Tulip Travel is a vacation and travel tour company providing

travel opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental

disabilities since 1998. We believe that all individuals can benefit

About the OwnersTulip Travel, Inc. is owned and operated by Leo de Ruijter and John Hamel. Both have traveled extensively in the United States and abroad and combined have over ___ years of professional work experience in the developmental disability field. Over the years, they have planned and organized hundreds of trips for persons with developmental disabilities in the United States.

Leo de Ruijter grew up in a small town, Asperen, in central Holland. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Delta College, The Netherlands. He has also completed course work towards a Master’s degree at Long Island University. Leo has managed several community residential homes in Syracuse, NY for the Onon daga County Association for Onondaga ARC.

John Hamel is a native of Syracuse, New York and holds a Bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York in Recreation Management. John has developed and implemented community-based recreation and leisure programs for both the Oswego and Onondaga County for Retarded Citizens. John has also served for several years as a member of the New York State Fair access advisory committee and the NYSARC recreation committee.

Our Travel Coordinator is Christine Kiely. Chris’ outgoing personality, combined with her years of experience in the field, makes her a favorite with our travelers. Medication PoliciesTulip Travel, Inc. is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable vacation for our guests. Accord-ingly, we feel that a safe and uniform medication program is necessary to ensure the well-being of our vacationers. Our policy is to hand our travelers their medications that have been pre-dis-pensed by their family, pharmacist, or program, and all travelers are well supervised in the administration of their own medications.

Option 1: Provider, agency, or referring party packages medications according to agency poli-cies and procedures.

Option 2: Ask your local pharmacy to pre-package medication for the duration of your trip plus one extra day (in case of delay, contamination, etc).

Option 3: Travelers are independent in their medication adminis-tration and will manage their own medication during the trip. When packing medication for your trip we ask you to label all medication clearly on bottle(s) and/or blister pack with time of medication (AM, PM, HS, etc); make sure medi-cation on administration sheet match medications sent (don’t mix generic names and brand names of medica-tions). Please pack oral rinse and topicals separate from other medications; if you take oral rinse please consider travel size bottles. Do not pack medication in your suitcase.

Swimming PolicyTulip Travel will not allow their customers to utilize a hotel and/or resort pool, unless the facility has a certified lifeguard on duty; cus-tomers will only be allowed to swim at those times. In addition, customers with a history of seizures must bring their own Personal Floating Device (PFD).

Travel EscortsOur travel escorts are prepared to lead a fun-filled and safe vacation. They all have experience working with the developmentally disabled and special needs traveler. They will assist travelers with their individual needs and help provide an enjoyable and safe vaca-tion. Assistance includes general supervision, budgeting money, help with medications, and guiding the tour. Generally, we provide a 1 to 4 escort to traveler ratio.

Traveler IdentificationSince we often travel outside of the country and utilize air travel it is important for all of our travelers to have proper personal iden-tification. If a traveler does not have proper government-issued identification accepted by authorities, the traveler will not be allowed to travel and will not receive a refund. Other governments and authorities impose the requirements for identification. Whether a traveler is allowed on a plane or into another country is not a decision made by Tulip Travel, Inc. Please keep the following in mind:• Travel outside of the United States and

Canada: Passport• Cruises to the Bahamas and the Carribean:

United States citizens on cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S. can use an original government-issued picture ID (i.e. driver’s license) AND an original gov-ernment-issued birth certificate or original Naturalization Certificate. Tulip Travel rec-ommends passports for all travelers signing up for a cruise vacation.

Spaces fill quickly so make your reservation early!

Deposits, Refunds & CancellationsAll over-the-road trips on buses and vans require a deposit of $225; all air travel vacations require a $450 trip deposit. Whether you register for a trip by phone, mail, website, or in person, such registration authorizes us to purchase any train, air, cruise, or admission tickets or packages. If you decide to cancel the trip you must notify us at least 31 days prior to the trip departure date. We will refund your money (less a $50.00 cancellation fee) and any pre-purchased portion of the vacation package such as airline tickets, cruise packages, admission tickets, and hotel accommodations. Cancellations received between 15-30 days will receive a refund less $100.00 and any pre-purchased portion of the vacation. Trips cancelled 14 days or closer to the departure date are non-refundable. No refund is offered if a traveler is refused boarding due to lack of proper identification (see traveler identification on page 4). Cruise vacations require a $1,000 trip deposit and are not refundable! “Late shows” and “no shows” are non-refundable.
