The Monsignor Joseph Dunne Lifetime Award for Advocacy is given in recognition of career dedication to improving the lives of problem gamblers and their families through advocacy, research, training, or the promotion of public awareness. The Advocacy Award is only bestowed in exceptional times and circumstances to individuals who exemplify at least twenty years of advocacy on behalf of problem gamblers.

Don Feeney
An advisor to the Governor of Minnesota, Don began working for the Minnesota State Lottery and rose to Director of Research and Planning and became the leading lottery advocate for responsible gaming. He served on the NCPG Board of Directors for 13 years, including as President. He was instrumental in launching Minnesota’s Northstar Problem Gambling Alliance affiliate and continues to serve on the Northstar Board. Through his calm, measured approach Don was able to literally move an entire industry forward.

FY 2018 Contracted Activities Work Plan
• Serve as the Minnesota Affiliate
• Maintain and use communications channels for regular awareness (website, e:news, print news, social media)
• Older Adult mailing and outreach campaign with advertising support
• Provide consultant support to Lao Assistance Center to develop culturally specific assistance for SE Asian community
• Fiscal Audit of 2017 finances
• Holiday awareness campaign with MN Lottery on Lottery tickets as gifts. December
• New target audience education campaign January – June 2018 (Vets)
• MN Conference on Problem Gambling March 8-9 Earle Brown Heritage Center
• Problem Gambling Awareness Month March 2018
• Complete planning for first half FY 19 target audience campaign (tentative/Corrections)
• Pursue relationship with casino management regarding responsible gaming support and create plan to guide this strategy in future years
• Recruit, hire and train a new Executive Director by June 30, 2018
