An action game is where the player takes

control of a avatar to work through a

series of challenges that can be, hand eye

coordination, physical challenges and

reaction time, these types of games are

very popular. The player will use the

avatar to adventure through a number of

levels in which the player will then in-

side of these levels work through chal-

lenges, Collect items, And of course

Fight Villains/ Enemies .

Role playing Game

Role playing games are where the

player takes control of an avatar

creating that avatars looks and per-

sonality, these types of games let the

player emerge themselves into the

game letting them affect the world

around them in either subtle or ma-

jor ways, As well as this the role

play genre lets the player into an

open world where the player can

choose what he or she does, thus

making the illusion that the player is

in a “another world”.

Society

Benefits

One benefit of gaming is that you can actually use it has a job, you can get paid

money to win tournaments and lan parties, as well as being paid for some Beta

Testing.

Secondly you will also gain more skills in team work and socializing if you

play on certain games and head to the tournaments which could then lead to a

boost in your confidence as you will end up gaining more friends.

As well as this you can also gain some educational insight, as by talking to

other gamers or by getting into games you may end up wanting to become a

game designer which will then lead you down the road to college and then to

university.

Concerns

Depending on the person the game can make that person become addicted to it

which can cause a number of different health issues such as poor eyesight, As

well as this another concern comes to mind, a few people become social reclu-

sions once they become addicted to games making it next to impossible for

them to leave there house, Within this another concern arises which is as you

find yourself unwilling to leave the house you may end up starting to gain

weight and becoming more unhealthy as time goes by which in turn links to

another concern which is self confidence

Individual

Benefits

The benefits for the individual are the same as social benefits, this is because

while a group may benefit from a game the individual from that group will get

exactly the same which is confidence, new abilities, and understanding.

Concerns

This again is the same as the social concerns however there are a few that are

specific to the individual the first is the loss of friends, this can be because you

would rather spend time on a game then be with your friends resulting in them

wanting nothing to do with you, second ally you may start to believe the game

is in fact real life which can cause to a number of different problems one of

which thinking that you can not in fact die.

are embedded inside the controller however among these you can also have a

gaming chair that will vibrate and change colours deepening on what is happen-

ing inside of the game

the Kinect lets your entire body be the controller and will follow you around

the room as you play the game getting you more involved as every slight action

you make has an affect on the game.

units you can also have strategy

games where a player needs to

work through a series of chal-

to accomplish victory, An exam-

ple of these games are Dawn of

war in which the player takes

control of an army and its build-

ings to improve the ranks, create

new units and then either conquer

the map cleansing it of enemas or capturing key locations/ Flags.

Adventure

Adventure games are where

playing games, As well as this it is current ally being argued that console gam-

ers will never be as fast as computer gamers.

around giving the players a feel of

reality , The main simulations

games are where the layer takes

control of a certain device such as

a plane in which the player will

then learn how to fly that plane.

3D modeling

In this section the team will start to deiced on what type of modeling they want

to have inside of the game, what they need to have in 3D what they can have

simply in 2D such as backgrounds.#

Networking/online

The team will deiced how they are going to make or if they want the game to

run online, how many servers they will need, how they can achieve an optimum

output, the security on the networks, the stability on them.

Beta

Beta testing is where the company will invite gamers to play the game before it

is released into the public domain, some companies will actually pay people to

do this others will give it out for free but only for an x amount of people, With

this the programmers will be able to see if they have any bugs in the game or if

they need to improve anything.

Collision detecting

Collision detecting is where the programs will enable the game to understand

what will happen if a object hits another, and what the result would bee, for

example if a car went into a lamppost on the game would the lamppost be

dented, would the front of the car be dented.

Graphics processor

Here the team will determine what specifications the game will need to make it

run smoothly.

Consol compatibility

The team would here, decided on what console the game will be able to be

played on making sure that the ones they have chosen will be able to play this

game fully and without problems.

Programming

This section will be done in separate teams in which the teams will take a spe-

cific part of the game to program, An example of this would be one program-

mer may simply work on the character profile making the character 3D.

Research

Research has to be done when in the design phase so that you will be able to

look at other games of your genre to understand more of your ideas, as well as

this you will need to research into historical events if your game revolves

around the events in time.

Storyboard

You need to create a story board in order to have a outline of the way you want

your game to go ahead, the main story line or separate character story lines

Moodboard

The Moodboard allows you to create a board to set the mood of the game, this

includes images that reflect your game colours that will set the mood of the

game, any text that you will want.

Brainstorm

The brainstorm is the first thing you will ever do when creating or designing a

game, the brainstorm will allow you to put down every idea and expand on

them to enable you to fully investigate your idea.

Script

The script is used once the game storyline has been finalized, this script has

everything from the characters talking to each other, to the characters random

slogans being written down.

Ga me De ve lo p men t Page 9

Character/Language

This is where you will need to start thinking of every character you will have in

the game, where those characters will originate from, what type of people will

they be, will they have a specific accent will they speak only in the language

the game is being made in or will they speak there own language from where

that character originated from.

Genres

Genres are a very important part of your design, in this section you will pick

the main genre your game will follow which will help with the other aspects of

the design, within this you will also begin to think of any sub categories the

game may fall into.

Storyline

The storyline will correspond with the script you have written, this Is where the

group will decided on the outcome and beginning of the game, how the avatar

comes from one point to another going through all the different stages.

Soundtrack/Audio

Here is where you will choose what type of sounds you want in your game,

where the sounds will be played, will there be a certain part where a melody

plays, what type of melody will it be, As well as this you will start to think of

the voice actors you wish for the characters.
