EMERSON ELEMENTARY Get Really Excited About Today!
Hello Emerson Families~
With Spring hopefully here to stay and the temperature will eventually be on the rise, I
would like to put a friendly reminder out about appropriate clothing for school. Students are
able to wear shorts that are at an appropriate length. Shorts should be below the finger tips
when arms are at the side of the child. Shoulders, backs and stomachs should be fully covered
(i.e. no spaghetti straps or tank tops) also low cut shirts should not be worn unless there is
something underneath. Flip-flops are not an appropriate shoe for school due to the lack of sup-
port and protection to the feet. Thank you for your cooperation in making the learning environ-
ment as free from distraction as possible.
M-STEP testing is in full swing! The 5th
grade will finish the M-STEP (the new format of
MEAP testing) on Monday, 4/25 with a Social Studies test. The Third Grade students will begin
their M-STEP testing on Wednesday, 4/27 in the area of English-Language Arts. They will com-
plete the Math portions on Monday, 5/2 and Wednesday, 5/4. The 4th
grade students will begin
testing the week of May 9th
. More details to come on that next week. Please make every effort to
have your child in school on the testing days that mentioned as a way to avoid a lengthy make-
up session that will be held when they return.
Our 1st
grade students are fully involved in a school-wide Earth Day project here at Emer-
son! They are collecting markers that no longer work. Our 1st
grade has partnered with Crayola
to recycle the old markers and turn them into a renewable energy resource such as fuel for
school busses. If you have old markers at home, please send them in with your child and we will
make sure they make it to the 1st
grade recycling boxes. Please have all markers in by Wednes-
day, April 27th
.
Friday, May 6th
is Family Field Day (formally known as Family Fun Night) from 6:00-7:30
right here at Emerson Elementary. The outdoor games will begin at 6:00 to allow families to pur-
chase pizza, cotton candy and water. The games will begin shortly after and continue until 7:30.
The raffles will take place around 7:25. This event is FREE and for current Emerson families on-
ly. Please note that while all of the activities are at no cost, the pizza, cotton candy and water
will be available for a small charge. There will be gift baskets and a bike that will be raffled off in
the later part of the evening. The raffle tickets will be available for purchase from Emerson Staff
members during the evening. I look forward to seeing you on Friday, May 6th
!
