Screw compressor chillers from Geoclima are characterized by a simple structure, consisting of few moving parts, that leads to great reliability and to the reduction of vibrations and the related noise. This ensures long-lasting units and a significant cut in both installation and maintenance costs.Geoclima has always been dedicated to satisfying the specific needs of its customers and, therefore, has developed two lines of products: Energymiser, which aims at high efficiency using R134a refrigerant, and Greenmiser, which has as its purpose the eco-sustainability and therefore uses HFO-1234ze and R290, two low GWP refrigerants.

I chiller con compressori a vite Geoclima si caratterizzano per la meccanica semplice, composta di pochi elementi in azione, che si traduce in maggior affidabilità e riduzione delle vibrazioni e del conseguente rumore. Energymiser machines are characterized by the use of R134a, which has been being a widely used refrigerant for more than fifteen years. The proved international experience ensures a deep knowledge of its qualities, its advantages and its wide range of use in both industrial and civil applications. Compared with other tested refrigerants, R134a turns out to be the best one, considering the high efficiency and the economic aspects regarding both installation and maintenance. Geoclima is therefore able to design solutions in order to satisfy the different needs of its clients, through the realization of customized applications.

Greenmiser Eco-friendly and highly efficient innovation

Geoclima has as its priorities eco-sustainability and protection of the environment: from this point of view different applications have been studied for refrigerants HFO-1234ze and R290, whose main characteristic is the very low GWP (Global Warming Potential).Although this kind of systems has experienced relatively recent applications, the Geoclima R&D department has tested different uses for these refrigerants, realizing some units.The main advantages coming from these refrigerants are related to the low environmental impact and to the wide range of possible applications. Especially R290, besides being completely natural, turns out to be particularly suitable for both positive and negative temperature applications: this quality differentiates it from HFO-1234ze and R134a.Then, Greenmiser line has been designed in order to provide innovative solutions, aiming at efficiency and eco-sustainability as equally important purposes.

Geoclima ha da sempre come priorità l’eco-sostenibilità e la salvaguardia dell’ambiente: è in quest’ottica che sono state studiate diverse applicazioni dei refrigeranti HFO-1234ze e R290, che si distinguono per i bassissimi livelli di GWP (Global Warming Potential).Per quanto questo tipo di impianti sia di relativamente recente applicazione, la divisione R&D di Geoclima ha saputo sperimentare diversi impieghi per tali refrigeranti, realizzando già alcune unità per questa linea di chiller.I maggiori vantaggi nell’utilizzo di questi due refrigeranti riguardano come detto il basso impatto ambientale e l’ampia possibilità di impiego. In particolar modo l’R290, oltre ad essere completamente naturale, risulta particolarmente adatto per applicazioni a temperature non solo positive ma anche negative, qualità questa che lo differenzia dall’HFO-1234ze e dall’R134a.La linea Greenmiser è quindi stata studiata per fornire soluzioni all’avanguardia che puntino a efficienza ed eco-sostenibilità quali obiettivi principali e ugualmente importanti.

The Global Warming Potential (GWP) is defined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as the index to measure how much heat a greenhouse gas traps in the atmosphere during a certain period of time. The Carbon dioxide is considered to be the main greenhouse gas (with GWP=1) and is used as the base for the calculation of the environmental impact of other gases: the unit of measurement is the CO2eq (Carbon dioxide equivalent). As time passes the GWP of a greenhouse gas usually decreases, but in the case of some gases with a very high GWP (thousands of times higher than CO2), it takes a very long time for them to completely lose their ability to trap heat. So, the more HGWP (High Global Warming Potential) gases enter the atmosphere, the faster our climate will change.

The Kyoto Protocol was ratified with the aim of challenging these climate changes and the signatory Parties have undertaken to reduce the emission of certain greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

This led to the need to use gases with low GWP levels in order to reduce the environmental impact. Geoclima has studied and developed ultra-efficient solutions with very low GWP refrigerant gases, such as HFO1234ze (GWP<1) and R290 (GWP=3). These refrigerants ensure high efficiency and, at the same time, a minimized environmental impact and turn out to be the best and most suitable solution for the respect of the atmospheric conditions.

Il Global Warming Potential (GWP) è definito dall’Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) come l’indicatore per misurare la capacità di assorbimento delle radiazioni termiche solari da parte di un gas serra durante un determinato periodo di tempo. L’anidride carbonica è considerata il principale gas serra (con GWP=1) e viene usata come parametro in base al quale misurare l’impatto ambientale degli altri gas: l’unità di misura è dunque la CO2eq (CO2 equivalente). Il GWP tende a diminuire con il passare del tempo, ma alcuni gas hanno un GWP talmente alto (anche migliaia di volte superiore alla CO2) che hanno bisogno di un tempo estremamente lungo per perdere completamente la loro capacità di assorbimento. Quindi, più gas con elevato GWP entrano nell’atmosfera, più rapidamente, e drasticamente, il clima è destinato a cambiare.

E proprio nell’ottica di combattere tali cambiamenti climatici è stato ratificato il Protocollo di Kyoto, aderendo al quale, i Paesi firmatari si impegnano a diminuire l’emissione di determinati gas serra nell’atmosfera.

Da qui è nata l’esigenza di impiegare gas con un basso livello di GWP, in modo da ridurre l’impatto ambientale. Geoclima ha studiato e sviluppato soluzioni ultra efficienti con gas refrigeranti che presentano GWP bassissimi, quali l’HFO1234ze (GWP<1) e l’R290 (GWP=3). Questi due gas garantiscono un elevata efficienza – pari a quella dell’R134a – e al contempo un impatto ambientale minimo, dimostrandosi la soluzione più adatta per il rispetto dell’ambiente e del clima.

Adiabatic Evaporative SystemA significant reduction of energy costs

The Geoclima adiabatic chiller is equipped with an innovative evaporative

system which allows considerable energy savings, exploiting the natural process of adiabatic cooling: the hot and dry air withdrawn from the environment passes through evaporative suitably wet panels and cools down.The cooling effect allows to reduce the condensing temperature obtaining a considerable reduction of the pressure ratio of the compressor, with the consequent energetic benefits.During the winter months, or in prohibitive environmental conditions for the evaporative system, the intelligent control distances the panels reducing the absorption of the fans, in order to maintain maximum efficiency of the system.Employing the adiabatic evaporative system, Geoclima is able to reduce the annual electrical absorption of the chiller up to 30%, in comparison to an equivalent conventional air cooled system.

Free Cooling ExchangersFor superior performance chillers all year round

The finned exchangers are positioned uphill to the condenser coils whenever it is better to obtain a cooling type Free Cooling.The air crosses the coils before hitting the refrigeration condensers of the refrigerant. The higher the difference of temperature between the circulating water and the outdoor air, the better the system will perform. This solution is therefore indicated for conditioning systems for data processing centers or for the refrigeration of industrial processes and for all applications which require a production of chilled water even during the winter.

Gli scambiatori sono attraversati dall’aria prima che questa investa i condensatori di raffreddamento del refrigerante. EC fansA green technology with proven energy savingsThe main features of these fans adopted by Geoclima for the G-Range of air cooled condensers are compactness, low noise level and exceptional efficiency. The variable speed drive fans react continuously to load variations ensuring maximum efficiency especially at partial loads. Compared to conventional fans energy savings of 30% can be achieved. Assuming continuous operation, the additional cost of these high efficiency fans is easily recovered within the first year.

Le caratteristiche principali di questi ventilatori adottati da Geoclima per la gamma di condensatori raffreddati ad aria G-Range sono: compattezza, basso livello di rumorosità ed eccezionale efficienza. I ventilatori a velocità variabile reagiscono costantemente alle variazioni di carico garantendo la massima efficienza soprattutto ai carichi parziali. Rispetto ai ventilatori convenzionali il risparmio energetico è del 30%. Moreover, different distances between the buffles are available. This ensures strong and vibrationless execution. All evaporators are insulated with thick closed-cell anti-condensation mattress. The choice of the materials used in these evaporators is the result of the strict quality tests carried out in compliance with PED (Dir. 97/23/CE) and the European norms regulating the construction of pressure vessels.

Electronic expansion valveContinuous optimization of superheatingGeoclima has chosen to use expansion valves which guarantee a very precise control of superheat. In this way, the evaporator is always filled with the optimal amount of refrigerant, even in the presence of significant variations in load. This is possible because the current value of superheating in the evaporator is continuously detected by a pressure transducer and a highly sensitive temperature sensor, which transmit information relating to the regulator in real time. This means low superheat, use of the maximum evaporation pressure and, therefore, improvement of the COP and energy efficiency.

In questo modo, l’evaporatore viene sempre riempito con la quantità ottimale di refrigerante, anche in presenza di significative variazioni di carico. Questo è possibile perché il valore corrente di surriscaldamento nell’evaporatore è costantemente rilevato da un trasduttore di pressione e da un sensore di temperatura particolarmente sensibile, i quali trasmettono le informazioni relative al regolatore in tempo reale. They are made entirely of aluminium, weighing 60% less than traditional copper tube condensers and are fully recyclable. Micro-channel coil construction/configuration reduces air side pressure drop resulting in smaller sized, lower power fans, achieving quieter operation.This technology improves heat exchange by up to 45% compared to traditional condensers made of copper tubes and aluminium fins.

Shell and Tube CondenserA compact and efficient solutionGeoclima shell and tube condensers are designed using the best technical solutions. The shell and tube is made of high performance tubes of special copper, finned externally and grooved internally for a low fouling factor. Combining the two effects, refrigerant side and water-flow side, we can obtain condensers reduced in size and weight, compared with those that use traditional tubes for the same capacity. Shut-off valves for suction and discharge make it possible to insulate the condenser in case of maintenance operations, while keeping the refrigerant load insulated. The condensers are dimensioned in order to help the connection to external cooling towers. Geoclima chillers are equipped with a Panel mounted PC that makes system

monitoring simpler and more intuitive than older LCD based systems. This panel has a 214 mm touch screen and an Intel ATOM Fan-less 1.6-Ghz processor, offering excellent performance with low power consumption. User interface has been developed in collaboration with the Italian University of Padua to achieve an intelligent and effective management logic for the chiller. The software has a graphical user-friendly display screen and is able to collect and analyse data provided by the system.This optimises operation of the chiller to ensure it works at maximum efficiency.

DNC (Dynamic Noise Control) is an innovative system for direct measurement of the noise that allows to control the sound output of the chiller at programmable time slots, so that does not exceed the threshold set during installation. The system provides continuous monitoring even on partial loads: the result is the optimization of the system

with increased efficiency when compared to systems with fixed limitation of fan speed on time slots.

DNC (Dynamic Noise Control) è un innovativo sistema di misurazione diretta del rumore che permette di controllare l’emissione sonora del chiller in diverse fasce orarie programmabili, in modo che non superi la soglia prevista in fase di installazione.Il sistema assicura un controllo continuo anche su carichi parziali: il risultato è l’ottimizzazione del sistema con incremento dell’efficienza, se paragonato a sistemi con limitazione fissa della velocità del ventilatore su fasce orarie.

I chiller Geoclima sono dotati di un Panel PC che rende il monitoraggio del sistema più semplice e più intuitivo rispetto ai sistemi basati su LCD più vecchi. The client is one of the leading international warehouse manufacturer. In particular, the company deals with the development of one of the biggest warehouse for potatoes storage in the world, located in India.The objective was the development of a highly efficient warehouse, taking into account the several problems concerning the storage and the conservation of potatoes, besides the high consumption of energy necessary for the operation of the plant.Moreover, there was the need to develop a plant able to control sudden changes of temperature caused by different conditions, considering that we were dealing with perishable and edible products. Geoclima has designed the plant together with the builder of the warehouse, thereby developing a machine able to satisfy the client’s specific requirements, with great attention to issues concerning the peculiar sector. This solution can be worldwide applied.

The JSW Group is a Polish leading company in the production of high quality coking coal in Europe and works in four coal mines, including the Borynia-Zofiówka-Jastrzębie.The client’s requirement was to operate deeper and deeper and, therefore, to solve problems concerning the related increase of temperature. In these particular conditions, the only way to decrease temperatures was to cool down the air through cooling systems that use refrigerated water to work.The most suitable solution was to develop a cooling system based on two circuits: an underground circuit and a surface system.Geoclima operated in the second one, with the design and realization of two innovative 1350 kW chillers with in-house exchangers and the exceptional use of R717 refrigerant.The project has been able to satisfy the client’s specific requirements, demonstrating that Geoclima is able to provide suitable and customised solutions.

La JSW Group è un’azienda polacca leader nella produzione di carbone in Europa ed opera in quattro miniere, tra cui la Borynia-Zofiówka-Jastrzębie.L’esigenza del cliente era operare sempre più in profondità e quindi trovare una soluzione in grado di risolvere i problemi relativi al conseguente aumento della temperatura. Il cliente è uno dei maggiori produttori di magazzini a livello internazionale. Nello specifico si occupa della realizzazione di uno dei più grandi magazzini al mondo per lo stoccaggio di patate, situato in India.L’obiettivo posto dal cliente riguardava la realizzazione di un magazzino ad altissima efficienza che tenesse in considerazione le diverse problematiche relative al deposito e alla conservazione delle patate, oltre all’alto consumo di energia necessaria per il funzionamento dell’impianto.Inoltre, vi era l’esigenza di realizzare un impianto in grado di controllare gli sbalzi di temperatura causati da diverse variabili, considerando che si aveva a che fare con prodotti deteriorabili e commestibili.Geoclima ha progettato l’impianto di concerto con il costruttore del magazzino, realizzando in questo modo un macchinario in grado di soddisfare le specifiche esigenze del cliente, con grande attenzione alle problematiche derivanti dal particolare settore di produzione. General Description

Caratteristiche generali

The air cooled screw chillers of the GHA series are assembled on a self-supporting metal screwed structure, painted with epoxy powder suitably treated for outdoor installation. All units are supplied completely wired and ready to be connected to the user’s plant. Prior to delivery every machine is submitted to a performance test according to the strictest norms in force, with intervention tests of all the safety systems and components installed. Each unit is available with low-speed fan and compressor sound insulation kit (Low Noise LN version or Super Low Noise LLN) for installation in areas where noise emission must be extremely limited.

I chiller a vite condensati ad aria GHA sono montati su una struttura metallica autoportante, verniciatacon polveri epossidiche opportunamente trattate per installazione esterna. Tutte le unità sono fornite completamente cablate e pronte per essere collegate all’impianto dell’utente.Prima della consegna, ogni macchina viene sottoposta a un test delle prestazioni secondo le più severe norme in vigore,con prove di intervento di tutti i sistemi di sicurezza e componenti installati. Ogni unità è disponibile con ventola a bassa velocità e kit di isolamento acustico sul compressore (Low Noise versione LN o Super Low Noise LLN) per l’installazione in aree in cui l’emissione di rumore deve essere estremamente limitata.

General Description


GHA ES can be equipped with an innovative evaporative system which results in considerable energy savings. Exploiting the natural process of adiabatic cooling, hot and dry air normally drawn into air cooled condensers passes through a wet media before reaching the actual condenser coil. The evaporation effect reduces the air temperature by as much as 8 °C increasing the efficiency of the condensers. With lower condensing temperatures the efficiency of the refrigeration system is improved. During low ambient conditions the evaporative media is automatically moved away from the face of the condenser to allow a free passage of air on to the condenser reducing fan power in the ‘off cycle’. Power savings up to 25% can be achieved using this system which is particularly effective in countries which have high ambient temperatures.The units of the GHA ES series are assembled on a strong self-supporting metal screwed and welded structure, painted with epoxy powder with anti-rust coating for outdoor installation. All units are supplied completely wired and ready to be connected to the user’s plant. Prior to delivery every machine is submitted to a performance test, with intervention tests of all the safety systems and components installed. Each unit is available with low-speed fans and compressor sound insulation kit (Low Noise LN version or Super Low Noise LLN) for installation in areas where sound levels must be kept to a minimum.

GHA ES può essere equipaggiato con un innovativo sistema di evaporazione che si traduce in un notevole risparmio energetico. Sfruttando il naturale processo di raffreddamento adiabatico, l’aria calda e secca normalmente coinvolta in condensatori ad aria passa attraverso un supporto bagnato prima di raggiungere la serpentina del condensatore. L’effetto di evaporazione riduce la temperatura dell’aria di ben 8 °C aumentando l’efficienza dei condensatori. A temperature di condensazione più basse, l’efficienza del sistema di refrigerazione migliora. In condizioni ambientali gravose, il pacco evaporativo viene automaticamente spostato lontano dalla faccia del condensatore per permettere un passaggio d‘aria al condensatore riducendo la potenza del ventilatore nel “ciclo off”. Utilizzando questo sistema, che è particolarmente efficace nei Paesi con elevate temperature ambientali, si può ottenere fino al 25% di risparmio energetico.Le unità della serie GHA ES sono montate su una struttura metallica autoportante, verniciata con polveri epossidiche opportunamente trattate per installazione esterna. Tutte le unità sono fornite completamente cablate e pronte per essere collegate all’impianto dell’utente. Prima della consegna, ogni macchina viene sottoposta a un test delle prestazioni secondo le più severe norme in vigore,con prove di intervento di tutti i sistemi di sicurezza e componenti installati. Ogni unità è disponibile con ventola a bassa velocità e kit di isolamento acustico sul compressore (Low Noise versione LN o Super Low Noise LLN) per l’installazione in aree in cui l’emissione di rumore deve essere estremamente limitata.

General Description


Whenever it is required to maintain liquid cooling all year round, GHA FC chillers are clearly the best choice. The average yearly yield is much superior to that of traditional water chillers, and the initial investment costs are recovered in a very short time. These units are therefore indicated for conditioning systems for data processing centers or for the refrigeration of industrial processes and for all applications which require a production of chilled water even during the winter. A free cooling refrigeration device consists in using finned exchangers positioned uphill to the condenser coils. The air crosses the coils before hitting the refrigeration condensers of the refrigerant. When the temperature of the outdoor air is below the temperature of the water inside the plant, it is possible to obtain either partial or total chilling of the water, thanks to the heat released due to the thermal exchange in the water chilling coils. The higher the difference of temperature between the circulating water and the outdoor air, the better the system will perform. GHA FC is available in LN (low noise) or LLN (low low noise) for installation in plant rooms where sound levels must be kept to a minimum.

Qualora sia necessario mantenere costante il raffreddamento del liquido per tutto l’anno, i chiller GHA FC sono chiaramente la scelta migliore. La resa media annuale è molto superiore a quella dei tradizionali refrigeratori d’acqua e i costi di investimento iniziale vengono recuperati in un tempo molto breve. Queste unità sono quindi indicate per sistemi di condizionamento per centri di elaborazione dati o per la refrigerazione di processi industriali e per tutte le applicazioni che richiedono una produzione di acqua refrigerata anche durante l’inverno. Un dispositivo di refrigerazione free cooling consiste nell’utilizzo di scambiatori alettati posizionati davanti alle batterie del condensatore. L’aria attraversa le serpentine prima di arrivare ai condensatori di refrigerazione del refrigerante. Quando la temperatura dell’aria esterna è inferiore alla temperatura dell’acqua all’interno dell’impianto, è possibile avere un totale o parziale raffreddamento dell’acqua, grazie al calore rilasciato a causa dello scambio termico nelle serpentine di raffreddamento dell’acqua. Maggiore è la differenza di temperatura tra l’acqua circolante e l’aria esterna, migliore sarà la performance del sistema. GHA FC è disponibile in LN (Low Noise) o LLN (Low Low Noise) per l’installazione in locali tecnici in cui i livelli sonori devono essere tenuti al minimo.

The units of the GHH series are assembled on a strong self-supporting metal screwed and welded structure, painted with epoxy powder with anti-rust coating for outdoor installation. All units are supplied completely wired and ready to be connected to the user’s plant. Prior to delivery every machine is submitted to a performance test, with intervention tests of all the safety systems and components installed. Each unit is available with low-speed fans and compressor sound insulation kit (Low Noise LN version or Super Low Noise LLN) for installation in areas where sound levels must be kept to a minimum.

Le unità della serie GHH sono montate su una struttura metallica autoportante, verniciata con polveri epossidiche opportunamente trattate per installazione esterna. Tutte le unità sono fornite completamente cablate e pronte per essere collegate all’impianto dell’utente. Prima della consegna, ogni macchina viene sottoposta a un test delle prestazioni secondo le più severe norme in vigore, con prove di intervento di tutti i sistemi di sicurezza e componenti installati. Ogni unità è disponibile con ventola a bassa velocità e kit di isolamento acustico sul compressore (Low Noise versione LN o Super Low Noise LLN) per l’installazione in aree in cui l’emissione di rumore deve essere estremamente limitata.

General Description


The units of the GSA series are assembled on a strong self-supporting metal screwed and welded structure, painted with epoxy powder with anti-rust coating for outdoor installation. All units are supplied completely wired and ready to be connected to the user’s plant. Prior to delivery every machine is submitted to a performance test, with intervention tests of all the safety systems and components installed. Each unit is available with low-speed fans and compressor sound insulation kit (Low Noise LN version or Super Low Noise LLN) for installation in areas where sound levels must be kept to a minimum.

Le unità della serie GSA sono montate su una struttura metallica autoportante, verniciata con polveri epossidiche opportunamente trattate per installazione esterna. Tutte le unità sono fornite completamente cablate e pronte per essere collegate all’impianto dell’utente. Prima della consegna, ogni macchina viene sottoposta a un test delle prestazioni secondo le più severe norme in vigore, con prove di intervento di tutti i sistemi di sicurezza e componenti installati. Ogni unità è disponibile con ventola a bassa velocità e kit di isolamento acustico sul compressore (Low Noise versione LN o Super Low Noise LLN) per l’installazione in aree in cui l’emissione di rumore deve essere estremamente limitata.

General Description


The units of the GSE series are assembled on a strong self-supporting metal screwed and welded structure, painted with epoxy powder with anti-rust coating for outdoor installation. All units are supplied completely wired and ready to be connected to the user’s plant. Prior to delivery every machine is submit-ted to a performance test, with intervention tests of all the safety systems and components installed. Each unit is available with low-speed fans and compressor sound insulation kit (Low Noise LN version or Super Low Noise LLN) for installation in areas where noise emission must be kept to a minimum.

Le unità della serie GSE sono montate su una struttura metallica autoportante, verniciata con polveri epossidiche opportunamente trattate per installazione esterna. Tutte le unità sono fornite completamente cablate e pronte per essere collegate all’impianto dell’utente. Prima della consegna, ogni macchina viene sottoposta a un test delle prestazioni secondo le più severe norme in vigore, con prove di intervento di tutti i sistemi di sicurezza e componenti installati. Ogni unità è disponibile con ventola a bassa velocità e kit di isolamento acustico sul compressore (Low Noise versione LN o Super Low Noise LLN) per l’installazione in aree in cui l’emissione di rumore deve essere estremamente limitata.
