Our group have chosen to design a Games Gallery,This is due to all our Degree Paths.

AIM•Create a gallery that appeals to all ages

•For it to be informative but interactive

•For it to be unique from what is normally expected of a gallery

Page 2: Game Gallery - Project

I looked at this building because I think that it brilliantly exhibits one of the quality's that is required for our museum. The relationship between the materials used in creating the structure and the actual function of the site. This particular building is a mass camp used for creating costumes for Luton's annual carnival which are often created using materials such as iron sheet and bamboo this subtly coincides with the buildings materials which also reflect the materials used to create carnival costumes .

Material Research

Page 3: Game Gallery - Project

Sharp bold shapes and lack of symmetry define the buildings futuristic characteristics

Interesting glass bridge connecting to another site

Reasearch: Denver art museum

Plan view

The plan of the building again highlights the designs randomness in shape.

Large spaces centred around exhibits

A few spacesWith crowd seating

Initial Design Ideas

Attempt to recreate the gaming theme through the buildings façade by using Tetris blocks

From the plan view it resembles the T symbol in Tetris and from the side the L and Z symbol slotted together

Development

I added glass and a colour scheme to the design in attempts to add to its aesthetics and try to bring a futuristic theme to the exterior

However I still thought design was lacking

Fortunately when discussing this with the other exterior designer in our group he had a design which matched mine and we decided to combined them

Page 8: Game Gallery - Project

Final Design

We also experimented with the surrounding landscape

Initial Design

Plan View

This design was greatly influenced by the randomness of shape of the Denver art museum

I attempted to re create a futuristic theme by creating a design with no symmetry and a random shape alike the Denver museum

Initial Design Ideas

Page 12: Game Gallery - Project

Development

The first addition I made were to add windows

I widened this block in attempts to create more open space for the exhibition

I also tilted the roof of the left tower block

Page 13: Game Gallery - Project

Final Design

I decided to add a glass bridge it was inspired by the gallery in Denver

I connected the bridge to a new right wing which has a large amount of open space perfect for the gallery rooms

I also decided to put a slant on the new wing to add a bit of sharpness to the façade in attempts to reach the target futuristic aesthetic

Secondary research was done by looking in the ‘Metric Handbook’, these diagrams show how to deal with the essentials in a Museum/ Gallery.

Through this research I have learnt how to deal with:-Lighting-Layout-Planning-Shape-Space

Page 15: Game Gallery - Project

The Morumbi Residence by Drucker Arquitetura

The complex structure of this design over shadows the simplicity of the shapes

Greater London Authority Building by Foster and Partners

The movement for this building is post modern, and it gave the idea circular shape

for design, I was attracted to the idea of using the glass in that motion.

Page 16: Game Gallery - Project

Concept 3 (Shown Below) is a building I’ve

designed which was inspired by my research and other post modern

buildings.

Concept 2 (Shown Above) was designed with a vision for entertainment

due to our purpose.

Concept 1 (Shown Below) was also inspired by my research however the shape was made in

order to match our ‘Interior Designer, Danny’s’ Layout.

Page 17: Game Gallery - Project

This concept was developed in order match a floor plan that was already designed, however the style and aesthetics were created for space and to create a tour through the evolution of gaming.

Page 18: Game Gallery - Project

This design was made to give an experience to all gamers, the circular shape was made in order to guide the potential audience

around through the ages of games from how they were first developed to the age of how games are advanced today. The

upper terraced was to be used as a café.

Page 19: Game Gallery - Project

This concept was inspired by post modern buildings, its exterior shape was developed through forming together different shapes.

The exterior appearance were followed by the aesthetics of certain buildings.

Page 20: Game Gallery - Project

This design was taken through many development stages, and this final part is a

chosen piece for our final design.

Page 21: Game Gallery - Project

Michael and I decided to join our designs, because we liked both designs as well as both concepts helped to

share the how we contributed on the design.

Page 22: Game Gallery - Project

This is the final product of what we’ve developed for our Games Gallery, this design show the movement of being post modern and also gives an exciting

atmosphere.

Now over to James!

Games Research

My job was to find games to be the content of the Games Gallery

First started in week 3

Finished in week 15

Did research into the history of games

Page 25: Game Gallery - Project

Website Part 1

Originally thought about creating a database but chose a website instead.

I started to research basic web design

I chose to use Weebly (www.weebly.com) to create my website

Page 26: Game Gallery - Project

Website pt 2

After choosing Weebly I started to create my website.

I created one web page per decade

Also I created a contact us and employment page

Here is a picture of my website

(James’s) Conclusion

While I didn’t design the gallery I did help finding out what could go inside it.

I hope that my contribution has been useful and helpful

So my individual part of the project was to work on the interior of the building.

This meant that I had to research into things such as:• Doors• Windows• Lighting• Basic materials• Rooms• Stairs• Space• Themes

Page 31: Game Gallery - Project

I made a questionnaire for the group asking people basic questions to benefit the group.

I then analysed the questionnaire and explained the benefits and drawbacks from the results.

We then had to slightly alter our ideas to fit the results

Page 32: Game Gallery - Project

I then made slide show on the different design ideas.In I displayed:• Window types• Door types• Themes• Rooms• Lighting.

Doing this I gained a lot of ideas of what could be used for our gallery.

The last thing I did is actually create my own my own interior design ideas for the building.

I made sure that each one of my designs were different but kept the same theme.
