SomeofGann'smostspecificdiscussionsoffinancialastrologyappearinprivatelettershewrotetohisclients.Thereasonforthisseemstobethenegativeviewofspeculationwhichoccurredintheearly1930s.Afterthestockmarketcrashof1929andtheelectionofPresidentFranklinD.Rooseveltin1932,thegovernmentstartedtopassregulationsandtaxlawstoreducegamblingandspeculationinthestockmarket.Itismyopinionthattheregulationsandtaxlawsofthe1930sarewhatcausedGanntorewritehisadvancedcoursesin1936andsellthemascorrespondencecourses.ThisallowedGanntoincreasethesalesofhiscoursesandotherfinancialserviceswhilereducinghisincomefromshorttermspeculationwhichwasbeingpenalizedbythenewtaxlaws.WhenGannconvertedhisadvancedcoursesintocorrespondencecoursesin1936,heapparentlyremovedalloftheopenlydiscussedastrologyideas.TomyknowledgenoneofthecoursematerialGannusedathisseminarsinthe1920sstillexists.Gann'sadvancedcoursematerialfromtheearly1930sismuchmore
