All-America Candidate Eric Ebron Sets School Marks• All-America candidate Eric Ebron leads the team

with 50 catches for 774 yards and has three touch-downs. His catches and yards are a single-season school record, bettering the marks he set last year.

• He also holds the UNC record for career catches (100) and receiving yards (1,606) by a tight end.

• Ebron is ranked as the No. 12 overall player on ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper’s Big Board. He is No. 14 on ESPN’s Todd McShay’s list. Both have him as the top tight end in the country.

• Ebron had three catches for 73 yards, including a 58-yarder, in the win at Pittsburgh. He left the game in the second half with a shoulder injury, but later returned and caught a pass.

• Ebron made a season-low two catches against Virginia, but those catches established the UNC career record for catches by a tight end with 96. He came into the game tied with Zack Pianalto, who caught 94 from 2007-10.

• The last time a tight end led Carolina in recep-tions in a season was Mike Chatham with 20 in 1980. The only tight ends to ever lead the Tar Heels in receptions were Chatham (1979, 1980), Bob Loomis (1978), Brooks Williams (1977) and Tony Blanchard (1969).

• Ebron was named a first-team midseason All-America by Phil Steele and a second-team pick by SI.com and CBSsports.com.

• Ebron hauled in a career-high eight catches for a career-high 199 yards and his third touchdown of the season in Carolina’s 27-23 loss to No. 10 Miami to earn Mackey Award national tight end of the week honors. His 199 yards are a single-game UNC record for receiving yards by a tight end and the sixth-most by any Carolina player. The previous mark was 144 yards, set by Tony Blanchard against Wake Forest in 1968. Ebron scored on a 71-yard catch and run in the first quarter, his eighth career touchdown.

• Ebron leads all ACC tight ends in both receptions per game (4.5) and yards receiving per game (70.4). In the overall ACC rankings, he is eighth in receptions per game and 10th in receiving yards per game.

• Nationally, Ebron is ranked second among tight ends in receiving yards per game (70.4) and second in receptions per game (4.5) behind only Texas Tech’s Jace Amaro.

• Ebron caught six passes for 108 yards and a touchdown against Georgia Tech. The touchdown, a one-handed 19-yard reception in the second quar-ter, was featured on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays.

• Ebron finished with six catches for 70 yards and a touchdown at Virginia Tech. His scoring grab was a spectacular catch in traffic in the second quarter.

• Ebron caught a career-high nine passes for 70 yards (his previous high was eight against Miami) in the win at NC State.

• Ebron caught four passes for 67 yards and had two rushing attempts for seven yards against Boston College. Those were the first rushing attempts of his collegiate career.

• Ebron injured his shoulder at Pitt and saw lim-ited time the following week vs. ODU.

It was the Tar Heels’ fifth straight victory, matching the team’s longest win streak since 2001. The Tar Heels scored a school-record 11 touchdowns and scored in a variety of ways – a punt return for a touchdown, a kick-off return for a touchdown, three rushing touchdowns and five passing touchdowns, including a flea-flicker for the first score of the game. Sophomore quarter-back Marquise Williams completed 20 of 27 attempts for 409 yards and five touchdowns.

Duke won at Wake Forest, 28-21, rallying from an early 14-0 deficit. Quarterback Anthony Boone threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns and also led the Blue Devils with 57 yards rushing.

A Carolina Turnaround• Carolina began the year 1-5, but has won five

straight and is now bowl eligible at 6-5. It is the biggest in-season turnaround of 2013 and the biggest turn-around in UNC history.

• Carolina has not closed the regular season with a six game win streak since 1972 when the Tar Heels won seven straight. UNC advanced to the Sun Bowl that season and won its eighth in a row with a 32-28 victory over Texas Tech.

• Since the regular season expanded to 12 games in 2006, only five teams that began the season 1-5 went on to make a bowl game. Only one – Rutgers in 2008 – came from a power conference.

Year Team Final Record Bowl Result2012 Rice 7-6 Won2008 Florida Atlantic 7-6 Won2008 Rutgers 8-5 Won2007 UL-Monroe 6-6 Not selected2006 Rice 7-6 Lost2013 UNC 6-5* TBD*Carolina has two games remaining

• The Tar Heels’ most recent turnaround is similar to the 2001 season when the team started 0-3 only to win five straight and finish 8-5 after a win over Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

A Win Over Duke Would...• Be Carolina’s sixth-straight victory, which would be

the Tar Heels’ longest winning steak since 1997. The Tar Heels’ current five-game win streak equals the longest win streak since 2001.

• Vault the Tar Heels into a tie for the Coastal Division title for the second consecutive season.• Improve the Tar Heels to 7-5 overall, 5-3 in ACC action. • Be Carolina’s 22nd win in the last 24 games against Duke (although the 2008 and 2009 wins were later

vacated). • Be Carolina’s first win over a ranked team since a 37-35 win at Florida State in 2010. It would be Carolina’s

first win over a ranked team at home since a 33-24 victory over No. 12 Miami in 2009. That win was later vacated.

Battle For the Victory Bell• The winner of Saturday’s game will receive the coveted Victory Bell, which has been presented annually to

the winner of the Carolina-Duke football game since the 1940s. A large bell on wheels, this prize was originated by former Tar Heel cheerleader Norm Sper. The winner is allowed to paint the frame of the bell its team color. Carolina has owned the bell for 21 of the last 23 seasons.

59-36-4 advantage. • Carolina has had a player rush for 100 yards or more on 38 occasions vs. Duke, including eight of the last

nine meetings. The last time a Carolina player did not rush for 100 yards was in 2006. 2012: Giovani Bernard rushed for 143 yards on 24 carries in a 33-30 loss in Durham. 2011: Bernard had a then career-high 165 yards and a touchdown in a 37-21 victory. 2010: Anthony Elzy rushed for 116 yards in a 24-19 victory in Durham. 2009: Ryan Houston ran for 164 yards on 37 carries in a 19-6 win. 2008: Shaun Draughn rushed for 110 yards in a 28-20 victory. 2007: Greg Little rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime.

touchdown pass to Jamison Crowder on fourth down with 13 seconds left in the game.• Carolina linebacker Jeff Schoettmer’s father, Steve, played linebacker at Duke (lettered in 1974-75). After

Jeff was offered the opportunity to walk on at Carolina, Schoettmer bought his dad a navy-blue UNC shirt. “He still won’t wear Carolina blue.”

Against Ranked Teams• Duke enters the game ranked 24th in the country in both the AP and Coaches’ polls. Carolina’s last win

against a ranked team was at No. 24 Florida State, 37-35, in 2010. The Tar Heels have lost seven straight to ranked teams, including this year at No. 6 South Carolina on Aug. 29 and vs. No. 10 Miami on Oct. 26.

• The last time Carolina faced a ranked Duke squad came in 1994 and the Tar Heels defeated the No. 24 Blue Devils, 41-40, in Durham. The last time Duke brought a ranked team to Chapel Hill, the No. 25 Blue Devils won 41-0 under head coach Steve Spurrier.

Senior Class Honored In Pregame• Sixteen North Carolina seniors will be honored prior to Saturday’s game vs. Duke. Those seniors are: OL

Nick Appel, TB A.J. Blue, S Tre Boston, DB Josh Broach, OG David Collins, OT James Hurst, DT Tim Jackson, PK Cody Johnson, DS Mack Lloyd, DE Kareem Martin, WR Darien McNeill, DL Alec Petrocelli, CB Jabari Price, QB Bryn Renner, DB Terry Shankle and WR Sean Tapley.

Ebron To Enter 2014 NFL DraftNorth Carolina junior tight end Eric Ebron has elected to forego his final year of eligibility and enter the 2014

NFL Draft following UNC’s bowl game. A native of Greensboro, N.C., Ebron leads the Tar Heels with 50 recep-tions for 774 yards and has three touchdowns.

“I’ve had a great time in Chapel Hill and I appreciate everything Coach Fedora and the coaching staff has done for me,” said Ebron. “Coming to Carolina allowed me to develop as both a person and a football player. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I look forward to finishing the season with my teammates and then moving on to the next level.”

Ebron holds the UNC single-season and career records for catches and receiving yards by a tight end. Enter-ing Saturday’s regular-season finale vs. Duke, he has 100 career catches for 1,606 yards.

Ebron is ranked as the No. 12 overall player on ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper’s Big Board. He is ranked No. 14 by ESPN’s Todd McShay. Both analysts have him as the top tight end in the country.

Ebron is a semifinalist for the John Mackey Award, which is presented to the nation’s top tight end. He had his best game of the season in Carolina’s ESPN Thursday night loss to Miami when he hauled in a career-high eight catches for a career-high 199 yards. He was named the Mackey Award national tight end of the week and his 199 yards are a single-game UNC record for receiving yards by a tight end and the sixth-most by any Carolina player.

Jonathan Cooper Jersey To Be HonoredNorth Carolina’s Jonathan Cooper will officially have his jersey honored Saturday at the Duke game. Cooper

qualified for recognition within Kenan Stadium after earning consensus first-team All-Amercia honors last fall. A native of Wilmington, N.C., Cooper started a Tar Heel record 48 games. As a senior, he led Carolina to an

8-4 record and a tie for first place in the ACC Coastal Division. He earned first-team All-America honors from Walter Camp, FWAA, AFCA, AP, ESPN.com, SI, Phil Steele, NBC.com and CBSsports.com. Cooper earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2012 and second-team all-league accolades in 2010 and 2011.

Cooper won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which is presented to the best offensive lineman in the ACC. He was

Carolina’s first Jacobs recipient in 25 years. He also was one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top interior lineman. He anchored an offensive line that helped Carolina set single-season scoring, passing yardage and total offense school records.

The Arizona Cardinals selected Cooper with the seventh pick in the first round in the 2013 NFL Draft. He earned an ACC Postgraduate Honorary Scholarship and won UNC’s Jim Tatum Award, which is presented to the athlete who performed with distinction in his or her sport and contributed to the University through construc-tive participation in co-curricular activities.

Cooper, Cannizzaro To Be Presented Patterson Medal• Jonathan Cooper and women’s lacrosse student-athlete Kara Cannizzaro will be presented with the Patter-

son Medal during Saturday’s game vs. Duke. The Patterson medal is the most prestigious athletic department award presented at UNC. Cooper was a consensus first-team All-America last year and helped lead the Tar Heels to an 8-4 record and a tie for the Coastal Division title. Cannizzaro led the Tar Heels to the school’s first NCAA championship in women’s lacrosse.

Youth Movement• Of Carolina’s 47 touchdowns this season, 39 have been scored by either true freshmen or sophomores.

Sophomores have accounted for 20, followed by true freshmen with 19, juniors with five and seniors with three.

• The true freshmen that have scored this year are wide receiver Ryan Switzer (7), tailback T.J. Logan (5), wide receiver Bug Howard (4), tailback Khris Francis (2) and safety Dominique Green (1).

• Carolina’s last 23 touchdowns have been scored by either freshmen or sophomores. Bryn Renner’s 1-yard run at NC State was the last touchdown scored by an upperclassman.

Playing At Kenan Stadium• North Carolina is 16-4 at Kenan Stadium since 2011 (6-1 in 2011, 6-1 in 2012, 4-2 in 2013). The Tar Heels

are 10-3 at Kenan Stadium under Larry Fedora with wins over Virginia Tech, NC State, Maryland, Elon, Idaho, ECU, MTSU, Boston College, Virginia and ODU. The losses were to Georgia Tech (2012), East Carolina (2013) and Miami (2013).

• Under Larry Fedora, Carolina is averaging 45.7 points at Kenan Stadium.• Carlina closes the season against ODU and Duke at Kenan Stadium. It is the first time Carolina has ended

the season with consecutive home games since 2001.

Another Early StartSaturday’s game vs. Duke is the ninth game (out of 12) this season that has started at noon or 12:30

p.m. The Tar Heels have been selected as the ACC Game of the Week on the ACC Network a league-high six times. Nine of 10 Saturday games have been selected for noon or 12:30 p.m. The Tar Heels played two ESPN Thursday night games this season that started at 6 p.m. (South Carolina) and 7:45 p.m. (Miami).

Bowl EligibleWith the win over ODU, Carolina is now bowl eligible and will return to the postseason for the first time

since 2011. Last season, Carolina went 8-4 and tied for the Coastal Division title, but could not compete in a bowl due to NCAA sanctions. Carolina went to four consecutive bowl games from 2007-11. The most recent bowl appearance was under interim head coach Everett Withers at the 2011 Advocare V100 Bowl in Shreveport, La. The Tar Heels lost that game, 41-24, to Missouri.

Martin Named Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week after Pitt PerformanceKareem Martin was named The Walter Camp Football Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week

for his standout performance at Pitt on Nov. 16. The award, presented by Generation UCAN, is selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation. Martin recorded eight tackles, 3.5 quarterback sacks and forced two fumbles (recovering one) as the Tar Heels defeated Pittsburgh, 34-27. Martin is the second UNC player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors, joining former Tar Heel defensive back Kendric Burney (Nov. 15, 2009).

Academic All-Stars: Program Honors Elementary School StudentsThe University of North Carolina athletic department has partnered with elementary schools across the

state to recognize students that exhibit exceptional academic aptitude and character. The newly created Academic All-Stars program invited participating elementary schools to select two

outstanding students in each grade (total of 10-12 per school) to be recognized at a Carolina football game for their academic success. Each of the selected students received four tickets to either the Old Dominion (Nov. 23) or Duke (Nov. 30) home football game. The students will receive a certificate to honor their accomplish-ments and will be publicly recognized during the game.

“This is an exciting initiative started by our Student-Athlete Development program and we’ve had a tremen-dous response,” said UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham. “We hope to provide a memorable experi-

2 - Carolina had two players earn midseason All-America honors – tight end Eric Ebron and of-fensive tackle James Hurst. Ebron was a first-team pick by Phil Steele and a second-team selection by SI.com and CBSsports.com. Hurst was a first-team pick by Yahoo Sports’ Dr. Saturday.

2 - Number of passing touchdowns this season by wide receiver Quinshad Davis. Davis completed a 32-yard scoring pass to T.J. Thorpe against ECU and a 29-yard TD strike to Marquise Williams against Virginia.

3 - Three non-quarterbacks have completed passes this season - WR Quinshad Davis (2 for 2 for 61 yards and two touchdowns), WR Ryan Switzer (1 for 1 for 59 yards and a TD) and TB A.J. Blue (1 for 1 for 23 yards).

4 - Freshman Ryan Switzer is the only player in the country with three punt return touchdowns.

10 - Bryn Renner passed for 300 yards 10 times in his career, the most of any quarterback in UNC history.

37 - After making eight catches in the first three games this season, sophomore Quinshad Davis has 37 receptions in his last eight games.

50 - Tight end Eric Ebron has caught 50 passes this season, which is a single-season school record for receptions by a tight end. He broke the previous mark of 40 that he set in 2012. He needs four to move into a tie for second place on the ACC single-season chart for catches by a tight end.

64 - QB Bryn Renner finished his standout career with 64 career touchdown passes, just four short of the school record of 68 set by Darian Durant from 2001-04.

71.7 - Carolina is averaging 71.7 plays per game this season, down slightly from the 74.8 per game in Fedora’s first season in 2012. Carolina ran 86 plays vs NC State in 2012, the most at UNC since 2003. In 2011, Carolina averaged 63.4 plays per game, which ranked 117th in the country.

100 - Eric Ebron has the UNC career record for most catches by a tight end with 100.

151.22 - Quarterback Bryn Renner finished his career with an ACC-best career pass efficiency mark of 151.22, just ahead of the previous high of 151.15 set by Florida State’s Chris Weinke from 1997-2000.

774 - Eric Ebron has 774 receiving yards this year, the North Carolina single-season record for yards by a tight end. He broke the record of 625 that he set in 2012.

COACHES ON GAMEDAY ence for these young people and their guests on our campus at a football game. “This program is a great way for the athletic department and football program to give back to the elemen-

tary schools in our state by offering an exciting day at Kenan Stadium as an incentive for scholastic achieve-ment. Our mission is to educate and inspire through athletics and this program is a perfect example of what we are trying to achieve.”

Prior to the kick off of the 2013 season, North Carolina Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Devel-opment Cricket Lane sent a letter to every elementary school principal in the state. The letter was also shared with the North Carolina school boards to encourage participation.

Elementary school students reserved more than 10,500 tickets for the Duke game and more than 7,500 for the Old Dominion game.

“I would like to thank the University of North Carolina for this generous offer and for giving Hillsborough Elementary School students the chance to attend a UNC football game with their families,” said Steven M. We-ber, Principal at Hillsborough Elementary School. “Our school is focused on college and career readiness and this opportunity will support students and give them access to a college campus on game day. Several families at our school are unable to afford college football tickets, so this is an opportunity of a lifetime! Our students will love the game and the recognition. This program appears to be well thought out and coordinated. Thank you for reaching out to elementary schools and recognizing students!”

Postgame Notes vs. ODU• Carolina improved to 6-5 overall with its fifth straight victory. It is the Tar Heels’ longest winning streak

since a five-game win streak in 2001. Carolina is now bowl eligible and will compete in a postseason game for the first time since 2011.

• Carolina set a school record for points with 80. The previous high was also set under head coach Larry Fedora when the Tar Heels had 66 last year vs. Idaho. Carolina’s previous high this season was 45 vs. Virginia.

• Carolina’s 80 points are the second-highest total ever by an ACC team. Clemson set the ACC record with an 82-24 win over Wake Forest in 1981.

• Carolina set a school record with 721 total yard of offense, breaking the old mark of 714 against Maryland in 1993. The 721 total yards ranks as the 11th-highest total in ACC history. Florida State holds the record at 858.

• The Tar Heels also set a school record for the highest average yards per play. Carolina finished with 68 plays for 721 yards, an average of 10.6 per play. The 10.6 average per play is an all-time ACC high.

• Carolina’s 11 touchdowns are a school record and one shy of the ACC record of 12 set by Clemson against Wake Forest in 1981. The previous school mark of 10 touchdowns by UNC was set vs. Virginia Medical in 1914 and Wake Forest in 1928.

• Five of the 11 touchdowns came on plays of 50 yards or longer, including a 56-yard reception by Quinshad Davis, a 57-yard reception by Ryan Switzer, a 99-yard kickoff return by T.J. Logan, a 63-yard run by Logan and a 64-yard punt return by Switzer.

• All 11 Carolina touchdowns were scored by either freshmen or sophomores. Of Carolina’s last 47 touch-downs, 39 have been scored by freshmen or sophomores, including the last 23 in a row.

• The Tar Heels tied the ACC single-game record for extra points by kicking with 11. Florida State also had 11 against N.C. State in 1995.

• Eleven different Tar Heel players caught passes, led by Ryan Switzer with five for 118 yards and two touch-downs and Quinshad Davis with four receptions for 124 yards and one touchdown. Four different receivers had touchdown catches. T.J. Thorpe and Kendrick Singleton also had scoring catches today.

• Quinshad Davis now has 106 catches in his two seasons at Carolina for 1,468 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is now tied with Art Weiner for 14th place in career receptions. Davis is now tied for sixth place on the school’s all-time touchdown reception list. Four other players also have 14 scoring catches.

• Davis finished with four catches for 124 yards and a touchdown. It is his second 100-yard game this sea-son and fourth of his career. He had 111 yards on five catches earlier this season vs. ECU.

• Switzer has now returned 20 punts for 414 yards and four touchdowns this season. That ties the ACC record for touchdowns on punt returns in a season. Steve Suter of Maryland also had four in 2002. His four touchdowns on punt returns are the most in the nation this year. Switzer is averaging 20.7 yards per return this year.

• Switzer has now scored in four of the last five games. He scored on a 43-yard pass, a 57-yard pass and a 64-yard punt return. Dating back to the Pitt game, Switzer scored five times in nine touches after making the 57-yard catch.

• Switzer tied the NCAA record for consecutive games with a punt return touchdown at three. He has scored four times on punt returns in the last three games. The only other player in NCAA history to score in three consecutive games on punt returns was David Allen of Kansas State in 1998 (63 yards vs. Indiana St., Sept. 5; 69 yards vs. Northern Ill., Sept. 12; 93 yards vs. Texas, Sept. 19).

• T.J. Logan’s 99-yard kickoff return is the third longest in Carolina history. Tyrell Godwin had a 100-yard re-turn against Stanford in 1998 and T.J. Thorpe also had a 100-yard return against Clemson in 2011. The 99-yard return is the longest by a Tar Heel in Kenan Stadium.

• Carolina scored 49 points in the first half, including a school-record tying 35 in the second quarter. The Tar

Heels also scored 35 against in the second quarter vs. Duke in 2000.

• Sophomore quarterback Marquise Williams es-tablished the school record for total offense in a game with 469 total yards. The previous high was 443 by T.J. Yates vs. Florida State in 2010.

• Williams tied the school record for passing touch-downs with five. It is the fifth time a Carolina player has thrown for five TDs in a game. The others are Bryn Renner vs. Louisville in 2012 and Maryland in 2012, Darian Durant vs. Arizona State in 2002 and Kevin Anthony vs. Wake Forest in 1985.

• Williams established school records for total offense in a half (425 in the first) and passing yards in a half (379 in the first). The previous record for total offense in a half was 326 by Gayle Bomar vs. Wake Forest in 1968 (second half). The previous mark for passing yards in a half was 296 by Mark Maye vs. Georgia Tech (second half) in 1987.

• Williams completed 20 of 27 pass attempts for 409 yards and five touchdowns. It is just the seventh 400-yard passing game in school history and ranks sixth on UNC’s single-game chart.

• Freshman tailback T.J. Logan rushed 14 times for 137 yards and three touchdowns. He is the first Carolina tailback to run for more than 100 yards in a game this season.

• Logan scored four touchdowns, three by rushing and one on a 99-yard kick return. That is the most by a Tar Heel since Hakeem Nicks had four (all receiving) vs. Boston College in 2008. Logan’s three rushing touch-downs are the most by a Tar Heel since Shaun Draughn vs. East Carolina in 2010.

A Look At Each Half Of The Schedule• According to USA Today’s Sagarin rankings, Carolina had played the fourth-most difficult schedule in the

country through its first six games of the season. • Three of Carolina’s first six opponents are ranked in the top 32 of the Sagarin rankings and five of six in the

top 50. In the final six games of the year, only Duke at No. 39 is ranked in the top 50. • The first six opponents have a combined record of 42-19 (.689), compared to a 32-29 (.526) mark by the

final six teams on the slate.

Defensive Play Picking Up• North Carolina’s defense has shown steady improvement over the last few weeks and is largely responsible

for the recent five-game win streak. • In the win over Pitt, Carolina posted seven sacks, 12 tackles for loss, six quarterback hurries, five pass

breakups and two fumble recoveries. The seven sacks are the most since posting seven against ECU in 2012. It is the most in an ACC game since recording 10 vs. Wake Forest in 2000. The Tar Heels limited the Panthers to 46 yards rushing and 359 total yards.

• Carolina’s defense had three sacks, two additional tackles for losses, seven quarterback hurries, seven pass breakups and two interceptions in a 45-14 win over Virginia.

• Carolina allowed just 10 points in a 34-10 victory over Boston College. The 10 points are the fewest al-lowed by the Tar Heels since a 66-0 win over Idaho on Sept. 29, 2012. It is the lowest scoring output by an ACC opponent since a 44-10 win at Virginia on Oct. 16, 2010.

• In the win over Boston College, Carolina converted 8 of 16 on third down and held the Eagles to 5 of 16 on third down and 0 for 1 on fourth down. NC State coverted just 6 of 17 third down attempts and was 0 for 1 on fourth down. In the last two games, opponents have converted just 33 percent of third down chances.

• Carolina’s defense allowed just 59 passing yards against BC, the fewest by an opponent since Clemson threw for 37 yards in a UNC win in Death Valley on Nov. 15, 1997. The previous low passing yardage figure this year was 104 by Georgia Tech.

• Over the last five games, all wins, the opponents have started 69 of 77 drives on its side of midfield.

Marquise Williams Takes Over At QB• Sophomore QB Marquise Williams has taken over as the starting quarterback

with the season-ending injury to Bryn Renner. Williams had seen his playing time increase even before Renner’s injury and had provided a spark to the UNC offense.

• Williams has completed 90 of 148 attempts for 1,304 yards and 13 touch-downs, while rushing 86 times for 386 yards and four touchdowns. Williams has been the Tar Heels’ leading rusher in four of the last seven games, and had a career-best 79-yard effort in the win at Pitt.

• Williams scored on runs of 16 and 10 yards in the first half of Carolina’s 34-27 win at Pitt. He became the first UNC quarterback to rush for two touchdowns in a game since Darian Durant in a 38-3 victory at Clemson in 2001.

• Williams’ first touchdown came on Carolina’s second drive of the game and occurred two plays after he converted a 4th-and-9 with a 15-yard pass to Switzer. On the 76-yard scoring drive, Williams completed 4 of 6 pass attempts for 35 yards and ran seven times for 31 yards.

• Wearing No. 2 to honor Renner, Williams passed, ran and caught touch-downs in a 45-14 win over Virginia. He completed 15 of 28 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns in his second career start. He also rushed 16 times for 46 yards and a score and caught a 29-yard touchdown pass. He became the first Carolina quarterback to catch a touchdown pass since Kevin Anthony in 1984.

• Williams made his first career start at Virginia Tech in place of starter Bryn Renner who was out with a foot injury. Williams completed 23 of 35 passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns in the 27-17 loss.

• Williams rushed 18 times for team-high 56 yards against the Hokies, which was the most rushing yards by a UNC quarterback since Williams had 61 yards last season against Idaho. It also marked the first time a quarterback led the team in rushing since Durant vs. Duke in 2003.

• Williams completed 4 of 7 passes for 98 yards and touchdown against Mi-ami. His 71-yard scoring pass to Eric Ebron was his longest career completion and Carolina’s longest play from scrimmage in 2013. Williams also rushed five times for 27 yards.

• Williams rushed seven times for a team-high 55 yards and a touchdown in the win over Boston College. He also completed 4 of 8 passes for 55 yards and a touchdown, his fifth of the season.

Bryn Renner Outstanding Career Ends With Shoulder Injury• Senior quarterback Bryn Renner had season-ending surgery on his left

(non-throwing) shoulder on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at UNC Hospitals by Dr. Alex Creighton. Surgery was required to repair a detached labrum and fracture in his shoulder. Considered by many NFL Draft analysts one of the top five senior quarterbacks in 2013, Renner was the Tar Heels’ starting signal caller for three seasons.

• In 2013, Renner completed 152 of 231 attempts for 1,765 yards, 10 touch-downs and five interceptions.

• Renner finished his career with 64 career touchdown passes, which ranks second in school history. He finished four shy of UNC’s all-time mark of 68 set by Darian Durant from 2001-04.

• Renner had 8,221 career passing yards, good for 20th all-time in the ACC. He moved past Georgia Tech’s Reggie Ball (8,128) in the win over NC State. He is just the third player in Carolina history to reach 8,000 career passing yards.

• Renner completed 15 of 22 pass attempts for 124 yards in the win over NC State. He also scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. It was his second rushing TD of the season and fourth of his career.

• Renner completed 18 of 21 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns against Boston College. His completion percentage of .857 (18 for 21) was the second-highest of his career. He was 22 for 23 (.957) in his first start in 2011 against James Madison.

• Renner completed 28 of 36 passes for 297 yards and a touchdown against

Miami. It was his second straight game with 28 completions, which equaled his third-most in any game.

• Renner established a new single-game UNC record for consecutive comple-tions with 15 against Miami, breaking the previous record of 14 set by Kevin Anthony vs. Wake Forest in 1985, Jason Stanicek vs. NC State in 1992 and Renner against James Madison in 2011. Renner also holds the overall record with 19 straight completions across two games in 2011.

• Renner completed 28 of 46 passes for a career-high 366 yards and three touchdowns against East Carolina. It was the 10th career game in which Renner has thrown at least three touchdown passes. It was also his 10th career game with 300 or more passing yards, extending his own school record.

• Renner completed 23 of 34 pass attempts for 339 yards and a touchdown in a 40-20 win over MTSU. Renner saw his career-best streak of pass attempts without an interception snapped at 140 in the second quarter vs. MTSU. The school record for consecutive pass attempts without an interception is 154 (Oscar Davenport, 1996-97).

• Renner threw for more than 3,000 yards in 2011 (3,086) and 2012 (3,356). Renner and T.J. Yates are the only two Carolina quarterbacks to throw for more than 3,000 yards in a season and Renner is the only player to do it twice.

• In 2012, Renner completed 276 of 422 attempts for 3,356 yards and a single-season school record 28 touchdowns in 12 games. In his first year as a starter in 2011, he accumulated 3,086 passing yards in 13 games.

Switzer Playing a Starring Role• Freshman WR Ryan Switzer has played every game this season, but has

made his presence felt the most in Carolina’s current five-game win streak. • Switzer has returned four punts for touchdowns this seasonl. That ties the

ACC record for touchdowns on punt returns in a season. Steve Suter of Maryland also had four in 2002.

• Switzer has scored in four of the last five games. He scored on a 43-yard pass, a 57-yard pass and a 64-yard punt return against ODU. Dating back to the Pitt game, Switzer scored five times in nine touches after making the 57-yard catch.

• Switzer has tied the NCAA record for consecutive games with a punt return touchdown at three. He has scored four times on punt returns in the last three games against Virginia, Pitt and ODU. 19).

• Switzer tied the school record for most punt return touchdowns in a game with two against Pittsburgh. He had a 65-yarder in the second quarter and a 61-yarder in the fourth quarter with 4:46 remaining that proved to be the win-ning score. The only other player in UNC history to score twice on punt returns was defensive tackle Andre Purvis who recovered two blocked punts in the end zone against Tulane in 1993. Statistically, both of those recovered punts are recorded as punt returns.

• Switzer’s 85-yard punt return against Virginia equals the fourth-longest punt return for a touchdown in UNC history. It was the first career touchdown return for Switzer, who has also thrown for a touchdown and scored via reception in 2013.

• Switzer had his first collegiate touchdown catch, a 13-yard scoring strike from Bryn Renner, in the home win against Boston College. The following week, he tossed a 59-yard touchdown pass to Quinshad Davis at NC State. It was Switzer’s first career touchdown pass. He is the second wide receiver to throw a touchdown pass this year. Quinshad Davis has thrown two - against ECU and Virginia. Four different Tar Heels have thrown scoring passes this year.

Switzer Leads The Nation• Freshman Ryan Switzer is the only player in the country with four punt

return touchdowns. Eight other players have returned two for touchdowns. • Switzer is ranked second nationally with an 20.7 punt return average. The

single-season school record for punt return average is 17.5 by Charlie Justice in 1948.

• Davis had a season-high eight catches for 81 yards against Miami.• In the loss at Virginia Tech, Davis caught a season-high six passes for 94 yards

and a touchdown. • Davis had five catches for 111 yards and a touchdown against ECU. He also

threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Thorpe on his first career pass attempt. It was his fourth career 100-yard receiving game and his first such-game this season.

• A year ago, the 6-4, 205-pound wide receiver set UNC freshman records with 61 receptions and 776 receiving yards. A native of Gaffney, S.C., Davis added approximately 20 pounds in the offseason without losing any speed.

• Last year against Virginia, Davis finished with Carolina single-game freshman records of 16 catches and 178 yards. The previous records were nine catches (Octavus Barnes vs. Texas, 1994 Sun Bowl) and 171 yards (Hakeem Nicks at Notre Dame, 2006). The 16 catches match the ACC record for all players, tied most recently by Wake Forest’s Michael Campanaro. Davis is one of six ACC players with 16 receptions in a game.

• Davis concluded the 2012 season second in ACC history for catches by a freshman and fourth in receiving yards by a freshman.

NORTH CAROLINA & THE NFL DRAFT

• In the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, North Carolina offensive guard Jonathan Cooper was selected seventh overall by the Arizona Cardinals and defensive tackle Sylvester Williams was picked 28th overall by the Denver Broncos. North Caro-lina has now produced six first-round draft picks since 2008. That is the most of any ACC school. • The last time two Tar Heels were picked in the first round was 2002 when DE Julius Peppers was picked No. 2 by the Carolina Panthers and DT Ryan Sims went sixth overall to the Kansas City Chiefs.• At No. 7, Cooper is the sixth-highest pick all-time from North Carolina. Only Ken Willard (No. 2 in 1965), Ken Huff (No. 3 in 1975), Lawrence Taylor (No. 2 in 1981), Peppers (No. 2 in 2002) and Sims (No. 6 in 2002) were selected higher than Cooper.• Cooper is the fourth offensive lineman picked in the first round from UNC. The others were Huff in 1975 (No. 3 overall), Brian Blados in 1984 (No. 28) and Harris Barton in 1987 (No. 22). Huff is the only other guard to be picked in the first round from UNC.• Cooper is the first offensive guard selected in the top 10 of the NFL Draft since 1997 when Colorado’s Chris Naeole was selected by the New Orleans Saints at No. 10. taken in the 2013 NFL Draft when he was taken by the Cincinnati Bengals with the fifth pick of the second round (37th overall). It is the first time Carolina has produced the first tailback of the draft. Ethan Horton, a running back at UNC, was selected in the 1984 draft, but played exclusively tight end in the NFL.• Bernard became the first Tar Heel tailback taken in the second round since Natrone Means in 1993. Bernard is the highest selected tailback from UNC since Horton in 1984. Horton played tight end in the NFL.• Offensive tackle Brennan Williams was selected in the third round by the Houston Texans (89th overall) and Travis Bond was selected in the seventh round by the Minnesota Vikings (214th overall). Williams and Bond were the second and third offensive linemen (Cooper is the other) selected in this year’s draft. It is the first time three Tar Heel offensive linemen have been taken in the same draft. • A total of 25 Carolina players have been selected in the NFL Draft since 2008, which equals the most of any ACC school. Carolina is tied with Clemson and Florida State. Two Tar Heels were picked in the 2008 draft, five in 2009, two in 2010, a league-high nine in 2011, two in 2012 and five in 2013.

Tar Heel Coaches in the NFLThere are approximately two dozen coaches/

key administrators in the NFL today who are either former Tar Heels or have ties to Chapel Hill. The royal blue of the Indianapolis Colts has a decided accent of Carolina blue. Two former Tar Heels are on the staff there--QB coach Clyde Christensen was a Tar Heel quarterback in the 1970s, and director of player engagement David Thornton was a linebacker from 1998-2001. LARRY FEDORAHead CoachSecond Year at UNC

More than a year ago at his introductory press conference, Larry Fedora stood in front of a packed room at UNC’s Loudermilk Center and promised to provide an entertaining product. At one point he even told the gathering that you if you leave your seat to go to the concession stand, you’re prob-ably going to miss a touchdown. He did not disappoint. In his first year in Chapel Hill, Fedora’s Tar Heels posted more than 35 school offensive records, won eight games and tied for first in the ACC’s Coastal Division.

Led by a group of resilient seniors, Fedora led a focused team that lived by his mantra of playing “smart, fast and physical.” He hopes to build off that momentum as he enters his second season as UNC’s head coach. He is the 35th head coach in Carolina history and the 11th since the ACC was formed in 1953.

Fedora’s first season in Chapel Hill was highlighted by a 6-1 mark at home, including a thrilling 43-35 victory over NC State and a 48-34 win against Virginia Tech. Giovani Bernard’s 74-yard punt return in the final seconds of the NC State game ended Carolina’s five-game losing skid to its nearby rival and set off a wild celebration on the UNC sidelines. The Virginia Tech game saw Carolina rush for 339 yards, the most since 2004, as the Tar

Heels posted 533 total yards of offense. It was also the most points the Hok-ies had allowed in a game since joining the ACC. Carolina also posted home victories over Elon, East Carolina, Idaho and Maryland, and picked up road wins at Miami and Virginia. It marked the first time a UNC coach had won at Virginia in his first attempt since Dick Crum in 1979.

Carolina’s players benefitted from Fedora’s up-tempo style of play. Of-fensive guard Jonathan Cooper and defensive tackle Sylvester Williams were selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft by Arizona (No. 7) and Denver (No. 28), respectively. It was just the second time Carolina had produced multiple first-round picks in the same season. Cooper was a con-sensus first-team All-America and became the first Outland Trophy finalist in UNC history. Williams, who prior to coming to UNC had worked in a factory making truck parts, was a stout run-stopper who earned first-team All-ACC honors.

Bernard, the fleet-footed runner from Ft. Lauderdale, led the league in rushing, earned first-team All-ACC honors at both running back and special-ist and was the first tailback selected in the NFL Draft when Cincinnati picked him in the second round. Nine Tar Heels from the 2012 squad signed profes-sional contracts, including five draft picks and four free agent signings. All three senior offensive linemen were drafted, including Cooper in the first round, Brennan Williams in the third and Travis Bond in the seventh.

Statistically, Carolina finished eighth in the country in scoring, averag-ing a school-record 40.6 points per game. The Tar Heels scored 30 or more points in nine of 12 games, and twice posted more than 60 points, including a school-record 66 against Idaho. Carolina was 14th in the nation in total offense, averaging a school-record 485.6 yards per game. It marked the fifth consecutive year as a head coach that Fedora’s offense has gained more than 5,000 total yards.

The Tar Heels also excelled on special teams, finishing 10th in net punting and 10th in punt return average. Bernard was second nationally in punt returns and fourth as an all-purpose runner.

Fedora came to Carolina after four seasons as head coach at Southern

Miss’s graduation success rate (GSR) ranked second in CUSA in the 2009-10 academic year and third during the 2010-11 academic year. In 2009, USM was recognized by the AFCA for its graduation success rate.

The Southern Miss job was Fedora’s first head coaching assignment after excelling in the collegiate ranks as an assistant. He spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 2005-07 where the Cowboys raised their rushing, passing and total offensive yards each year with Fedora at the helm. In 2006, the Cowboys were one of just two teams - the other being Boise State - to average over 200 yards both rushing and passing.

The OSU offense averaged over 30 points per contest over his final two seasons as well. The Cow-boys made the biggest improvement in the country in scoring following his second season of running the offense, jumping from 96th nationally in 2005 to 7th in 2006.

Prior to his stint at Oklahoma State, Fedora spent three seasons at Florida as run game coordinator (2002), perimeter game coordinator (2003) and offensive coordinator (2004). He also coached the running backs and receivers all three seasons.

In 2004, Fedora’s Gators ranked first in the SEC in six different categories including passing offense (271.1), total offense (426.9), third down conversion percentage (47.8), touchdown passes (29), pass at-tempts (407) and pass completions (243).

Before going to Florida, Fedora was the offensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee from 1999-2001. In three seasons at MTSU, Fedora’s offense averaged 424 yards of total offense, 181 rushing yards and 31 points per game. With Fedora as their offensive coordinator, the Blue Raiders set 43 school records over three seasons.

Fedora began his coaching career as a graduate assistant (1986) at Austin College. He then served as an assistant coach at Garland (Texas) High School from 1987-90. Fedora returned to the collegiate ranks in 1991, serving as the tight ends, wide receivers and running backs coach at Baylor, where he stayed until 1996. He then spent two seasons (1997-98) at Air Force coaching the passing game and wide receivers.

As a player, Fedora was a wide receiver at Austin College (1981-84) in Sherman, Texas. He helped lead the Kangaroos to the NAIA championship in 1981. He earned academic All-American honors in 1983, and honorable mention All-American in both 1983 and 1984.

Born Sept. 10, 1962, in College Station, Texas, Fedora is a 1985 graduate of Austin College, where he also received his Masters degree in 1986. He is married to the former Christi Wood, and the couple has one son, Dillon, and three daughters, Sydney, Peyton and Hallie.
