FUNCTIONS OF EACH PART OF THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

BY: jenil urianza-moises

OBJECTIVES:Explain the function of the circulatory systemDescribe the function of each part of the circulatory system

Our CIRCULATORY SYSTEM is the transport system of the body. It is an intricate network of long, slender branches originating from the heart and running through the different parts of the body.

The HEART pumps and moves blood through the body

RIGHT ATRIUM receives deoxygenated blood

RIGHT VENTRICLE pumps blood to the lungs

LEFT ATRIUM receives oxygenated blood

BLOOD is the transport system

RED BLOOD CELL (Erythrocytes) deliver oxygen to the cells

WHITE BLOOD CELLS (leukocytes) fight germs that enter the body

PLATELETS (thrombocytes) are used in blood clotting

PLASMA is where blood cells are suspended

BLOOD VESSELS are tubes that carry blood to and from the heart

ARTERIES carry blood that contains nutrients and oxygen from the heart to the different parts of the body

VEINS carry blood back to the heart.CAPILLARIES carry oxygen and nutrients to the cells

ACTIVITYFill in the blanks with the correct answer.

1. The movement of blood as it distributes food to the body is called ______________.2. The primary function of the _____________ corpuscle is to carry oxygen to the cells of the body.3. The ______________ makes the blood red.4. The ______________ carries the digested food through

all parts of the body.5. Our body needs ______________ to make us grow and keep us healthy.6. The ______________ corpuscle fight bacteria and germs that enter our body.7. The ______________ carry blood towards the heart.8. The ______________ carry blood away from the heart.9. The ______________ make the blood clot and stop bleeding in wounds.10. The heart is about the size of a _______________.

EVALUATIONDescribe the functions of these parts of the circulatory system. 1. blood vessel2. heart3. bloodB. What if the different parts of the circulatory system do not function properly?C. Explain the functions of the circulatory system.
