SMS group delivers firstfully automated 25-MNclosed-die forging presswith automatic walkingbeam to PARSAN inTurkey

AMP 2500, Turkey’s first fully automated 25-MN closed-dieforging press will be delivered to PARSAN by SMS group.

Turkish manufacturer of high-quality forged products,PARSAN Makina Parçalar? Sanayii A.?. in Pendik-Istanbul, Turkey, has commissioned SMS group tosupply a fully automated closed-die forging press. Thenew press of the type AMP 2500 will feature a pressingforce of 25 MN and be capable of forging up to fivemillion parts per year.

Among other things the closed-die forging plant will beused to produce pistons and flanged hubs weighing upto four kilograms in up to five forming operations.

PARSAN opted for SMS group as system supplier dueto its established reputation and experience as asupplier of fully automated manufacturing lines from asingle source. Key factors for awarding the contract toSMS group were the technical advice providedthroughout of the project, the fact that SMS groupmanufactures the equipment in-house and the ability toprovide the entire process technology.

The new closed-die forging press of the type AMP 2500will be equipped with an automatic electrically drivenwalking beam, mechanically coupled and retractable diespraying system, programmable ejectors as well as dieholder with quick die-change system. One specialfeature is the automatic electric walking beam type EHAof SMS group comprising four individual housings withthe drive fastened to the outside of the press frame,thus ensuring that contamination from scale and dirt isprevented. The automatic system guarantees a finelybalanced and smooth motion. To achieve this, EHAfeatures a separate drive consisting of servo motorswith dedicated gearing for each axis. The three axes ofmotion of the automatic electric walking beam aretransport step, lifting/lowering and opening/closing.Travel, speed, acceleration and deceleration of theindividual servo axes are automatically synchronized.The EHA walking beam system provides a very shortcycle time whilst minimizing any shock loads on themechanical elements by the application of optimizedacceleration and deceleration curves during eachmovement. Simultaneously, the transfer sequence ofthe EHA is maximized for efficiency by constantmonitoring of the position of the press ram. The pressstroke is triggered by the automatic walking beam.

Another special feature of the press is the pivotablespray manipulator type SE located on the back of thepress. This arrangement means the die holder with diesis freely accessible from the front. The spraymanipulator SE is controlled in accordance with the rammovements by mechanical coupling thus ensuring theposition of the system corresponds precisely at all timesto the position of the ram and walking beam. Thespraying times for individual processes are individuallyprogrammable. For retrofitting measures andmaintenance work the manipulator can also be swiveledout of the press area.

The new 25-MN closed die forging press will beinstalled in the new PARSAN Dilovasi? factory.
