President’s Report by Peter McCarthy

Dear friends,

I hope you all had a pleasant Easter, and were able to enjoy some down time with family and friends.

At this point in time we are mindful of club members who are unwell, especially Helen Oliver and Rosanne Gager. I’m sure they will receive lots of TLC from Maurie (Helen) and John (Rosanne) and their respective families.

Our April club run was a scenic tour of Tamborine Mountain. It was encouraging to see some new face join us for the run. With such a high proportion of utes in our convoy up the mountain, the casual observer could have been forgiven for thinking that we were en route to the Deniliquin Ute Muster! Our early Holdens added a touch of nostalgia to the eclectic mix of convertibles making the most of a magic Autumn day on the mountain.

An added bonus was the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the many ‘hipsters’ as we strolled through Gallery Walk. I’ve never seen so many ‘man buns’ in all my life!

A big shout out to Peter and Noelene Whalley for organizing a great tour of their neck of the woods (see Peter’s report inside). Thanks Peter and Noelene.

Our next club run will be to Cameron Park, Ipswich on Sunday 19th May for National Motoring Heritage Day (8 trophies will be awarded on the day).

Plans are well underway for our Holden Out For A Cure- All Holden Day at Birkdale on Sunday 24th November. It promises to be a great day for all Holden devotees. Let’s all play our part, and promote the event wherever we can, to enable it to live up to expectations.

Until next month, keep Holden on!

A pharmacist walks into his chemist shop to find a bloke leaning against the wall with a look of agony on his face. “What’s wrong with him?” he asks the work experience boy. “He came in for some cough syrup,” the work experience boy explains. “But I couldn’t find any, so I sold him a bottle of laxatives instead!” “What!” the pharmacist says horrified. “You can’t treat a cough with laxatives!” “I don’t know about that,” replied the young work experience boy. “Take a look at him. He’s not game to cough!” The meaning of Life On the first day, God created the dog and said: “Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.” The dog said: “That’s a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I’ll give you back the other ten?”

So God agreed. On the second day, God created the monkey and said: “Entertain people, do trick and make them laugh. For this, I’ll give you a twenty-year life span.” The monkey said: “Monkey tricks for twenty years? That’s a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?” And God agreed. On the third day, God created the cow and said: “You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer’s family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years.” The cow said: “That’s kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years.. How about twenty and I’ll give back the other forty?” And God agreed again. On the fourth day, God created humans and said: “Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I will give you twenty years.” But the human said: “Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty years, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?” “Okay”, said God, “You asked for it.” So that’s why for our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone. Life has now been explained to you. There is no need to thank me for this valuable information. I’m doing it as a public service. Meeting closed: Meeting closed at 8:30pm. Next meeting is on 13th May

Sunday 28th April Run A Tour of Tamborine Mountain.

By Peter Whalley

A sunny fine day greeted all who met at the Shell Service Station at Yatala for the April Run.

It seemed to be a collection of utes with 4 – FJ and 1 – FX ute and President Pete in his Brumby Ute as well as 2 – FX Sedans and 2 FJ Sedans and a couple of daily drivers set off on a shorter than normal for me run up to Tamborine Mountain.

The first stop was the Beacon Road Lookout over Tamborine Village towards Ipswich. However it was a hazy day so views of the distant ranges were limited.

We then drove along the Main Western Road to the Hang Gliders Lookout with views over Bidadabba and the Beaudesert Valley.

A loop of the southern end of Tamborine Mountain ended with morning tea at Staffsmith Park.

From morning tea we moved on to the Gallery Walk Carpark where most set off to the shops and tourist attractions of the Gallery Walk.

Lunch was at Clancy’s Irish Pub and we all enjoyed the food and drinks. A popular choice was the Guinness Steak Pie which is a Clancy’s special.

We hope everyone enjoyed the Tour of Tamborine Mountain. One benefit for Noelene and I was the short run home.
