In the world of computers, networking is

the practice of linking two or more

computing devices together for the

purpose of sharing data.

To ensure secure operations of

information systems and thus

safeguard assets and the data stored

in these systems, and to ensure thatapplications achieve their objectives

in an efficient manner, an

organization needs to institute a setof policies, procedures, and

technological measures, collectively

called controls.

These controls apply to the whole of an

organization's IS activity and to ones

specific to a given application. They can be

broken into General control and

Application respectively.

General controls cover all the systems of

an organization or one of its subunits.

An example from the view of a network

administrator is using a tool called active

directory for user logging on a networked

computer system, where users can access a

server(s) for relevant files and services

shared over the network.

UTech is a prime example of this kind of

management control, effective in how

students and staff gain access to theinformation on the schools network

where the logging information and

general activity can be monitored by

network managers.

Concurrent Controlling. This type of controlling

involves the regulation of ongoing activities that are part

of a transformation process to ensure that they conform

to organizational standards, and also to ensure that

employee work activities produce the correct work

results. So in the process of Network Management,

concurrent controlling basically places more emphasis

on monitoring usage and network activity to ensure

consistency in the performance ofthe network.

Another instance of controlling in the area

of Information Technology is the use of the

restricted level access Basically this is just

a measure put in place to ensure thatemployees, whether they are differentiated

by department, qualification level or

position in the organization (for e.g. a

manager or operations supervisor), is onlygranted access to certain aspects, features

and user rights of the system.

If restriction measures arent put in

place, then employees could possibly

change their pay grade or even seek

to find out what their manager,

supervisor or even fellow co-workers

salary is like.

as this is highly confidential and

consequences can be severe if information

such as this can be easily accessed byanyone. So controlling is clearly a critical

component for the company in this instance in

order to ensure that its operations can becarried out effectively without the possibility of

confidentiality breaches and fraud.

been used to refer to a quantity surveyorworking for the client side in private

practice, and the term quantity surveyor

is used to refer to a quantity surveyor

working for a contracting organisation.
