TCU GAME NOTES• Texas has won 14 consecutive home games against the Horned

Frogs.• UT has won 12 of the last 13 and 16 of the last 18 meetings in

the series against TCU.• Th e Longhorns forced 19 turnovers and held TCU to 54 points

BUILDING A RESUME• Texas sports a 2-1 mark against AP Top 10 teams this season

with wins against No. 3 North Carolina (84-82 on Dec. 12) at home and at No. 6 West Virginia (56-49 on Jan. 20).

IMPRESSIVE ROAD VICTORY AT WVU • With its 56-49 victory at No. 6/7 West Virginia (Jan. 20), UT

recorded its fi rst true road win against an AP Top 10 opponent since a 74-63 win at No. 2 Kansas on Jan. 22, 2011.

• Th e Longhorns posted their fi rst true road win against an AP Top 25 opponent since a 74-60 victory at No. 24 Baylor on Jan. 25, 2014.

• West Virginia entered the game with an 8-0 home record and a +33.5 scoring margin in home games (including a 74-63 win against then-No. 1 Kansas). WVU also entered the contest averaging 91.1 points per game at home.

• WVU entered the game leading the nation (Division I) in steals (11.4 per game) and turnovers forced (20.7 per game). West Virginia registered only 3 steals and 8 forced turnovers in Wednesday’s game. the closing seconds for the second time in a three-game span. In both contests, UT’s opponent in both games made a basket to tie the score with under 10 seconds remaining.

• Javan Felix hit a jumper as time expired to beat No. 3/3 North Carolina 84-82 at home on Dec. 12.

• Isaiah Taylor went coast-to-coast and hit a running fl oater high off the glass with 1.1 seconds left for the victory at Stanford (Dec. 19).

YEAR ONE OF THE SHAKA SMART ERA• Shaka Smart was introduced as the 24th head basketball

coach at Th e University of Texas on April 3, 2015.• Th e 38-year-old Smart spent the previous six seasons at

Virginia Commonwealth University, leading the Rams to an overall record of 163-56 (.744) and fi ve NCAA Tournament appearances including the 2011 Final Four.

UT INKS PAIR DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD James Banks (Decatur, Ga.) and Jacob Young (Houston, Texas) signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball next season at The University of Texas during the early signing period. The duo will join the Longhorns for the 2016-17 season.

• Banks (6-10, 235), a center from La Lumiere (pronounced: Lah-loo-mair) School (La Porte, Ind.) who plays under head coach Shane Heirman, is ranked as the No. 45 overall prospect in the nation by Scout.com and the No. 56 overall and sixth-ranked center in the nation by ESPN. He averaged 23 points and 14 rebounds per game in his junior season while playing for Mount Vernon Presbyterian School (Atlanta, Ga.).

• Young (6-1, 175), a guard from Houston’s Yates High School who plays under head coach Greg Wise, is ranked as the No. 85 overall prospect and 13th-best shooting guard in the nation by Scout.com and the No. 91 overall recruit by Rivals.com. He earned class 5A all-state honors from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) as a junior while leading Yates to an 18-9 overall record and a trip to the regional semifi nals of the state tournament. In his sophomore year, Young helped pace Yates to a 24-7 mark and a trip to the Class 4A state championship game.

NAVY SEAL TEAM TRAINING • Aft er using Navy SEAL training for his fi nal four years at VCU,

Shaka Smart and strength/conditioning coach Daniel Roose brought the program to Texas.

• All players and members of the UT coaching and support staff took part in a three-day training session in late September.

• Th e goals of the training session were to improve communication, leadership and team-building.

• John McGuire, who spent 10 years as a Navy SEAL and the past 17 years organizing training sessions incorporating some of the same rugged regimens, led the training.

SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM • Texas Basketball has received public recognition awards for its

multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) in each of the last six years (2010-15). Th e awards are given to teams scoring in the Top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sport. UT has earned a perfect 1,000 score in each of the last six multi-year APR reports. In addition, Men’s Basketball has posted perfect 1,000 APR single-year scores in EVERY season dating back to 2005-06 (nine straight years).

• Six Texas players earned a spot on the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball Team. UT’s fi ve fi rst-team selections were the top mark in the conference. Texas and West Virginia paced the league with six total selections. Demarcus Holland, Prince Ibeh, Connor Lammert, Tarale Murry and Isaiah Taylor were named to the First Team, while Kendal Yancy was selected to the Second Team.

THREE-POINT STREAK The last time Texas did not convert a three-pointer in a contest came on Dec. 18, 1990, in an 87-84 overtime victory at UC-Santa Barbara. The Horns were 0-of-2 from beyond the arc on that day. The Longhorns enter Saturday’s contest having hit at least one 3-pointer in 845 consecutive games. In fact, UT has converted at least one three-pointer in 973 of 979 games since the trey was introduced prior to the 1986-87 season. The Horns have failed to attempt at least one three-pointer just one time in school history (Feb. 24, 1988; at TCU, 69-55 win).

OFF THE COURT WITH THE HORNS

• Shaquille Cleare’s father, Brian, played basketball at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (Chickasha, Okla.). He wears jersey No. 32 to honor his father, who also wore No. 32 during his collegiate playing days. Cleare was high school teammates with Isaiah Taylor at Th e Village School (Houston), when Cleare was a senior and Taylor was a junior.

• Eric Davis’ father, Eric Sr., played football at Saginaw Valley College (1992-94). His uncle, Tony Davis, played basketball at the University of Minnesota.

• Javan Felix is oldest of four children (has three younger sisters). Th e Felix family was forced to relocate to Atlanta for four months while Javan was in sixth grade due to Hurricane Katrina (August 2005). Th e family was able to return to New Orleans in January 2006. Felix has interest in becoming an NBA General Manager following his playing career.

• Demarcus Holland moved to Dallas from Tyler when he was in the second grade. He has one older brother, Derrick, Jr., and three younger brothers, Craig, Desmond and Devon.

• Prince Ibeh was born in London and lived there for his fi rst fi ve years. He moved with his family to Amarillo, Texas at age fi ve and lived there until he was 10 years old. Th e family then moved to Dallas when Prince was 10. His parents (Francis and Charity) lived in Mbaise, Nigeria before moving to London in 1987. Prince’s middle name is Chinenye (pronounced KEN-yay). Th e name in Nigerian means “god’s gift .” Prince has three older brothers and one younger sister.

• Connor Lammert has an older brother, Clark, who played basketball at Texas Tech (2012-15). His father, Dean Lammert, played basketball at Texas A&I University (now called Texas A&M University-Kingsville) from 1980-83. His mother, the former Christi Scherrey, played volleyball at Texas A&I University from 1979-82.

• Tevin Mack’s brother, Jermaine Washington, played basketball for two seasons at the University of Nevada (2003-05). In Washington’s senior year, Nevada defeated Texas in the 2005 NCAA First Round.

• Kerwin Roach’s father, Kerwin Sr., played basketball at Texas Southern University. Kerwin is an elite triple jumper who plans to compete for Texas in the outdoor season. He won back-to-back 5A state championships in the triple jump for North Shore HS as a junior (2014) and senior (2015). Roach also set a Nike Clyde Littlefi eld Texas Relays meet record with a jump of 50-8.00 (15.44 meters) in April 2015 on the UT campus.

• Isaiah Taylor’s uncle, Terrell Lowery, played basketball at Loyola Marymount (1989-92). As a sophomore on the 1990 LMU squad that advanced to the “Elite Eight” in the NCAA Tournament, Lowery also played professional baseball, including stints with the Chicago Cubs (1997-98), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (1999) and the San Francisco Giants (2000).

• Kendal Yancy’s brother, Terrel Harris, played basketball at Oklahoma State and went on to play professionally with the Miami Heat (2011-2013) and New Orleans Hornets.
