists and artisans to create products

that were not only functional but beautiful,

soon gaining a reputation for the finest

designs in the industry.

Today, with Michael at the helm, Good

Directions has expanded its line to include a

wide range of decorative yet functional

products for home and garden, including

popular FireDomes™, rain chains and

garden weathervanes. The company

continues to attract innovative artists and

Cupolas and weathervanes make great-looking additions to homes and other buildings.Although most of our cupolas are purchased as decorative accents, they are also functionaland can be used for ventilation. Take a few moments to review the information presentedhere to help your customer select the right cupola.

Cupola Notes

• All cupolas come in three sections - roof, middle and base - for easy installation and delivery.

• Made from solid PVC vinyl or cypress andpine veneer wood.

• Topped with 16-ounce 24-gauge copper.• Detailed installation guide included with every cupola.• All vinyl cupolas can be painted.• All wood cupolas can be painted or stained.• Cupola size is derived from the measurement of the

roof’s edge.• Cupolas come weathervane-ready with mounting hardware

Extension Bases

Vinyl and Wood Cupolas: Our Vinyl and Wood Cupolas are designed for a roof pitch up to a10” rise per foot (known as “10/12 pitch”); most roofs are not steeper than this. However, ifthe roof pitch is steeper than a 10/12 pitch, you will need to include an extension basewith your cupola order (see price list for extension base information). It is important thatyou order your extension base (if needed) at the same time you order your cupola.

Selecting Cupola Size

In selecting the right size cupola for a building, a good rule of thumb is: 1.5 inches of cupolafor every foot of unbroken roof line. The key here is the unbroken roof line measurement (seecharts below). For example: if a roof section measures 24 feet, the minimum cupola sizeshould be approximately 36 inches square. For a more dramatic effect, or if a cupola largerthan 60 inches square is needed, consider using two cupolas on the roof line. When usingmore than one cupola per roof line, a good rule of thumb is one inch of cupola for everyfoot of unbroken roof line (see chart below). For example: if a roof section measures 24 feet,the minimum size of each cupola should be approximately 24 inches square.
