The  Fuller  Center  for  Housing’s  mission  statement  states  that:  The  Fuller  Center  for  Housing,  faith-­‐driven  and  Christ-­‐centered,  promotes  collabora=ve  and  

innova=ve  partnerships  with  individuals  and  organiza=ons  in  an  unrelen=ng  quest  to  provide  adequate  shelter  for  all  people  in  need  worldwide.    

The  Fuller  Center  is  founded  on  the  principles  that:  We  are  part  of  a  God  movement,  and  movements  don’t  just  stop.  We  have  been  called  to  this  housing  ministry;  we  didn’t  just  stumble  into  it.  We  are  unashamedly  ChrisGan,  

and  enthusiasGcally  ecumenical.  We  aren’t  a  church  but  we  are  servant  of  the  Church.  We  are  faith  driven,  knowing  that  aIer  we’ve  done  all  we  can  do  the  Lord  will  help  finish  the  job—something  that  requires  us  to  

stretch  beyond  our  raGonal  reach.  We  are  a  grassroots  ministry,  recognizing  that  the  real    work  happens  on  the  ground  in  communiGes  around  the  world  through  our  covenant  partners,  so  a  large,  overseeing  bureaucracy  isn’t  need.  And  lastly,  we  try  to  follow  the  teachings  of  the  Bible  and  believe  that  it  says  that  we  shouldn’t  

change  interest  of  the  poor,  so  we  don’t.  Government  has  a  role  in  our  work  in  helping  set  stage,  but  that  we  shouldn’t  look  to  it  as  a  means  to  fund  the  building  of  a  home.

Millard  Fuller  was  born  on  January  3,  1935  in  the  small  town  of  LaneX,  Alabama.  Millard  grew  up  to  become  the  ulGmate  philanthropist;  he    was  the  founder  of  both  Habitat  for  Humanity  InternaGonal  and  the  Fuller  Center  for  Housing.  In  1976,  Habitat  was  founded  and  during  his  29-­‐year  leadership,  over  200,000  homes  were  built  with  projects  in  100  countries.  In  April  of  2005,  Millard  and  his  wife,  Linda,  founded  the  Fuller  Center  for  Housing.    

Millard  and  Linda  married  in  1959  and  during  their  50  years  of  marriage,  they  were  honored  by  presidents,  universiGes  and  civic  organizaGons.  Millard  help  more  than  50  honorary  doctorate  degrees  for  his  leadership  and  was  also  awarded  with  the  PresidenGal  Medal  of  Freedom.  Millard  passed  a  year  ago  on  February  3,  2009,  but  his  legacy  conGnues  through  his  sermons,  his  legacy  and  through  the  Fuller  Center  for  Housing.    

The  History  Millard  Fuller  majored  in  economics  at  Auburn  University  and  received  his  law  degree  from  the  University  of  Alabama.  Millard  was  a  successful  businessman  and  became  a  millionaire  by  the  Gme  he  was  29-­‐years-­‐old.  In  1968,  the  Fuller’s  gave  up  their  wealth  and  moved  to  Koinonia  Farm  in  southwest  Georgia.  Together,  Millard  and  Clarence  Jordan  formed  Partnership  Housing,  which  is  now  known  as  Habitat  for  Humanity.  

 In  2005,  the  Fuller  Center  for  Housing  was  founded  aIer  Millard  and  Linda  Fuller  leI  Habitat  for  Humanity.  The  Fuller  Center  is  currently  building  and  renovaGng  home  in  17  countries  and  in  57  communiGes  in  the  United  States.  The  Fuller  Center’s  working  mission  is  to  help  more  than  1  billion  people  worldwide  who  live  in  poverty  housing.  Millard’s  commitment  and  legacy  to  eliminate  poverty  housing  conGnues  today  though  the  “hearts  and  hands  of  thousands  of  volunteers  who  seem  to  build  a  beXer  world,  one  house  at  a  Gme.”    AIer  Millard’s  unexpected  death  in  February  2009,  David  Snell  took  over  at  the  president  of  the  Fuller  Center  for  Housing.

The  Fuller  Center  for  Housing  has  many  opportuniGes  for  individuals  to  get  involved.    • The  Fuller  Center  has  54  covenant  partners  in  26  U.S.  states.  • The  Fuller  Center  has  17  internaGonal  covenant  partners  in  Armenia,  Australia,  the  Cook  Islands,  the  DemocraGc  People’s  Republic  of  Korea,  the  DemocraGc  Republic  of  the  Congo,  El  Salvador,  Ghana,  HaiG,  India,  Nepal,  The  Netherlands,  Nigeria,  Peru,  Philippines,  Republic  of  Congo,  Sierra  Leone  and  Sri  Lanka.    • The  Fuller  Center  also  has  Disaster  ReBuilders,  Global  Builders,  Student  Builders  and  RV  Builders.    • The  Fuller  Center  also  has  special  projects  that  include:  Millard  Fuller  Legacy  Builds,  Earth  Day  and  the  Fuller  Center  for  Housing  Bike  Adventure.

“I  Have  a  Dream”  –MLK  Jr.  As  Millard  Fuller  used  to  say:  “  The  future  of  this  movement  lies  with  the  young  people.”  My  dream  started  when  my  father  signed  on  to  become  the  president  of  the  Tallahassee  covenant  partner  with  the  Fuller  Center  for  Housing.  His  commitment  to  our  community  inspired  me  and  wished  that  students  at  Florida  State  University  had  the  chance  to  give  back,  as  well.  Students  Builders  is  a  faith-­‐bases,  student-­‐led  service  organizaGon  that  seeks  to  build  each  other  up  in  Christ,  build  support,  build  homes  and  build  awareness.  The  student  builders  covenant  partner  at  Florida  State  University  started  out  with  seven  members  and  now  has  grown  into  an  organizaGon  with  over  75  acGve  members.  In  my  Gme  as  president  and  founder,  we  renovated  over  eight  houses.  Millard’s  legacy  conGnues  to  inspire  me  to  be  a  beXer  person  and  conGnue  my  love  for  serving  my  community  and  eliminaGng  poverty  housing.
