Signature Assignment Lesson Plan
Reflection
After reading the feedback that I received from the teacher I interviewed, my professor
and my peers, I have made a few changes to my lesson. These changes are in red on my final
lesson plan to make them easy to see. A majority of these changes have to do with addressing
UDL in my lesson plan. From the comments left by my peers it was clear that I need to clearly
state how my lesson plan provides students with multiple means of engagement, representation
and expression. By clearly addressing these topics it is now clear to me the importance of having
them clearly addressed in a lesson plan. When adding them I found that it forced me to more
closely consider how my lesson address each of them and I made changes where I felt that I had
not adequately address each. I have also gone through and clarified some things that were not
addressed in detail.
After reading the teachers feedback I was really happy that she liked my idea of having
the student create questions on the topic that they are struggling on and then have them present
solutions to the class. She even went as far as to say that she looked forward to trying this in her
class in the future. The last change I made to my lesson plan was to try to link the six elements of
the learning map more directly to my actual lesson plan by adding more detail to the lesson plan
and more clearly stating the goals of the various parts of the lesson. Overall I am happy with how
my lesson plan turned out and I am very thankful for all the great feedback I received.

6 Elements of learning Map
Tk12 learner
The class is an AP class so most of the students are very high achieving and hard working. Most
of them have exceptional math skills and can do mental math fairly easily. There are several
English language learners in the class with varying degrees of English proficiency. The most
common language other than English is Mandarin. Going over vocabulary words they might
encounter on the AP exam would really benefit them. Overall the students are very well behaved
there is one student that can get off topic during class so making sure that he is on task will help.
Moving him closer to the front of the class might help to stay on task.
Teacher
The guiding tenet is to teach the material in a way that students understand the underlying
concepts. My goal is to have the student’s understand the concepts on a deeper level; I believe
that if students understand why equations work they will be more likely to perform better. Also,
align class and material covered to AP curriculum. Need to work on social emotional learning,
currently more focused on the material. Need to take more time to reflect on the social emotional
needs of students, this will strengthen teaching ability.
Target
The target of this lesson is to help students prepare for their upcoming national exam. The
students have learned this material before and the goal of this lesson is too sure up any topics that
they are still unsure about. Not all students are struggling with the topics covered for these
SIGNITURE ASSIGNEMNT 4
students it is just extra practice. Helping students get used to the format of the test and how the
questions will be asked is vital as it will save them valuable time on the exam.
Assessment
The warm-up quiz is designed to check how well the students have learned the material from the
previous day. This assessment will provide the teacher with valuable feedback about student
knowledge. If the class does well the teacher can move on from that topic. If however, the
students are still struggling the teacher can decide whether it is necessary to cover the topic
again. If just one or two students still need help the teacher can provide them with additional help
and resources.
Instruction
The lesson will have elements from various teaching strategies. Parts of the lesson will use
cooperative learning and encourage students to take a very active role in the lesson. At other
parts the lesson will be teacher centered with the teacher lecturing. The lesson will follow UDL
guidelines for lessons. This lesson plan will ensure that there are multiple means of engagement
for students by utilizing various teaching strategies, activities, and encouraging students to play
an active role in the lesson. These same techniques in addition to providing visual and
mathematical representation of topics will ensure that students see various means of
representation and expression. By following these pillars of UDL this lesson seeks to keep
students engaged and challenge them to view information from various perspectives. The
individual needs of students will also be addressed throughout the instruction. English language
learners will be encouraged to use vocabulary that they are likely to encounter on the test when

participating to ensure that they are practicing. Students will also be asked to create questions on
the topics they are struggling with and teach the class how to do these problems forcing them to
learn the material.
Management/ Environmental Models
The classroom management model for this lesson will use behavioral monitoring and positive
reinforcement. These students are AP students meaning that they are taking a college level
course. They are expected to self-monitor their own behavior. During the lesson the teacher will
encourage and acknowledge participation. This late in the year many aspects of class room
management come from having had clear classroom expectations and enforcement of those
expectations throughout the year. Staying consistent will help maintain a positive classroom
environment.
Lesson Plan
Warm-up (10 min)
Begin by having students do two problems that relate to the material reviewed during the
previous lesson and incorporating material related to the topic from earlier in the year will help
to have to make connections between various topics. This part of the lesson is geared towards the
assessment element of the learning map since it tests student comprehension of the material. The
two problems will cover volume by rotation around axis. After about 6 minutes collect the warm-
up quiz and discuss the problems as a class. When going over the problems the value of drawing
the visual representation of the questions will be stressed. The idea being that seeing the
mathematical and the visual representation will make it easier to solve the problem.

Peer teaching (5 min)
Student that asked yesterday’s review topic will go to the front of the class and do two problems
on the topic teaching them to the rest of the class. This strategy of instruction through the use of
cooperative learning will increase student engagement by having students take an active role in
the learning process. It also ensures that the lesson provides multiple means of engagement and
will challenge students.
New review topic (10 min)
Select another link from the review chain and cover it as a class. The student who wrote the
question has the job to bring in two questions on the subject and teach the class how to do the
problems. By having students chose review topics it ensures that this lesson address the areas
that students need the most help with.
Practice test (remaining time)
Continue to go through the practice test by having students answer the next 5 questions on the
test. After the students have gone through the test do the problems as a class encouraging
students to voice their ideas and ask any questions. The teacher should answer any questions that
the students have provide extra help and review with topics the students struggled with using
vocabulary that might appear on the exam. Having students keep a list of vocabulary terms that
they struggle with will be a great recourse for them.

Summary of Teacher Feedback
SIGNITURE ASSIGNEMNT 8
I am very gratefull for all the feedback I was given on this assignement. I know that
teachers are busy but Mrs. Mitchell welcomed me into her classroom and meet with me for the
interview and to disccus my lesson plan for with I am very grateful. She had very vuable
teaching advice and was honest on whatareas I needed to work more on. It was great to to hear
such a great teacher consider adding one of the elements of my lesson plan into her classroom. I
am curious to hear how it goes and incoorparate it into my class. In addition to her feedback on
my lesson Mrs. Mitchell also provided me valubale advice on managing a clasroom. She stressed
the importance on estabilshing good relationships with your students and having clear classroom
expectations that are equally and consistatnly enforced. This was a very valuble learining
experience.
