All - RJ has done a new fusebox FAQ, due to the links on the old one not working any more.

I'm sure we all appreciate his efforts and would like to tell him, but please, no chat on this thread, but if anyone has any relevant feedback on the topic, or more to contribute, please do.

I've left it as a sticky for now, so more folks can see it.

...and on behalf of everyone, Thanks RJ!!

look at the pictures of the fuseboxes, they're completely different

you'll have to splice CE1 plugs onto the CE2 ABF wiring loom, something that is pretty straight forwardbut if you dont fancy it i can make you a conversion loom. main thing with this conversion is i add a VWrelay holder above the fusebox for the ECU relay, since the CE1 ECU relay wiring goes to plug R which isonly found on digifant 8v mk2.

Yea, pretty different. But i actually moved digifant 2 from audi 80 -94 to my PL mk2 and made it workwithout any problems! I cant really see why the central makes difference if you change the injectiontype, isnt the injection wiring almost standalone from the central?

Sorry if its a dumb question!

theres no reason why you cant make it work, converting an abf loom to CE1 is pretty simple. as yousay most of the ecu wiring is all self contained in the engine bay, there are only 5 or so wires to thefusebox direct.

you really dont want to try to bodge mk2 digi managment onto an abf if thats what you meant, theproper abf management is far, far better

    Yea, thanks for confirming that!

About the digifant, before the abf conversion I had a pl engine, I replaced the ke-jet with digifant 2.Later i bought an mk3 16v donor car and stripped almost everything from it (even the central). But Ithought it would be better if I kept the ce1.

As Im mooving most from the mk3 then the digifant 3 from abf comes with!

right thats fine then, yeah there is no reason to convert to the CE2 system the CE1 fusebox can copewith it fine. just as i say normally i put the ecu relay above the fusebox since the CE1 fusebox needsplug R to power up and get the feed from the ECU relay socket. plus it doesnt have the extra feed that

the ABF ecu relay uses, though this wire can just be put to ignition live.

here is an abf diagram if you need it, you'll see the 2 ecu relay feeds i mean:http://vwtech.no-ip.info/downloads/g3abfecu.pdf

in comparison the CE1 digifant showing R plug and only 1 ecu relay feed:https://reader010.{domain}/reader010/html5/0606/5b176874a21e0/5b17688a7daf8.jpg

Just had to say thanks very much for posting this up. Have a CE2 fusebox in my 16v and had self inflicted wiring issues which I've now been able to resolve. Had started doing my own spreadsheet of colours/pins/functions when I came across this - life and time saver. Cheers.

Recently did a VR-swap into a 1.4 Mk3 (but this will equally apply to Mk2s), and came across a smallwiring anomaly.

The engine would crank, but wouldn`t fire. No power to the coil-pack...

    g , p p

Consulted here, the Bentley manual, and a few other sources, and they all say that the 12v feed comesfrom G1 pin 4 (black wire)

On the loom we had pin 4 was empty...but the black wire was there with it`s own single pin connector, but nowhere for it to plug in.

Spliced across from H1 pin 4 (ignition switch), and it fires and runs properly.

Was properly confused as to why this wiring was different to what every source said it should be, but itturns out (for some odd reason) that if the donor car/loom has Climatronic A/C the ignition coil feedcomes from the A/C loom rather than direct from fusebox.

It`s simply linked through from either Q or N, but why it would be this way, and not just go into G1 (andthe wire runs down the G1 loom right to the plug, but veers off...) I have no idea!

When another friend of mine was looking to convert his Highline to Climatronic A/C he sourcedeverything, bar one apparently important piece of loom. We could never work out why it was soimportant, because as far as we could find out there was only one wire on a single connector that wasdifferent...this was obviously it!
