UPDATE ON DRINKING WATER NON-POTABILITY IN GAETA - FORMIA AND SURROUNDING AREAS NSAND Gaeta Fleet Landing - Drinking water is declared NONPOTABLE and not fit for consumption by the U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Preventive Medicine Authority (PMA). After further testing, the drinking water notice of 12 December 2012 is rescinded. The PMA will conduct daily testing to verify the safety of the water being supplied and will publish information once the drinking water is declared potable and fit for consumption. Olde Mill Inn - Drinking water status remains NONPOTABLE and not fit for consumption. Daily drinking water test results have shown some improvement in the quality of the water delivered to the Olde Mill Inn facilities; however, the water is currently not meeting the required Environmental Final Governing Standards, Italy (FGS) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) criteria for potability and consumption. The PMA will continue to conduct daily testing to verify the safety of the water being supplied. NSAND Gaeta personnel were notified on 5 November 2012 that the drinking water in Gaeta and surrounding areas had been declared non-potable by the town of Gaeta and USNH PMA because of high turbidity levels. Additionally, residents were advised to use bottled water for drinking, food preparation, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, and for pets. On 26 November 2012, the USNH PMA declared the drinking water at NSAND Gaeta Fleet Landing potable and fit for consumption. However, the potability declaration was rescinded on 27 November 2012 after drinking water test results indicated fecal coliform bacteria contamination. On 12 December 2012, the USNH PMA re-declared the drinking water at NSAND Gaeta Fleet Landing potable and fit for consumption after consecutive drinking water test results indicated that the water quality met FGS and USEPA criteria for potability and consumption.
